2. What to Eat

The market was absolutely buzzing with people, and a mouthwatering array of treats
like fruit mochi, dakgangjeong (sweet and sour fried chicken), omegi tteok (Jeju rice cakes), pajeon (savory pancakes), and hotteok (sweet pancakes)
were lined up everywhere, tempting visitors!

Before diving into a full exploration of the market, I made sure to fuel up
with a delicious meal at Nammaene Wang Galchi (남매네 왕 갈치).
They serve fantastic braised hairtail, grilled hairtail, and even have kids' menus.
Plus, their single-person set meals make it an excellent choice for solo travelers!
With great value and satisfying portions, I left feeling full and ready
to embark on my exciting market tour.

Seogwipo Olle Market boasts numerous specialty Jeju foods that are quite rare to find in other markets!
Among them, the Black Pork Roll (흑돼지말이) particularly caught my attention.
This dish features grilled Jeju black pork rolled up like gimbap.
It looked so thick and hearty, I bet just one would be incredibly filling!

At Grandma's Tteokjip (할머니 떡집), they were selling incredible fruit mochi.
The visuals alone were absolutely irresistible! 👀
With the cross-sections cut, you could see at a glance just how thin the mochi skin was
and how incredibly plump and generous the fruit filling was inside.

At Ujeong Hoe Center (우정 회 센터), you can grab fresh sashimi to go!
They offer a variety including sea bream, flounder, octopus, mantis shrimp, salmon, and grilled abalone, just to name a few.
The prices are very reasonable too, making it a perfect spot for a delicious takeaway!

And don't miss out on the refreshing tangerine juice and slushies available throughout the market!
They're a must-try for a taste of Jeju's famous tangerines!

Beyond these delights, the rich scent of butter also wafts from...
There were also large butter-grilled squid,
and, of course, a market wouldn't be complete without a variety of snack bars!
3. Things to See

At Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market (서귀포 매일 올레시장) in Jeju Island (제주도),
besides all the delicious food, there are also many souvenir shops, clothing stores, and more.
Among them, I stopped by a souvenir shop called Odangbonggatjyeo (오당봉갔져),
where they had charming accessories and Jeju souvenirs,
and I spent quite a while browsing all the different items!

Dol Hareubang (돌하르방) eating Gogi Guksu,
Dol Hareubang inside a tangerine box,
Dol Hareubang riding a dolphin or surfing,
Dol Hareubang fishing, and more!
There were keychains depicting Dol Hareubang in various poses and activities from Jeju,
making them perfect gifts for friends and family.

You could also find soju glasses and water cups printed with Jeju's unique regional characteristics,
priced affordably at ₩3,000-₩4,000 (~$2-~$3),
making them great souvenirs from your Jeju trip!

Keychains featuring tangerines, dolphins, flowers, Haenyeo (해녀), alpacas, and more,
along with practical items like nail clippers and mirrors that are useful in everyday life,
all adorned with characters that remind you of Jeju Island,
made me want to buy everything!
By the way, they also have I❤️JEJU t-shirts here!

The magnets and accessories were also
not tacky at all, but rather simple and pretty,
making me almost fill my basket with everything I saw.

With a wide array of delicious foods
and a colorful variety of unique souvenirs,
Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market in Jeju Island is truly a gem.
They even operate a night market in the evenings,
so if you're traveling to Seogwipo, make sure to stop by!
