2. The Menu

✔ Braised Hairtail Stew (Galchi Jorim): ~$13
✔ Grilled Hairtail (Galchi Gui): ~$13
✔ Dombe Gogi (Boiled Pork): ~$13
✔ Kids Menu: ~$4
-
As expected from a top Jeju hairtail restaurant, the braised stew and grilled fish are the signature dishes. They also offer a kids' menu, making it a great choice for families dining with children.
Other options include grilled mackerel (godeungeo gui) and spicy fermented hairtail guts (galchi sokjeot).

While many Jeju hairtail restaurants typically serve portions for 2-3 people, Nammaene Wanggalchi uniquely offers single-serving portions. This makes it a perfect spot for solo travelers to enjoy an authentic meal without ordering too much, and also great for groups to each pick their preferred dish!
3. Seogwipo's Hairtail Gem: The Taste Test!

Braised Hairtail Stew (Galchi Jorim): ~$13
Served with refreshing cucumber cold soup, a zesty salad, flavorful bulgogi, and other delightful side dishes, alongside the star of the show – the braised hairtail stew!
Everything was presented neatly and elegantly on a single tray.

The pot contained a generous three long pieces of hairtail, simmering in the rich sauce.
The savory sauce deeply penetrates the flaky hairtail flesh, delivering a delightful kick of spice followed by an irresistible umami explosion.

The tender hairtail meat, paired with a spoonful of rice, disappeared in no time!
It was so incredibly satisfying and easy to eat.

All the accompanying side dishes were equally delicious, especially the bulgogi, which was wonderfully sweet and savory – I found myself reaching for it as much as the hairtail stew!

Steamed cabbage leaves are also served as a side. Layer some rice and hairtail on a leaf, add a dab of their special sauce, and enjoy the harmonious blend of the cabbage's gentle sweetness and crunch with the savory fish. It's truly a game-changer!

The stew's incredible sauce isn't just for the fish; the potatoes and vegetables also soak up all that deliciousness, making them absolute 'rice thieves'!
I devoured every last bit of the stew and its ingredients – the sauce was so perfectly seasoned, I'm already craving another visit!

Grilled Hairtail (Galchi Gui): ~$13
My travel companion ordered the grilled hairtail, and we shared both dishes. The grilled version also came with three substantial, long pieces of hairtail.
The skin was perfectly golden and crispy, making it look incredibly appetizing.

The grilled hairtail offered a perfectly balanced umami flavor that wasn't overly salty, pairing wonderfully with rice.
Unlike the saucy stew, the grilled version allowed the natural, delicate flavor of the hairtail to shine through, which I really appreciated.

If you love a rich, savory kick, go for the Braised Hairtail. If you prefer a lighter, more delicate flavor, the Grilled Hairtail is your perfect choice!

Nammaene Wanggalchi in Seogwipo Olle Market is truly a hairtail fish paradise.
With a variety of delicious side dishes and generous portions of plump hairtail,
it offers a hearty and satisfying meal. The single-serving option is a huge plus for solo travelers, making it even more appealing.
If you're searching for the best braised hairtail in Jeju, I highly recommend Nammaene Wanggalchi – especially at just ~$13, it offers fantastic value!
