If you are planning a trip to Jeju Island, you are probably wondering what unique souvenirs to bring back for your friends, family, or let's be honest, yourself! While the famous "Maeum Sand" is easily found at Jeju Airport, there is a new, much more exclusive treat that everyone is talking about: the Mongsaengi Sand.
But before you head out to grab a box, there is some important pricing news you need to know. Between late 2024 and 2025, the price of Mongsaengi Sand jumped from ~$10 to ~$12—a solid ~$1 increase. As someone who visits Jeju every summer, I always make sure to bring home a few boxes of these delicious treats. Since the price has gone up, I've put together this guide to help you decide if it's still worth it, along with some great insider tips!
01. Why is Mongsaengi Sand the Ultimate Jeju Souvenir?
When it comes to must-buy Jeju treats, Maeum Sand and Mongsaengi Sand are the reigning champions. However, while you can easily reserve Maeum Sand at the airport, Mongsaengi Sand can only be purchased at the Paris Baguette in Jeju Donghwa Village. This extreme exclusivity is exactly what makes it so special!

Plus, Jeju Donghwa Village has recently exploded as one of the island's absolute hot spots. It's a dream destination for Studio Ghibli fans, as the official Totoro-themed 'Dongguri Forest' and Kiki-themed 'Koriko Cafe' are located right next door. It makes for the perfect afternoon itinerary!

Snap a picture with Totoro, explore the beautiful village, and then pop into Paris Baguette to secure your Mongsaengi Sand. It's a flawless day trip!
02. The Price Breakdown: How Much Does It Cost Now?
Let's talk numbers. The price of Mongsaengi Sand has seen a noticeable increase over the past couple of years.
Back in December 2024, a box cost ~$10. However, starting in April 2025, the price was raised to ~$12.

I bought my first box at ~$10, so when I returned in 2025, I was definitely hit with a bit of sticker shock. While Paris Baguette attributes the hike to rising ingredient and logistics costs, it definitely feels a bit heavy on the wallet when you're buying multiple boxes as gifts.
03. Shelf Life, Storage Tips, and Flavor Review

Each box contains 10 individually wrapped sand cookies. Because they are made fresh without artificial preservatives, their shelf life is quite short—only about 4 to 5 days.
We usually buy two or three boxes to share with family and friends immediately upon returning home. They disappear so fast that the short expiration date is rarely an issue!

While keeping them in a cool, shaded spot at room temperature is fine, I highly recommend storing them in the refrigerator and eating them cold! It makes the filling firm up beautifully and tastes incredibly refreshing.
My absolute favorite flavor is the Chocolate Matcha—the balance of deep, slightly bitter matcha and sweet chocolate is pure heaven.

Once you are done shopping, make sure to experience the Mongsaengi Slow Postbox inside the store! It was incredibly hot during our visit, so we cooled down with some bingsu (Korean shaved ice), colored our own cute Mongsaengi postcards, and dropped them in the slow postbox. It's completely free, and our postcards arrived at our home about 6 months later—such a fun, nostalgic surprise!

04. Will the Price Rise Again in 2026? Plus, Saving Tips!
With prices rising everywhere in 2026, we all hope the current price stays put, but it is hard to say for sure. Even though my husband thinks they are a bit pricey, we still can't resist buying them!

Here is a crucial tip to save some money: make sure to use your T-Membership discount! If you have a Korean telecom plan (or are traveling with a friend who does), you can get a handy discount at Paris Baguette. Every little bit helps!
Between exploring the magical Ghibli world at Donghwa Village and treating yourself to these exclusive cookies, it's an experience you shouldn't miss. Grab some before the prices rise again!
