Jeju Island! After dreaming about it for so long, we're finally going!!
As a travel enthusiast, I'd been talking about our 2026 trip since 2025. Was I just shouting into the void? Turns out, my husband only had time off during a holiday period, which meant we had no choice but to book during peak season. Flights alone were over ~$138 per person. I even started looking for flights in April, hoping to snag a deal. There were some options for around ~$124 back then, but when you factor in accommodation, food, and rental car costs, it quickly adds up. Plus, my husband deals with traffic and driving every single day for work. The thought of him having to drive us around Jeju, sacrificing his relaxation (and me feeling guilty about it!), seemed like too much. Planning a detailed itinerary on top of that felt overwhelming.
So, I started looking into package tours. Not only did they seem like a potentially more affordable option, but more importantly, they offered a solution to my husband's driving fatigue. It felt like the perfect way to ensure he could truly relax.
I've actually been to Jeju Island twice before – once with my grandparents and once when our kids were very young. Traveling with seniors or little ones... well, you know how it goes, right? It's a special kind of busy, disguised as relaxation! (Someone has to keep track of everything!)
This will be my first time on a package tour too! I admit, I'm a little worried about whether the kids will be able to wake up early for the schedule, but I went ahead and booked it anyway, haha!
Since it's a package tour, I figured the food would be pretty standard, so I mentally let go of visiting specific restaurants or cafes I'd wanted to try. As for accommodation, even if we had planned a free-and-easy trip, I would have aimed for something budget-friendly. So, any hotel or airline is perfectly fine by me!
1. The Dates Had to Work: We needed a 4-day trip, ideally Saturday through Tuesday. Who knows when we'll get another chance, so I wanted to make the most of a 3-night, 4-day itinerary.
2. Island Hopping: I really wanted to visit one of Jeju's smaller islands like Udo, Gapado, or Marado. I hadn't been able to on my previous trips.
3. Forest Trails: I'd heard great things about Gotjawal Forest and Saryeoni Forest Path, so I hoped for a package that included a forest walk. Exploring nature sounded wonderful. These were places that came highly recommended.
4. Kid-Friendly Activities: With the children in mind, I looked for packages with attractions or experiences like foot baths or horseback riding. Luckily, most packages included either the Sky Water Show or Arirang Hon (a Taekwondo performance).
(Since these were optional activities, it was fine. I'd seen a cruise and a circus with their grandfather before, but this time, I was leaning towards the Sky Water Show. I just love watching fascinating performances, haha!
However, the package I ultimately chose had Arirang Hon as a standard inclusion. (Update: As you'll see in my later review, Arirang Hon was incredibly satisfying!))

I narrowed it down to three final options, made my decision, and booked it!

I also found a 3-night, 4-day 'no-tip, no-optional-tours' Marado package (from Young Trip?) for ~$310, but unfortunately, it didn't have Saturday departures, so I had to reluctantly rule it out.
And speaking of my research...
I discovered that Modetour's website is truly terrible! Seriously, Modetour team, you need to step up your game!
I spent ages trying to find an affordable package, practically straining my eyes, and Modetour's site almost drove me crazy. Searching for package tours was incredibly difficult. Even when I found something decent and saved it or added it to my favorites, it would ask me to log in again, and then my saved items would be gone after logging in.
It was hard to find things, and sharing them was a pain. While some options seemed good for the price, many others became much more expensive with additional fees (guide fees or optional tour costs were quite high).
I'm not sure if Jeju isn't their main focus, or if they just have higher profit margins on Jeju packages.
Anyway, since we were traveling during a holiday period, the prices were higher, so I really had to focus on finding the best value. I diligently searched for options.
Many packages started around ~$137, but with optional tours and guide fees, they would easily go up to ~$172 - ~$207. The catch was that these were usually for Tuesday-Thursday departures.
Initially, Hana Tour looked promising due to its lower price point, even though it was only 2 nights and 3 days. However, I ultimately decided against it because:
1. It didn't include an island tour.
2. A 2-night, 3-day itinerary felt too rushed with the kids (and three shopping stops in just two nights felt like a lot).
3. The late return time on the last day also seemed like a burden.
The conclusion: we decided on the Jeju Yangbujang Tour!
For just ~$138 more (for four people), we get to visit an island and enjoy an extra night. When you look into free-and-easy or package tours for Jeju, you realize that for a little more, you could almost go overseas! It makes perfect sense why people choose to visit Japan or Vietnam instead. Jeju's prices are quite high.
I'm planning to get our passports ready once we're back from this trip!
For now, even if it's just Jeju, I'm thrilled to be flying again after so long!

The author chose a package tour due to her husband's driving burden and the difficulty of planning the itinerary herself. Also, the desire to avoid the "busyness disguised as leisure" that she had experienced on previous trips with grandparents or young children was a consideration.
