1. Visiting HeeshinIhne (희신이네), a Tto Gan Jip (또간집) restaurant in Jeju (제주)

As I enjoy watching Pungja's (풍자) Tto Gan Jip (또간집) show, I've visited all the restaurants featured in the Jeju (제주) and Seogwipo (서귀포) episodes.
At the time, the restaurant selected as Seogwipo's representative was Jeju HeeshinIhne. Since then, I've visited several times and tried various dishes at Seogwipo HeeshinIhne.

Since the restaurant recently expanded and relocated to a more pleasant space, more tourists to Seogwipo have been visiting, and there always seemed to be a long wait whenever I passed by. As a local, I didn't want to stand in line, so I waited for an opportune moment and visited early, avoiding peak meal times, and had a meal with my husband without any waiting.

After the expansion and relocation, there have been changes, from the interior to the menu.
I'll give you a detailed introduction to HeeshinIhne, a culinary travel destination you can also visit for an early Jeju breakfast, including its new location, changed menu, and nearby attractions.
2. Location and Interior Design

Although it's been a beloved local restaurant in Jeju for a long time, HeeshinIhne feels unique after moving to its new spot.
It's conveniently located about a 10-minute drive from Seogwipo Healing Forest (서귀포 치유의숲), Seogwipo Olle Market (서귀포올레시장), Cheonjiyeon Falls (천지연폭포), and Saeseom Island (새섬), making it a great place to visit during your southern Jeju itinerary.
At the Catchtable machine near the entrance, a proud photo of Pungja is displayed.

The parking space in front of the store has also become much wider, so when I visited for a late Jeju Seogwipo breakfast, I was able to park and enter right away. However, on weekends or during peak meal times when many customers flock, the parking lot quickly fills up. So, I'll list the addresses of nearby free parking lots within a 2-4 minute walk.

If you wish to enjoy your meal comfortably back at your accommodation, you can also request a takeaway order in advance by calling about 15 minutes before your arrival.

Unlike the old-fashioned vibe of the previous location, the newly renovated, clean interior is spacious with high ceilings, making it feel neat and pleasant. Thanks to the modern and tidy interior, the dining atmosphere felt even more refined, and the wider table spacing allowed for a more relaxed experience.
However, as a local resident, I sometimes find myself missing the old, traditional shop atmosphere.

They also mentioned that the Seogwipo restaurant, now with a more youthful vibe, plans to add exciting new dishes like Mapo Tofu, meat jjamppong, bibim-myeon (spicy mixed noodles), egg stir-fry, and Chinese cold cucumber salad.
For our late breakfast/early lunch in Seogwipo, Jeju, we decided to indulge in a hearty selection of sweet and savory dishes from Heeshin's:
Cold Chicken Wheat Noodles, Samseon Gochu Ganjjajang, and Dak Kkanpunggi (medium).

The basic side dishes included danmuji (pickled radish), mumallaengi (dried radish strips), baechu kimchi (napa cabbage kimchi), and pickled onions, all of which you could refill from the self-service corner.
4. A Unique Culinary Journey Destination's Flavor

When I moved to Jeju six years ago with my husband, who is from Busan (부산) and genuinely passionate about milmyeon (cold wheat noodles), I was quite taken aback after visiting various local milmyeon restaurants.
While many places now sell Busan-style milmyeon, back then, locals often enjoyed milmyeon that felt more like chogye-tang (cold chicken soup), featuring chicken as the main protein.
It's said that in the past, on the island's barren soil, chicken was a more readily available ingredient than pork or beef.

It appears that during the Korean War (6.25전쟁), a diverse food culture took root on Jeju Island as many displaced people and migrants from the mainland flocked there, bringing together dishes like pheasant naengmyeon (cold noodles) and chogye-tang, along with Busan-style milmyeon recipes.
Heeshin's, a Seogwipo restaurant that has been operating for over 20 years, specializes in chicken and offers a unique milmyeon that truly embodies the local flavor.
We had a truly satisfying late breakfast/early lunch in Jeju, even adding an extra bowl of rice to our meal.

The Cold Chicken Wheat Noodles, with their floating ice shards, boasted an excellent refreshing and deep broth. The carefully shredded, tender chicken, crisp cucumber, and plump, delightfully chewy noodles left us feeling cool to the core.

The Samseon Gochu Jjajang was generously loaded with fresh, sweet, wonderfully textured onions and spicy peppers. The noodles, too, were notably plump.

However, since there are so many famous Chinese restaurants and milmyeon places around here, we don't usually visit Heeshin's just for a simple meal of jajangmyeon (black bean noodles), jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), or milmyeon.

The reason my local husband and I are regulars at Heeshin's is precisely because of this Dak Kkanpunggi (spicy garlic chicken).
Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside,
the excellent fried chicken is evenly coated with a sweet and spicy sauce.
The quality is superb, which is why I consider the main dish to be the Dak Kkanpunggi (닭깐풍기).

The seasoning is quite savory, which naturally makes me crave a beer.
But since I couldn't exactly start my Jeju (제주) breakfast with beer,
I ordered an extra bowl of rice and polished it all off.
Whenever I hear 'Heeshin's (희신이네)!' I only think of this Dak Kkanpunggi, so
the phrase 'This is it!' naturally comes to mind.
I consider the Dak Kkanpunggi a main dish, not a side.

If you're in Seogwipo (서귀포) and don't want to eat a full meal at a restaurant,
I'd even recommend just getting this Dak Kkanpunggi to-go and enjoying it at your accommodation.
That's how good it is.
5. A Unique Culinary Destination Flavor

After their expansion and relocation, the space is much more pleasant,
and I recently enjoyed the unique culinary travel taste of Jeju Heeshin's again after a long time.
Their operating hours are quite long,
so you can have anything from a late Jeju Seogwipo breakfast to lunch or dinner,
which means I always visit without hesitation.
While their other meal options are generally good,
this sweet, spicy, and crispy Dak Kkanpunggi stands out for its exceptional quality,
and I highly recommend you try it.
It's perfect both as a side dish for rice and as a snack with drinks.

It's a little sad that the old-school vibe is gone now,
but the clean expansion means you can dine comfortably.
So rather than making a special trip from afar,
if you're on a travel itinerary nearby, I hope you'll visit at least once.
