When planning a trip to Jeju, especially with family, finding that perfect first meal of the day can be a real head-scratcher. You want something that's comforting, satisfying, and pleases everyone at the table. 😧

Today, I'm excited to share our experience from a recent family trip (six adults!) to Haewoljeong, a specialty Bomal Kalguksu restaurant located in Gujwa-eup, Jeju.

Our accommodation, Boutia Pool Villa, was practically a 3-minute drive away, making Haewoljeong the perfect spot for an early breakfast! I originally planned to run over, but the scorching summer heat had other plans for me…

There was plenty of space next door too, so finding a spot was easy.

The restaurant itself is incredibly spacious, easily accommodating large groups. We immediately felt a sense of cool comfort and cleanliness upon entering.

It's a well-known spot, having been featured on the popular Korean TV show "Delicious Guys," and you can spot numerous celebrity autographs adorning the walls.

For our family, this was a combined breakfast and hangover cure mission, so we kept it simple and ordered just the main dishes. 🤤

Sea Urchin Bomal Porridge: ~$17 per person * 3 servings

Bomal Kalguksu: ~$7 per person * 3 servings

At ~$7 for Bomal Kalguksu, I felt this was quite a reasonable price for Jeju Island, where things can often be a bit pricier.

This was my first time trying Bomal Kalguksu, and it was absolutely delicious! I was worried it might taste fishy, but not at all! It was savory and incredibly addictive.

Mid-meal, my dad brought some Cheongyang chili peppers from the self-serve side dish bar, and adding them was a total game-changer! It provided the perfect kick and truly worked wonders as a hangover remedy after a night out!

Since this was my first experience with Bomal Kalguksu, I can't really compare it to other places... my apologies! 😅 I'll make sure to try other spots next time and give you a comparison, promise!

Now, the Sea Urchin Bomal Porridge is priced at ~$17 per serving, which definitely feels a bit on the higher side!

The owner kept strongly recommending it, and while I was a little hesitant about the price, he insisted there was a good reason for his enthusiasm, so we decided to trust his judgment.

I initially worried about it tasting fishy because of the sea urchin, but after just one spoonful of the Sea Urchin Bomal Porridge, I completely understood why the owner was so passionate about it!

On the contrary, the generous amount of sea urchin and bomal made it incredibly rich and savory. All six of us couldn't stop exclaiming, "This is truly delicious!"

If you're traveling with parents or elderly family members, I highly recommend trying the Sea Urchin Bomal Porridge…⭐️ It’s a definite crowd-pleaser!
