Gimnyeong Bitso-ri: Snuppy Garden's Top Tempura & Soba
Experience a culinary highlight on Jeju Island at Gimnyeong Bitso-ri, a beloved spot near Snuppy Garden. Their Badang Set offers exquisite seafood tempura and cold soba. A truly unforgettable meal!

Day 3 of our Jeju Island Adventure:
After exploring the enchanting Snuppy Garden, it was time to refuel.
That day, we headed to Gimnyeong Bitso-ri, a spot I'd been eager to visit for ages!
It came highly recommended by my cousin, who truly knows all the best local eats.
And boy, was she right! Trusting her advice paid off big time.
We visited in winter, and since it was a recommendation, we didn't make a reservation or call ahead. (Little did we know how popular it truly was!)
When we arrived, it became clear that most patrons had used a remote queuing app, like Catchtable, to secure their spot. We were a step behind, unfortunately!
After registering on-site, we had to wait a bit before finally getting a table.

Gimnyeong Bitso-ri's striking yellow exterior immediately caught our eye.
Perhaps a nod to the golden hue of their delicious fried dishes?

Even arriving well past the typical lunch rush, around 2:30 PM,
the restaurant was completely full.
It seemed we were the last lunch customers before their break time.
This truly confirmed its status as a popular hotspot in Gimnyeong.

Instructions on how to best enjoy the meal were clearly written,
and the menu offered detailed descriptions of each dish.

The interior itself was charming, with cute details like the 'Shrimp Cutlet Cat' decor.
Visiting as a pair, we ordered one of the recommended set menus.
There are two main sets: the Sonnagi Set (Rain Shower Set) and the Badang Set (Sea Set).
The key difference lies in the type of tempura served with each.
The Sonnagi Set features mostly vegetable tempura,
while the Badang Set focuses on seafood, such as shrimp and squid.
We opted for the Badang Set, which includes:
2 servings of Badang Tempura, 1.5 servings of Cold Soba, Onsen Tamago Rice (soy sauce egg rice),
Smacked Cucumber Salad, and Potato Salad.

The Badang Set arrived, a generous spread featuring crispy fried seafood alongside cold soba, rice, and various salads.

At first glance, I worried the portions might be a bit small, but once we started eating, it was clear there was more than enough.
It was the perfect amount for two people.
And the presentation? Absolutely stunning!

The tempura was incredibly crispy without being greasy, and pairing it with the refreshing cold soba was a match made in heaven.
It was so delicious that it truly stands out as one of the most memorable meals I've had on Jeju Island.
The restaurant's interior, decorated with charming Japanese-inspired touches, also added to the delightful ambiance.
We saw many families, and even solo diners comfortably enjoying their meals at the counter seating.
They even had high chairs, and the little one behind us was devouring their food!
It's clear why this place is already a beloved spot among locals and travelers alike.

If you're planning a visit to Snuppy Garden,
and looking for a fantastic restaurant in Gimnyeong, this place is perfect to combine with your itinerary.
It's not far from Snuppy Garden by car,
and there are even charming souvenir shops along the way for some extra browsing!
Gimnyeong Bitso-ri was so satisfying, I'd willingly make a special trip even without other plans in the area.
Given that tempura is their specialty, it's fitting that the sound of rain (빗소리, 'bit-so-ri') seemed to accompany our meal with every crispy bite. What clever naming!
If you love tempura and soba and find yourself on the eastern side of Jeju, I highly recommend checking this place out!
