Living in Jeju, there's a particular Seogwipo attraction I find myself frequently visiting whenever I feel the change of the seasons through nature.

That place is Cheonjiyeon Waterfall, located on Jeju Olle Trail Course 7.

Nestled in the heart of Seogwipo City, this waterfall boasts excellent accessibility while embracing majestic nature. Along with Jeongbang Waterfall and Cheonjeyeon Waterfall, it's one of the three great waterfalls you'll encounter on the Jeju Olle Trail courses, making it a consistently popular Seogwipo travel spot attracting countless visitors.

Its name, meaning 'the pond where heaven and earth meet,' is already beautiful. But if you visit on a clear day after it rains, you'll be greeted by a refreshing stream of water cascading down between the bizarre rock formations, living up to its name. It truly feels healing every time I visit.

Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is conveniently located within walking distance from Seogwipo Port, making it a fantastic place to easily visit, even for those trekking Jeju Olle Trail Course 7.

It's also great to take a stroll to Saeyeongyo Bridge and Saeseom Island, which are within walking distance. And don't forget to include Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market and Lee Jung-seop Street, both just a 5-minute drive away, in your itinerary.

As expected of a popular tourist spot, it attracts large crowds, so the parking lot is quite expansive. You'll also find restaurants and souvenir shops lining the area around the parking lot.

As Jeju residents get free admission, my family often visits just for a walk. From the perspective of a local who has been here dozens of times, I'll share the charm of Cheonjiyeon and some handy tips, one by one.

2. Healing from the Moment You Enter

From the moment you pass the ticket office and head towards the waterfall, Cheonjiyeon's unique and delightful healing experience begins.

You can watch groups of ducks leisurely swimming in the clear water. These well-loved ducks aren't afraid of people, so they sometimes waddle excitedly all the way out to the nearby road, which means you should drive carefully!

You'll find restrooms even before you reach the ticket booth,

And once you're inside, there are more restrooms about halfway along the scenic trail to the waterfall – good to know for your journey!

Right in front of the ticket check, you'll find the Cheonjiyeon Rest Area, home to charming prop shops and gift stores. You can even send delicious local fruits back to the mainland from here!

And you won't believe how adorable the gentle, plump cats are, looked after by the shop staff!

We're also regulars at the Hanchi Bakery, located right next to the ticket check. Hanchi bread, generously filled with squid and mozzarella cheese, is a beloved local snack even among us residents. This particular shop makes it exceptionally delicious, so much so that we just can't walk past it! Of course, we grabbed one again and savored every bite.

Did you know that this is also the original location of Gyeongju's famous 10-Won Coin Bread? As the very first branch in the country, it carries a certain prestige! We always grab one for ~$3 (bought with our own money, of course!) and savor it before embarking on our walk along the beautiful Jeju Olle Trail.

Near the entrance, you'll also find a lovely shaded table zone, perfect for relaxing and freely available for everyone to use.

3. Jeju Seogwipo's Must-See Sights: Breathtaking Landscapes

Jeju's Cheonjiyeon Falls is a natural masterpiece, with its untouched beauty making every spot a perfect photo opportunity! You can capture stunning shots on the arched stone bridge, framed by the lush subtropical forest, and even cross the stepping stones to get a closer look at the fish in the water.

The Cheonjiyeon Falls area is celebrated for its geological and ecological importance, proudly recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark. As one of Seogwipo's significant geological attractions, it's home to several natural treasures: the long-finned eel, the lush Cheonjiyeon subtropical forest, and the native habitat of the Machilus thunbergii (Damppalsu) tree, all designated as natural monuments and meticulously protected.

This place truly boasts exceptional scenic beauty, so much so that it's designated as a National Cultural Heritage Scenic Spot.

By day, immerse yourself in the fresh, vibrant greenery of the pristine forest, and by night, let the soft, romantic lighting transform your Seogwipo journey into a magical experience. It truly feels like a gift of a destination!

From the ticket booth to the main waterfall, it's a leisurely 10 to 15-minute stroll along a comfortable walking path, making it easily accessible and enjoyable for visitors of all ages.

Here, you'll witness a stunning waterfall fed by a clear stream, originating from the southern slopes of Hallasan Mountain and gracefully cutting through the heart of Seogwipo.

Historically, stretching back to the Joseon Dynasty, this was known as a sacred and powerful place where people performed rain rituals during droughts.

Standing at 22 meters high and 12 meters wide, its scale might be a bit more modest compared to the nearby Jeongbang Falls, but the spectacle of the waterfall gracefully plunging into a deep, sapphire-blue lake, approximately 20 meters deep, is utterly magnificent.

You'll often find many visitors lining up at various picturesque spots, eager to capture their own memories with the iconic Cheonjiyeon Falls, a truly popular Seogwipo attraction!

The valley landscape, framed by unique rock formations that stretch out like a folding screen and preserving the ancient beauty created by rare subtropical forests, offers a truly mystical and moving experience.

4. Concluding Our Walk on Jeju Olle Trail Course 7

So, I’ve introduced you to Cheonjiyeon Falls, a beautiful spot in Seogwipo, Jeju. Even if you take your time snapping photos, it’s just a 30-40 minute round trip from the entrance, making it a perfectly relaxed and enjoyable visit!

For a while, it was a bit of a bummer that pets weren't allowed, but here's some exciting news! Starting July 2025, furry friends can join you again! As long as your dog is under 40cm in height, has completed animal registration, and is either in a carrier/stroller or on a leash (within 2m), you can explore Cheonjiyeon Falls together. Just something to keep in mind for your future travels!

While the lush, vibrant primeval forest is stunning during the day, this place truly comes alive at night! Imagine a romantic evening stroll along the Jeju Olle Trail, with the gentle sounds of the waterfall illuminated by magical lights – it’s an experience that makes this spot even more special.

It's also a hub for various festivals and cultural events, so you'll find an outdoor stage ready for performances.

And if you extend your stroll along the Olle Trail to the nearby Saeyeongyo Bridge or Saeseom Island promenade, you'll discover an even broader walking adventure. Cheonjiyeon Falls truly is a captivating must-visit spot in Seogwipo, Jeju!
