Every time I've visited Jeju, I've somehow missed out on a truly great black pork BBQ spot.
But this time, I finally hit the jackpot!!!
If you're exploring Seogwipo Olle Market or Cheonjiyeon Falls
and looking for an authentic Jeju Black Pork experience,
I highly recommend Black Pork BBQ.
Not only was the meat itself fantastic,
but the side dishes were incredibly diverse and well-prepared,
from spicy marinated crab (yangnyeom gejang) to various fermented seafood (jeotgal).
I truly enjoyed every single bite until the very end :)

1. A Must-Visit Restaurant Near Seogwipo Olle Market, Jeju

Black Pork BBQ is conveniently located on Taepyeong-ro in Seogwipo,
making it close to Olle Market and Cheonjiyeon Falls.
It's perfect for fitting into your sightseeing schedule.
With other major tourist attractions like Lee Jung-seop Street and Jeongbang Falls
also nearby in Seogwipo,
it's an ideal spot for dinner after a day of exploring!

Having been open for 9 years, it's not just a favorite among Jeju locals,
but also a popular spot for tourists.
When I stepped inside, I noticed one wall was completely covered with
signatures from celebrities and athletes...!

They use Grade 1 black pork supplied directly from Jeju farms,
and it's the same meat delivered to
The Shilla Hotel and Hyundai Department Store. So, my expectations for the meat's quality were super high!

What's more, the pork is first grilled over Binchotan charcoal,
then brought to your table to be grilled again.
This way, you truly get to savor that incredible charcoal aroma!
2. Black Pork BBQ: Waiting & Interior Vibe

Instead of the sleek, modern aesthetic of newer BBQ joints,
the interior had a strong vibe of a traditional, local Jeju eatery.
Definitely felt like a genuine hidden gem...!

The clientele wasn't just tourists either; it was a really diverse mix of ages.
Since there can be a wait after 6 PM,
if your travel schedule is flexible,
it might be a good idea to visit a bit earlier!

We actually went around 5:30 PM on a weekday,
and it was relaxed until about 6 PM, when customers started pouring in.
They open at 4:30 PM, so I recommend visiting between 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM!

And what truly surprised me here was
the incredibly generous array of side dishes!
Spicy marinated crab (yangnyeom gejang) comes as a standard side dish... isn't that amazing?!
The sauce had perfectly infused into the crab meat,
and I just couldn't stop myself from digging in before the main course even arrived ㅠㅠ

Not just salad and kimchi,
but also fermented herring roe, fermented hairtail gut sauce, *meljeot* (fermented anchovy sauce), etc.
I loved the diverse array of delicious pairings
available for the black pork.

What's more, here they even
offer Hanwoo *yukhoe* (Korean beef tartare) as a complimentary service!
The thinly sliced *yukhoe* was tender and savory,
and with the added richness of an egg yolk,
it was absolutely perfect for whetting the appetite.
Please note that *yukhoe* may run out early!

As expected of a truly great restaurant, the menu is simple!
You just order according to the number of people in your party :)
There's also a wide variety of beers
that pair perfectly with the meat.

They even sell Xuehua Beer here!
It's a Chinese beer that's not commonly found,
but the combination of charcoal-grilled black pork and refreshing Xuehua Beer
is a must-try!!! Highly recommended!
3. Honest Review of the Black Pork Set

Black Pork Set for 4 (800g) ~$64
*Doenjang Jjigae* (Soybean Paste Stew) ~$4

Since it's composed of 200g each of *Ogyeopsal* (five-layered pork belly), *Moksal* (pork neck),
*Gabrisal* (skirt meat), and *Hanjeongsal* (pork jowl),
it was much better than just eating one type of cut.

The first batch of meat is personally grilled by the owner or staff,
which is incredibly convenient.
If thick black pork is grilled incorrectly,
it's easy for the outside to burn or become dry and tough,
but they cook it perfectly until it's just right for eating.

When I took a bite of the perfectly cooked meat,
the outside was slightly crispy with a smoky charcoal aroma,
and the juices just flowed from the inside.

The pork neck (*Moksal*) was especially tender and moist despite its thickness, not dry at all,
and the five-layered pork belly (*Ogyeopsal*) had an excellent ratio of lean meat to fat, becoming even more savory with every chew.

The pork skirt meat (*Gabrisal*) was springy with a rich meaty flavor,
while the pork jowl (*Hanjeongsal*) definitely had its unique chewy texture and savory fatty taste,
so comparing the four different cuts was a really fun experience, too, haha!

And here, you absolutely must try it with various combinations!
If you add a little fermented herring roe,
a savory umami flavor is added,
and dipping it in 'meljeot' (fermented anchovy sauce) made from flower anchovies
then adding fresh wasabi completely cuts through any richness.

I don't usually prefer seafood with a strong fishy smell,
so I'm not usually a fan of meljeot either,
but the meljeot here wasn't too fishy, so I really enjoyed it!

My absolute favorite combination was the 'samhap' (a trio) of kimchi + cabbage + galchi-sokjeot (fermented hairtail guts)!
Packing it generously into a ssam (lettuce wrap),
after the spicy and savory flavors,
the juicy richness of the black pork came through, making me want to keep eating!

For Koreans, the perfect way to finish is, of course, with Doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew).
A bowl of rice is separate when ordering the stew, costing ~$1!
With the characteristic savory, earthy flavor of doenjang as its base,
the kick of spiciness that comes afterwards was perfect for finishing up after eating rich, fatty meat.

I've had Jeju black pork many times before,
but this place made me think, 'I definitely want to come back here again!'

Especially if you're looking for a great restaurant near Olle Market
or Cheonjiyeon Falls,
and you prioritize meat quality, a variety of cuts, and excellent side dishes,
I highly recommend this place.

If you're wondering where to eat Jeju black pork,
I'd likely choose this place again next time too! :)
