Andol Oreum Introduction & Location

Nestled in Gujwa-eup, Jeju City, Andol Oreum is part of a cluster of volcanic cones, alongside Geoseunsemi Oreum and Batdol Oreum.

Its name, 'Andol Oreum,' literally means 'inner stone oreum,' referring to its secluded, inward-facing topography. A distinctive feature is its horseshoe-shaped crater.

What makes it truly special is the lush, natural forest that thrives only within the crater's inner slopes and valleys. The surrounding areas, in contrast, feature smooth, expansive grasslands, which perfectly explain its nickname: 'The Secret Forest.'

If you're seeking a peaceful Jeju oreum for a tranquil stroll, I wholeheartedly recommend this spot.

To avoid the bumpy ride, set your GPS destination to 'The Secret Forest.'

This route will guide you to a parking lot in front of The Secret Forest, as well as a smaller lot directly in front of Andol Oreum.

Entrance

The entrance to Andol Oreum is conveniently located right in front of the parking area.

Interestingly, Andol Oreum still functions as a pasture where cattle roam freely.

Right from the entrance, you're enveloped in a distinct forest trail ambiance, allowing you to soak in Jeju's unique natural atmosphere even before you begin your ascent.

Duration & My Experience

Andol Oreum stands at approximately 305 feet (93 meters), so it's not an extremely high oreum. However, you'll encounter some surprisingly steep sections along the way.

Personally, due to a knee issue, I didn't make it all the way to the summit. But my friends who did assured me that the panoramic views from the top are absolutely breathtaking!

However, even if you don't reach the very top, there's a convenient bench at a halfway point, perfect for resting and soaking in the scenery.

And let me tell you, the view from this spot alone was incredibly satisfying.

Overall, the paths are primarily dirt and grassy trails, so some sections can feel a bit slippery. I highly recommend wearing sturdy sneakers or hiking shoes. It would definitely be even slicker after a rain shower.

While it's wonderfully quiet and peaceful for a stroll, being a relatively secluded oreum, there aren't many people around. I did feel it might be a little risky to visit alone.

If you take your time, a round trip typically takes about 30-40 minutes, making it a perfect route for a light, refreshing walk.

Overall Review

✔️ A tranquil oreum for a peaceful escape in Eastern Jeju.

✔️ Features some steep sections, but not excessively high.

✔️ Offers satisfying views even without reaching the summit.

Even if you're concerned about knee issues or physical exertion, this oreum is enjoyable even if you only go partway up, thanks to those lovely resting points.

However, since the paths can be a bit slippery and it's not heavily trafficked, I recommend wearing sneakers and visiting with a companion.

If you're looking to experience serene nature in Eastern Jeju, away from the typical tourist spots, Jeju's Secret Forest, Andol Oreum, is definitely worth a visit.
