Having tried Umu before,
I wasn't particularly planning on getting it this time.
I also couldn't be bothered to go out of my way for it,
and honestly, standing in line on the 3rd floor wasn't appealing.
Then, by pure chance,
I stumbled upon Umu on the 1st floor,
and wow, it was still as delicious as ever, plus they had airport-exclusive menu items!
I would have seriously regretted not getting it.

it's essentially a takeout-only window where you grab your treat and go!
When I visited, I was able to place my order and get it right away.
Having already seen the long queues on the 3rd floor, stumbling upon Umu on the 1st floor felt like a real stroke of luck!

Jeju Airport Umu: 1st Floor Arrivals
The greatest perk of Umu on Jeju Airport's 1st floor is undoubtedly
how easily you can grab your treats and go!
However, the trade-off is that after you buy your pudding, you'll need to find a spot to enjoy it,
and finding a comfy seat on either the 1st or 3rd floor of Jeju Airport wasn't exactly easy.
Luckily, I was able to take it through security,
so I enjoyed mine in the departure lounge after passing through security.
If you have plenty of time and prefer to sit down and savor your treat,
the 3rd-floor location might be the better option for you.
Conversely, if you're like me and just want to quickly grab some Umu,
the 1st-floor takeout window was much more convenient.

Why You MUST Try Umu at Jeju Airport
Actually, it wasn't my first time trying Umu,
so I initially thought I didn't necessarily need to have it on this trip.
But, as expected, Umu was still delicious, no matter how many times I've had it.
Even though I'd tried it before and considered skipping it this time,
I'm so glad I decided to get it again.
I tried the Custard and Milk & Caramel puddings🫙
➡️ Custard: This is Umu's most classic flavor,
making it perfect for first-timers.
The rich custard flavor just melts in your mouth.
With its familiar custard taste and smooth pudding texture,
if you're unsure which flavor to choose,
you can't go wrong with this classic.
➡️ Milk & Caramel Pudding
The bright pudding layer on top and the distinct caramel layer below were beautifully separated.
The sweet yet slightly bitter caramel perfectly complemented the custard,
and for me, it was just as delicious as the classic Custard.
However, after about 30 minutes from purchase, it started to separate like water,
so it seems like you really need to eat it right away. (I'm not sure if this is normal or if it separated due to time.)
Tips for Choosing Your Umu Flavor at Jeju Airport
With so many Umu pudding varieties, you might wonder which flavor to pick.
If you're hesitating, let me give you some recommendations!

It's a great way to start with the most classic flavor.

It's Best to Eat Umu as Soon as You Buy It
The reason Umu is even more special is...
It's probably because you can only enjoy it here in Jeju.
If possible, it's best to eat it soon after buying it.
Especially since it's a cold pudding, if you carry it around for too long,
it'll be hard to enjoy the original texture you first experienced.
If you can't eat it right away and need to travel for a while,
check if you can buy an insulated bag on site. (~$3)
We had an Abebe Bakery insulated bag, so we put it in there and carried it around.
Even then, it's tough to keep it fresh for over 30 minutes,
and as I mentioned before, there are no dedicated seats on the 1st floor,
so it's a good idea to think about where you'll eat your Umu
before you even buy it.
