Hey there, fellow foodies and explorers!
It's Toffee. your go-to guide for finding the best local spots in Seoul.
If you're hanging out around Jamsil or the Lotte World area, you have to check out the Bangi-dong Food Alley.
Recently, a friend and I headed there on a weekend and managed to snag a spot at one of the most popular outdoor dining spots in the area without waiting: Jeil Gopchang Bangi Branch!
Here is my honest review and some tips on how you can experience this local favorite.

🕖 Snagging a Table on a Busy Weekend

I visited on a weekend evening with a girlfriend.
Bangi-dong is absolutely packed on weekends, so we were fully prepared to wait in a long line. 🥹
As we walked past, we wondered if there would be any open tables.
But luck was on our side! Just as we arrived, a group left an outdoor table,
and we got seated without waiting a single minute! (Talk about a lucky day! 🤞🍀)

Literally minutes after we sat down, a huge queue started forming
for the outdoor street-side seats (known locally as "Yajang").
It made me realize once again: when it comes to popular restaurants, timing is everything!
📋 What We Ordered

We started off by ordering the Assorted Grilled Platter for 2.
For side dishes, they served fresh raw cabbage, which is highly recommended
to help cut through the richness of the meat! 👍

At Jeil Gopchang, they serve a complimentary Octopus Soft Tofu Stew (Nakji Sundubu Jjigae), and it is incredibly addictive!

It tastes a bit light at first, but once you let it boil down, it becomes
the perfect spicy, comforting soup to balance out the rich grilled meats.

The Assorted Platter comes loaded with
Gopchang (small intestine), Daechang (large intestine), Makchang (abomasum), Yeomtong (heart), and Beoljip-yang (honeycomb tripe).
It is beautifully arranged with bean sprouts, chives, green onion kimchi, potatoes, and even slices of bread 🍞.
The bread is actually there to soak up the excess grease, but it looked so delicious! Haha.

We were wondering why it was taking a little while to come out,
but it turned out they fully pre-cook everything in the kitchen first!

This is actually a huge plus because you can eat it immediately!
Even though it's fully cooked, keeping your table burner on low heat
ensures every bite stays warm and crispy throughout your meal.

I'm usually not the biggest fan of gopchang, but here, there was absolutely zero gamey smell.
Every cut was incredibly savory, buttery, and satisfying!

And now for the ultimate comfort food... K-Dessert time! 🥳
The fried rice is cooked in the remaining flavorful oils on the grill, making it unbelievably delicious.
If you want an extra punch of flavor, add plenty of green onion kimchi.
Pro-tip: Grill the green onion kimchi in the fat beforehand,
then mix it into the fried rice for an absolute flavor bomb!
💬 Final Verdict on Jeil Gopchang Bangi Branch
It had been a while since I enjoyed dining outdoors (Yajang style),
and the cool breeze made this Bangi-dong restaurant the perfect spot!
The high-quality, odor-free meat was fantastic. If it gets too hot or cold,
they also have a fully air-conditioned indoor dining area.
The restrooms were clean, and overall, it was a highly satisfying experience.

However, because the outdoor tables are highly coveted during peak weekend hours, you might face a long wait if your timing isn't perfect.
They do offer reservations via Naver!
If you are planning a visit, I highly recommend booking in advance.
