I visited the Hyundai Card Music Library (현대카드 뮤직 라이브러리), where you can enjoy a wide variety of classic LPs for free.

Usually, when listening to music, streaming services like Melon or Spotify
are what I'm used to,
but sometimes, you just want to truly immerse yourself in the music, right?

Based on my personal visit,
I'll summarize how to use the Hyundai Card Music Library in Hannam-dong (한남동), how to listen to LPs, and what my experience was like.

How to Enter

Admission is free!
However, you can only enter if you have a Hyundai Card or are a member of the Hyundai Card DIVE app.
At the 1st floor check-in reception, after verifying your Hyundai Card membership, you can leave your belongings and receive a pass card.

The Hyundai Card Music Library building
operates with the basement as the Understage (언더스테이지) performance hall,
the 1st floor as the reception and cafe,
and the 2nd floor as the Music Library.
Operating hours are Tuesday-Saturday 12:00 - 21:00,
and Sunday 12:00 - 18:00 (closed Mondays)

The 1st floor Pastel Cafe (파스텔 카페) also has a great atmosphere and unique designer sofas, making it one of the famous cafes in Hannam!
Anyone can use the cafe, even if they're not a Hyundai Card member.

For your reference, parking is not available, and you'll need to use a nearby public parking lot.
It's about a 5-minute walk from Hangangjin Station (한강진역) on Line 6, so I recommend visiting by public transport.

How to Use

When you first receive your pass card and enter, a staff member will guide you towards the elevator.
Just tap your pass card and head up to the 2nd floor.

The Music Library is structured across two floors like this.
You can largely access two types of materials: music-related books and vinyl records,
and the vinyl records are categorized by various genres such as jazz, soul, rock, electronic, and hip-hop.

Before visiting, what I was most curious about was how to actually use the facilities.
Basically, you can enter the space and freely browse music-related materials, and you can also enjoy 30 minutes of LP listening.
If it's your first time visiting, I recommend getting a brief explanation of how to use it from a staff member.

You can browse through the LP records in the library and find the album you want yourself.
Normally, you can listen to music immediately by just searching for the artist's name or song title,
but here, the process of wandering between bookshelves and discovering records for yourself felt a bit different and special.

You can also see popular and new records on the DIVE app,
and you can even search for information about the records, making it easy to find what you're looking for.

You can choose up to three LP records,
and once you've picked your desired records, tell a staff member and they'll assign you to an available seat.

I haven't played LPs myself very often, so I was a little nervous,
but a staff member kindly showed me how to use it, and it turned out to be easier than I thought!

This time, the first album I picked was by Amy Winehouse.
Choosing which album to listen to by looking at the record cover,
and the process of taking out the LP and listening to the music directly, felt distinctly different from streaming.
I loved that it was a time when I didn't need to rush, and I could fully focus on the music!

Even if you're not deeply knowledgeable about music,
the fact that there are recommended masterpiece lists by era allows you to explore the history of popular music, find records you're curious about, and listen to them right away!
That's an incredible experience only possible at the Hyundai Card Music Library (현대카드 뮤직 라이브러리).

However, the LP listening turntables aren't available for unlimited use; there's a 30-minute time limit.
When you're first assigned a seat, they give you a call bell, and when it rings, it unfortunately means your 30 minutes are up, and you need to yield to the next person.

What I Loved

1. The Joy of Discovering Records Yourself
With streaming services, you just type in an artist's name and the music plays instantly, but here, you have to search through the shelves for records yourself, almost like a treasure hunt.
It might seem a bit cumbersome, but I actually found this process really fun.
Going through each bookshelf to see what albums were available felt like an experience in itself.
2. You Experience Music Album by Album
These days, we often listen to music through playlists or recommendation algorithms, don't we?
But as I was choosing LPs, I naturally ended up listening to an entire album by one artist.
It was also great that I could discover songs I wouldn't normally listen to.
3. You Get to Experience LPs Themselves
For someone who doesn't own LPs, I think the biggest advantage is being able to experience them firsthand without needing to set up a turntable at home.
Especially for people like me, who love music but aren't serious LP enthusiasts, it's a fantastic place to try it out without any pressure!

Even after my LP listening session was over, exploring the space itself was enjoyable.
There was also a terrace where I could step out for some fresh air.

It's also fun to browse through **rare records** that are valuable just for the sake of collecting them,

There were also many music-related books that are hard to come by normally, so many people enjoyed reading.

On the second floor, we mainly explored magazines and books.

The place I definitely recommend on the second floor is the magazine corner.
They have a complete collection of the famous music magazine, **Rolling Stone**.
If you're a music lover, you could easily spend hours here just browsing through the eras when your favorite artists were active!

Besides this, you can also suggest books you'd like to see.
It was also great that pencils and notepads were provided for quick notes.

Can someone who's never listened to an LP before use it?
I've only used LPs a few times at a friend's house, so I'm a **complete beginner**, but...
The staff member kindly explained how to use it, so I didn't have much trouble!

How long should I stay?
If you're just looking around the space without listening to LPs, you can visit briefly.
However, if you plan to choose records and listen to them yourself, I recommend setting aside a bit more time.
Especially when you're searching for and browsing albums by your favorite artists, time flies by faster than you'd expect.
I stayed for about **2 hours**, including the LP listening time!

Is it okay to visit alone?
I also visited alone to fully immerse myself in the music!
The experience of slowly listening to music by myself was wonderful.
If you want to listen to music quietly or slowly enjoy your favorite albums, it's a perfect space to visit alone.
Conversely, if you're a couple with similar musical tastes, it would also be a fun date idea to choose albums and listen together!
