Recently, a dear friend from Suwon made the journey to my office in Seoul to receive a wedding invitation – a true feat, especially with a little one at home! I was so touched by her effort.
When I asked what she was craving, dim sum was the immediate answer. A quick search for the “best dim sum in Yeouido” led us straight to Hou Sum at The Hyundai Seoul. So, we decided to check it out for a weekday lunch.

Insider Tips for Waiting on a Weekday Lunch
Even though waiting times have somewhat eased in 2026, Hou Sum is still famously popular at The Hyundai Seoul. If you're planning a weekday lunch visit, I highly recommend using The Hyundai Department Store app to join the waiting list remotely.
The app allows you to queue starting from 10:30 AM, the store's opening time. Keep in mind that the 'waiting closed' message might appear if the restaurant isn't yet full. The queue officially opens once all tables are occupied, so watch your timing and hit 'Join Waiting List' strategically!

Considering the typical restaurant sizes within The Hyundai Seoul, Hou Sum is quite generous, yet it's almost always bustling – a clear sign of its popularity!
Just a heads-up: all members of your dining party must be present before you can be seated. So, make sure everyone arrives before your turn!

Hou Sum specializes in authentic Hong Kong cuisine, with their Hong Kong-style Pot Rice (뽀짜이판, 'Bbojjaippan') and Clear Beef Noodle Soup ('Wuyuktangmyeon') being particularly famous.

If you dine between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM or 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM and spend over ~$22, you'll receive 4 complimentary pieces of Xiao Long Bao!
What a fantastic deal! While my weekday lunch schedule didn't allow for it, I'm definitely keeping this in mind for a future visit on a day off.
Once we were seated, we used the QR code on the table to place our order.

On our table, we found a selection of condiments: Pot Rice Soy Sauce, Dim Sum Soy Sauce, and Lahzhojang chili oil.
Clear Beef Noodle Soup
First to arrive was Hou Sum's Clear Beef Noodle Soup. I'd previously fallen in love with this dish at the Hou Sum branch in Yeongdeungpo Times Square, so I had to order it again!
The broth, especially with a hint of cilantro, was incredibly clean and refreshing – almost like a delicious hangover cure! The beef was wonderfully tender too. Absolutely delicious!
Hou Sum Wontons
Next up, the Hou Sum Wontons. These came with a delightful Mala sauce that wasn't overwhelmingly spicy but had a subtle, aromatic kick. The wontons themselves were incredibly soft, like delicate dumplings. Truly a fantastic dish!
Black Har Gao
And for my friend, who was specifically craving dim sum, we ordered the Black Har Gao! Aren't they just gorgeous, with their glossy, shell-like appearance? And the taste was even better than they looked. The wrapper was perfectly chewy, and the shrimp filling was incredibly plump and juicy. Three pieces were definitely not enough – we wanted more!
Xiao Long Bao
To make sure my friend got her fill of dim sum, we added Xiao Long Bao to our order. While I personally preferred the Black Har Gao, these soup dumplings were still incredibly flavorful and satisfying.
Pork & Mapo Tofu Pot Rice
Finally, the famous Hong Kong-style Pot Rice! This was my first time trying it, and I was so curious about the flavor.
It wasn't an entirely exotic taste; imagine a wonderfully savory Mapo Tofu rice served in a sizzling hot pot. It was simply '맛없없' (mat-eop-eop) – a Korean expression meaning 'impossible not to be delicious'! Truly a crowd-pleaser that anyone would enjoy.
This was my first visit to Hou Sum at The Hyundai Seoul, and I was absolutely thrilled with every single dish we ordered. Knowing I can use the app to manage the waiting list means I'll definitely be back often!
