🐯 Horang Silbi: Your Go-To Spot in Sindang Station Jungang Market if you're looking for...
✔︎ An incredible value restaurant and bar in Seoul's Jung-gu area.
✔︎ A fantastic dining experience within the bustling Jungang Market.
✔︎ A unique 'Samchonkase' culinary adventure.

Horang Silbi, located near Sindang Station in Jung-gu, is famous for its 'Samchonkase' – a daily changing menu crafted from the freshest ingredients. While I'm not a big drinker and the mandatory alcohol order was a slight surprise, the diverse drink menu and the sheer generosity of the 'Horang Hansang' set made it feel like the drinks were almost a bonus!

Horang Silbi operates in three seatings: 5:00 PM, 7:00 PM, and 9:00 PM. Out of their nine tables, only three are available for reservations, with the remaining six kept for walk-ins. This means that securing a spot via Naver Reservations can be quite competitive. We actually forgot to book on the reservation opening day, so we ended up trying our luck as walk-ins. Even arriving before 5:30 PM, all tables were taken, so we put our name down and waited until the 7:00 PM seating. It was worth it, though!
Interior Ambiance

I actually went in without really checking out the interior, focusing more on the menu. So, I was pleasantly surprised by how beautifully decorated it was! It's a fantastic blend of traditional Korean aesthetics and modern design. The 'Cheongsachorong' (traditional Korean lantern) decor, in particular, caught my eye – it was truly charming!
Menu Highlights

While individual dishes are available, my sister and I opted for the 'Horang Hansang' set, which allows you to sample a variety of their offerings. The 'Horang Hansang' includes aged sashimi, octopus samhap (a trio of octopus, pork, and kimchi), a seasonal dish, grilled fish, and a stew. For our drink, we chose 'Hogam,' a sparkling wine described as having low alcohol content and a sweet persimmon aroma – perfect for my palate!

After placing our order, our table was quickly set, and the feast began!
Aged Sashimi

First up was the aged sashimi. Considering the 'Horang Hansang' is only ~$43 and includes so many dishes, I expected smaller portions or thinner slices of fish. But I was so wrong! The sashimi was generously portioned and delightfully thick.
Octopus Samhap

The octopus samhap was equally impressive, with plenty of tender meat. What really stood out was the spicy dried radish kimchi – it had just the right amount of kick and flavor, making each bite truly satisfying.
Spicy Calamari Buckwheat Noodles

This spicy calamari buckwheat noodle dish was likely our seasonal offering for the 'Horang Hansang.' While it might not be available every time you visit, I was thrilled by the generous amount of calamari. It was so good, I'd order it as an à la carte item if it were on the regular menu – alas, it's not!
Grilled Fish

The grilled fish was a solid, classic choice – simple and satisfying!
Spicy Fish Stew (Maeuntang)

For our stew, we chose the spicy fish stew (Maeuntang) from the two options available. Often, when you add a Maeuntang to a sashimi meal for an extra ~$4, you get a broth with barely any fish. But Horang Silbi's Maeuntang was packed with incredibly generous portions of fish, not to mention cod roe and milt! My sister and I were genuinely surprised. The broth itself was wonderfully refreshing and flavorful. While I haven't tried the other stew, I wholeheartedly recommend the Maeuntang!
Banana Brûlée Ice Cream

The 'Horang Hansang' menu didn't mention dessert, so imagine our delight when they brought out Banana Brûlée Ice Cream after our meal! The brûléed banana was delicious, but I especially loved the sweet, clustered cereal (like JoriPong) that came with it. All of this for just ~$43? It's an absolute steal and definitely worth visiting!
Hogam Sparkling Wine

Though ordering alcohol was mandatory, this beautifully presented sparkling persimmon wine, Hogam, was a pleasant surprise. While it claimed to have a low alcohol feel, it definitely still tasted like wine, but with a light, almost juice-like quality!
Nearby Attractions: Jungang Market Exploration

Since we missed the 5:00 PM walk-in seating and had to wait for the 7:00 PM slot, we decided to explore the area. That's when we realized Horang Silbi is right inside Jungang Market! It was a happy coincidence, giving us a chance to wander through the market. This market seems to be a real foodie haven – we saw quite a few restaurants with long queues, which means my sister and I will definitely be back to explore more!

✔︎ Horang Silbi Review at Sindang Station Jungang Market
With its trendy vibe and beautifully presented dishes, I initially thought Horang Silbi would mainly appeal to younger crowds. But surprisingly, we saw many patrons from older generations enjoying themselves too! Perhaps it's the fantastic food and generous portions that draw everyone in. It truly seems like a place for all ages to enjoy. If you can, try to secure a reservation. Otherwise, go for a walk-in and experience this delightful spot for yourself!
