What's the typical wait time at Dodol Gopchang Jeongol?
Can I make a reservation at Dodol Gopchang Jeongol?
This spot can get pretty busy, especially on weekday evenings and weekends, so you might encounter a wait. If you're planning a group gathering or a dinner with friends, I highly recommend making a reservation. The restaurant is quite cozy, so it's best to book ahead if your party is 6 people or more.
Exterior / Interior
Located about a 4-minute walk from Hapjeong Station Exit 8, it's tucked away in an alley but surprisingly easy to find. Outside the restaurant, you'll see a menu and operating hours clearly displayed, so you can check prices before stepping inside.
Inside, it's a charming, intimate space with about five tables. It has that authentic, beloved local eatery vibe rather than a big chain restaurant feel. There's only one table that can comfortably seat 6 people, so if you're coming with a larger group, definitely make that reservation!
They also have a restroom inside, which is always a plus for convenience!
Menu & Our Order
Dodol Gopchang Jeongol, a true gem among Hapjeong's gopchang spots, offers a simple yet satisfying menu. For lunch, they serve Beef Gopchang Ttukbaegi (hot pot in an earthenware bowl), Sundaeguk (Korean blood sausage soup), and Spicy Sundaeguk. Their main dinner menu is even more focused, featuring just three items: Beef Gopchang Jeongol, Beef Gopchang Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour gopchang), and Gamjajeon (potato pancake). Personally, I always trust restaurants that specialize in a few signature dishes rather than trying to do too much!
What We Ordered:
·Beef Gopchang Jeongol (Medium) ~$32
·Fried Rice ~$2
·Soju/Beer ~$3 * n
Our Experience
To order, just tell the friendly owner directly. The basic side dishes are kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi) and pickled cabbage. At first, I wondered if pickled cabbage would pair well with gopchang jeongol, but it surprisingly cuts through the rich, deep flavor of the stew, leaving a refreshingly clean palate.
When our Beef Gopchang Jeongol arrived, I was genuinely surprised by the sheer quantity! Even the medium size came in an impressively large pot.
It was packed with various vegetables like mushrooms, napa cabbage, onions, green onions, perilla leaves, tteok (rice cakes), and, of course, a generous amount of gopchang (beef intestines).
The gopchang had virtually no gamey smell and was delightfully chewy. The broth was rich and flavorful without being overly aggressive, making it impossible to stop spooning it up!
And wait, there's more! Hidden at the bottom of the pot were chewy udon noodles. Enjoying them with the tangy kkakdugi side dish perfectly balanced any richness.
Of course, no gopchang jeongol experience is complete without fried rice at the end! After we'd enjoyed most of the stew, the owner personally came over to prepare the fried rice for us. It was hands down one of the most memorable fried rice dishes I've had recently. Seriously, you HAVE to add the fried rice – it's an absolute must-try!
