Hapjeong Restaurant
The Giwa

I recently made my second visit to The Giwa Hapjeong (더기와 합정점), a fantastic Korean dining pub near Hapjeong Station (합정역) that’s perfect for a quiet drink or a delicious meal.
My first visit left a lasting impression with their amazing Bossam (보쌈), so naturally, I had to order it again. This place truly lives up to its name, with an interior design that feels like a traditional Korean 'giwa' (tiled roof) house has been transported right into the city. Plus, with such a vast menu, choosing what to eat is half the fun!
In this review, I'll cover The Giwa Hapjeong's location, operating hours, interior ambiance, private room configurations, and my personal experience with the dishes I tried.

Interior Ambiance |
The moment you step inside, the traditional Korean tiled roof, vintage wooden elements, and ceramic decor create an immediate "Korean dining pub" atmosphere.
✔️ 1st Floor: Features a spacious terrace and hall, reminiscent of the beautiful Deoksugung Stone Wall Walk.

✔️ 2nd Floor: A cozy space adorned with traditional rafters and ceramic pendant lights.

✔️ 2nd Floor Terrace: Offers seating with lovely views of the Hapjeong neighborhood at night.
We chose a spot on the 2nd-floor terrace, and the night view was surprisingly beautiful, making it a great choice for a date or a special outing.

This establishment also boasts a total of 5 private rooms. Although I was seated on the terrace, I managed to snap a few photos when a room was empty.

With one 6-seater, three 8-seaters, and one 10-seater room, it's a popular choice for small gatherings or end-of-year parties. It also looked absolutely perfect for intimate celebrations like engagement parties.
Menu |
The menu is divided into lunch and dinner, offering an incredibly extensive selection.
✔️ Lunch: Features seasonal side dishes and soup, served as a set meal. Warm 'sotbap' (stone pot rice) can be added.

✔️ Dinner: Over 30 varieties of appetizers and main dishes.

From classic appetizers like Dakjeon (chicken pancake), Suyuk (boiled pork slices), Kalbibimyeon (spicy cold noodles), Tongsamgyeop Kimchijeon (whole pork belly kimchi pancake), Mille-feuille Nabe (hot pot), and Cheese Gamjachaeyeon (cheese potato pancake), to more elaborate dishes like Korean Beef Jeongol (hot pot) and Kkotge Jjamppongtang (spicy crab noodle soup), the range is impressive.

Seriously, for a dining pub, their Bossam is a real game-changer!
This time, we ordered the classic Bossam and the Cheese Gamjachaeyeon (cheese potato pancake). The Bossam was incredibly tender and clean-tasting. Last time, I tried the Garlic Bossam, and the subtle garlic aroma made it absolutely delicious!

The Cheese Gamjachaeyeon we ordered alongside it was topped with cheese, offering a delightful combination of savory crispiness and rich cheesy flavor.

When it comes to drinks, the Makgeolli selection is particularly diverse. Besides the popular Green Tea Makgeolli (말차막걸리), they also offer unique options like Misutgaru Makgeolli (roasted grain powder), Ube Makgeolli, Tiramisu Makgeolli, and even Macaron Makgeolli.
I'm definitely curious to try them all!

Overall Impression |
Having been thoroughly satisfied on both my visits, I highly recommend The Giwa Hapjeong for anyone looking for a quiet meal or a small gathering spot in Hapjeong.
If you're seeking a private setting for a meeting, a romantic date, or a first encounter, this place is definitely worth checking out!
