The Hantangang River World Geopark Center
opened in 2019,
and perhaps because it opened during the pandemic era,
the facilities are spotless
and incredibly well-maintained.
It's located near Bidulginang Waterfall,
so you can explore Bidulginang first,
then pop over to the Geopark Center for a visit.
There's also the Bidulginang Campground (quite affordable!),
making it a fantastic spot for camping.
We've actually visited at least three times!
While we couldn't go during the peak of the pandemic,
we've been coming back regularly ever since it first opened.
This time, it was our first visit in a while
since the pandemic era.

Geological & Ecological Experience Hall
This time, we couldn't go in because it was past closing time.
There's a height restriction for children.
Through a fun fishing game,
you can learn about fish designated as Natural Monuments,
play with magnets,
and generally discover and learn while playing!
It's set up a bit like a kids' cafe.
Canyon Escape 4D Ride Theater
(Video runtime: approx. 7 minutes)
The showtimes are fixed,
so you'll need to check them in advance and make a reservation
before you can enjoy the experience.
Every time we visit, we *always* watch the 4D video, haha!
The seats and wind effects here are perfectly synchronized with the story,
making it incredibly fun!

The Geology Hall
Step into the Geology Hall to discover the incredible history of the Hantangang River!
You'll explore everything from the granite bedrock that formed before the Hantangang lava erupted,
to the fascinating process of how the river itself came into being,
and the stunning geological features formed by volcanic activity,
like basalt and those majestic columnar joints – it's all here to inspire your inner explorer!
A video starts playing right from the entrance, and with the soaring high ceilings,
it truly creates a grand and awe-inspiring atmosphere!
If you eagerly press these two red buttons (heat and pressure) back and forth,
smoke billows out, giving you the exciting illusion of a volcanic eruption!
My kids, however, don't even bother saying it's boring anymore ;;; (guess they've seen it too many times!)
Beyond that, you'll find all sorts of Hantangang River's geological wonders on display,
including fascinating basalt rocks formed by ancient volcanic activity.
You can even pick up and hold magnetite yourself!
Just stand on the 'Video Start' spot marked on the floor,
and a fascinating video will begin!
It reveals the incredible story of how the Hantangang River came to be.

Geological Culture Center
Here, amidst the lava plateau and the Hantangang River gorge,
from the Paleolithic era
to the Hantangang River, which was the premier scenic spot during the Joseon Dynasty,
and even the 'Yeongpyeong Palgyeong' (Eight Scenic Views of Yeongpyeong),
you can truly experience the history and culture of Hantangang!

Head up to the second floor, and you'll find Geological Culture Center 2!
You can watch a sand art performance depicting the stories of Gung Ye and the Hantangang River.
#Did you know there's also a statue of Gung Ye at Sanjeong Lake?
#And there's content related to Myeongseongsan Mountain too.
In the corridor leading to the Geopark Hall on the opposite side,
models from creative fairy tales were on display.
These are creative storybooks made by teachers and students,
and it seemed like they were actually for sale!
The models were so intricately and beautifully made.
These are the characters you see at the entrance to the Hantan River Geopark,
so they felt really familiar and friendly.

They say it currently showcases the nature and ecology associated with the Hantan River.
Here, you can also explore and learn about geology.
There are also ecological guidebooks displayed about the Hantan River area.
Otters appeared in the 4D video too, so they felt quite familiar.
The otter's upper body was displayed in 3D, making it look incredibly real from a distance.
And yes, I gave the otter's head a little pat!

We explored so many different types of rocks in this expansive space!
The kids especially remembered the basalt, which was cool!

The Hantangang UNESCO Global Geopark Center operates from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the last admission at 5:30 PM. Please note that the center is closed every Tuesday.
Both admission and parking at the Hantangang UNESCO Global Geopark Center are free. For group visits, advance reservations are required, so please inquire beforehand.
The 'Canyon Escape 4D Riding Video' has fixed screening times, so please check and make a reservation in advance. The video is approximately 7 minutes long, and the chairs and wind effects are well-adjusted to the story, making it an enjoyable experience.
Yes, the Hantangang UNESCO Global Geopark Center is located near Bidulginang Falls, making it a great place to visit after exploring the falls. Additionally, there's an affordable Bidulginang Campsite nearby, and Herb Island is right next door, allowing for a combined visit.
Children can learn about and enjoy natural monument fish through fishing and magnet games at the Geological Ecology Experience Hall. Separate experiential programs are offered on weekends, and children can also try coloring stone age paintings in the special exhibition room.
