Stroll along Daejeon's Hakhadong Starry Bridge this June! Discover beautiful flower paths, scenic riverside walks, and local charm. Perfect for a relaxing day out.
In early June, right at the beginning of summer, I visited
and I'm excited to share my review of the flower path walk at Byeolbitgyo Bridge in Hakha-dong, Daejeon.
This spot, renowned as a 'Golden-Wave Coreopsis paradise,'
is famous for its flower paths that turn a vibrant yellow
from late May to early June.
I usually make it a point to visit around this time every year.
But this year, I dropped by a little later than usual.
Unfortunately, most of the Golden-Wave Coreopsis had already faded,
but instead, the beautiful cornflowers were in full bloom!

With the stream and well-maintained walking paths around it, it's a beloved spot, especially as a walking course for local residents.

Date of Visit: 2025.6.6
Golden-Wave Coreopsis is often called the 'Summer Cosmos'
and is a charming wild flower that beautifully heralds the arrival of summer.
With its eight petals,
it's a stunning golden-yellow flower.
Its petal shape
is said to resemble the crest of a Golden Pheasant (金鷄),
which is how it got its Korean name, Geumgyeguk.

The flower meaning for Golden-Wave Coreopsis is 'Refreshing Feeling,'
and true to its name, this walk along the path left me feeling completely refreshed and joyful.

Actually, from late May, this place truly transforms into a spectacular scene as the Golden-Wave Coreopsis blossoms in vibrant yellow.
Both sides of the walking path along Hwasancheon Stream are painted yellow,
creating a scene like a magnificent golden carpet.
It's truly impossible to resist taking countless photos! 😉

I walked from O2 2nd Apartment, across Byeolbitgyo Bridge, all the way to Geoncheon Bridge.
But don't worry, even the paths I didn't get to explore,
both upstream and downstream
along Hwasancheon Stream,
were bursting with Golden-Wave Coreopsis in full bloom,
making it a beautiful sight wherever you stroll!

You don't necessarily have to focus on Byeolbitgyo Bridge itself;
you can discover the beautiful Golden-Wave Coreopsis blooming almost anywhere
throughout the Hwasancheon Stream area.

At the time of my visit (2025.6.6), I noticed that
about 30% of the Golden-Wave Coreopsis flowers had already fallen.
A significant number of them had already lost their vibrant petals,
with only the seed pods remaining.

Though I visited a little late and
missed the spectacular scenery
of their full bloom,
the golden waves were still
providing a beautiful sight.
The Coreopsis are slowly reaching the end of their season, so
please keep this in mind if you're planning a visit next year.

Even though the yellow Coreopsis were fading,
Cornflowers were blooming vibrantly right beside them.
The blue Cornflowers,
bathed in sunlight, had such a mysterious presence
that they instantly captivated my gaze.

Alongside the Coreopsis and Cornflowers,
you could also spot 'Egg Flowers' (Daisy Fleabane) blooming here and there.

Their untamed, wild growth
actually made me feel the authentic charm of nature even more deeply.

The Hwasancheon stream flowing through here
boasts incredibly clear waters.
The pristine water flowing down from the nearby Gyeryongsan foothills
forms this stream, making it a perfect spot for families to enjoy some **water play**.

I visited early in the morning, so there weren't any children around,
but it usually buzzes with kids later in the day.
The stream is home to quite a few **fish**,
making it ideal for urban families to enjoy a refreshing day out by the water.

Although the day of my visit was a bit cloudy,
on a clear day with bright sunshine,
the golden glow of the Coreopsis
sparkles even more brilliantly,
creating a path that looks as if it's paved with scattered gold.

If you're in the vicinity,
I highly recommend combining your visit with a stroll around Gyeryongsan Mountain.
From flower-lined paths to forest trails, it'll be a truly healing experience.

Unfortunately, I missed the peak bloom
of the Coreopsis this year, but
with the Cornflowers still vibrant,
the yellow blossoms were nevertheless a delightful sight.

As I hope this charming little flower path, which I visit every year,
will bloom beautifully yellow again next year,
for those considering going right now:
if you're nearby, definitely stop by!
Otherwise, I recommend
keeping it in mind for
a visit next year.
