Searching for the ideal spot for a multi-generational family meal in Seoul? Our honest review of Songchu Gamagol Gwanghwamun reveals why it's a top choice for delicious galbi.

Hey there, global explorers!
I'm Dari-mom, and I love sharing my neighborhood's best eateries
while raising my little one.
This time, we had a grand family gathering of 15 people,
spanning three generations – from my 90-year-old grandmother
to elementary school-aged children.
When you have a family gathering with such diverse age groups,
there's so much to consider, isn't there?
From the menu and parking to finding the perfect seating!

Songchu Gamagol Gwanghwamun was definitely a place
I could confidently recommend for such a gathering.

And just so you know, this visit was entirely out of my own pocket!
I'm sharing my genuine experience, step by step.
Why Songchu Gamagol Gwanghwamun, you ask?

We chose this place because it had a private room big enough
to seat all 15 of us, and the staff cooked the meat for us.

When you have a wide range of ages at the table,
cooking the meat yourself can be surprisingly stressful.
Here, with the staff handling the grilling, everyone could simply relax and enjoy.

Side Dishes (Banchan)

Before the meat even arrived,
the banchan (side dishes) were brought out.
A beautiful spread was laid before us, from salads to various kinds of kimchi.

The beautifully presented side dishes
complemented the meat perfectly, making us reach for more again and again.
Hanwoo Yukhoe & Yuksashimi (Beef Tartare & Slices)

The yukhoe (beef tartare) and yuksashimi (beef slices)
were served together on one platter.
We dipped them in the sauce that came with sliced pear – simply divine!

The meat was incredibly tender,
even the kids loved it.
For adults, it was a delightful start,
light and satisfying.
Assorted Hanwoo (Korean Beef)

The first thing we ordered was
the Assorted Hanwoo.
It came with sirloin, tenderloin, and vegetables.

The staff meticulously
grilled it right at our table.
It melted in our mouths,
and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

The kids absolutely loved it too.
Thanks to the grilling service,
it was incredibly easy to eat.
Songchu Galbi and Neulpoom Gui

Next up was Songchu Galbi.
Each serving comes with four ribs.

It was perfectly marinated,
and again, the staff
grilled it to delicious perfection for us.

It was sweet, but not overly so.
These ribs melted
in our mouths.

Finally, we tried
the Neulpoom Gui.
This dish features a single,
impressive large rib.

This was also sweet and
melt-in-your-mouth tender,
allowing you to truly savor the taste
of charcoal-grilled ribs.
Finishing with Buckwheat Cold Noodles (Memil Mul Naengmyeon)

After enjoying all the meat,
we ordered Memil Mul Naengmyeon (buckwheat cold noodles)
to cleanse our palates.

Perhaps because it was buckwheat noodles,
it felt very light and comforting.
The broth was also mild,
making for a perfect end to the meal.
My Honest Review

There were three things I particularly loved:
First, they had private rooms, which allowed
all 15 of us to sit together comfortably.
Second, the staff grilled our meat from start
to finish.
Third, everyone from my 90-year-old grandmother
to the elementary school kids
enjoyed the delicious meal.
