Planning a staycation in Seoul? Read our review of Grand Hyatt Seoul's Namsan View rooms, parking tips, and how we hosted a surprise gender reveal party!
Hello! :) Gildong Cho here!
One of my closest friends since high school is pregnant!
So, I ended up helping to plan a gender reveal party.
They say you can find out the baby's gender accurately starting from week 16,
so we booked a staycation for the following weekend, week 17,
and started prepping for the party!
But as the party date approached...!
My friend scheduled a doctor's visit on Monday of week 17 (the exact week of the party)
which meant...
"Wait, doesn't that mean we can't prep beforehand...?!" Dun dun dun!
Luckily, on Monday, the doctor wrote down the gender on a card without the parents-to-be knowing,
and put it in an envelope to mail
to another friend who was helping coordinate the party.
So, we ordered a surprise box that we could prepare without knowing the gender beforehand, along with a diaper cake, balloons, helium, and other party supplies online.
After putting so much effort into ordering everything online,
on the day of the party, we loaded everything into the car and drove off to the hotel! haha
I'm so excited! Woohoo!

Since the check-in time for the Grand Hyatt Hotel is from 3:00 PM,
I parked my car at the hotel first (parking fee: ~$6),
met up with my friends for lunch at Nanpo,
and arrived back at the hotel right at 3:00 PM!
(We tried walking from Nanpo to the hotel
and almost melted in the blistering heat...
It's all uphill... Please, never walk this way... ^^)
We joined the waiting list and headed over to the waiting lounge,
where they had ice water, juices, and other drinks prepared like this.
The hotel also kept our luggage for us.
The wait took about 20 minutes!

Finally entering our room! Cue the home makeover theme song~~
We booked a Namsan View Standard Twin Room
and added an extra adult charge (~$39),
They were supposed to convert that sofa into a bed for the third person,
but since it was peak season and they were so busy, they said it wasn't ready yet.
They told us to let them know if we waited for a while and still didn't see anyone.

A coffee machine and six bottles of water.

Exploring and opening all the drawers!

Since this hotel gets a lot of international travelers,
it felt like they put a lot of effort into showcasing a very traditional Korean vibe.

The Grand Hyatt's signature jade-colored bathroom.

The shower head is really unique.
And since there were three of us, they provided three body towels.

The bath amenities at the Grand Hyatt Seoul are Balmain.
Plenty of towels, too.
I loved how they had those glass shelves on the right—it made it super convenient to lay out all our cosmetics!

Wow, look at this gorgeous, open view... It's so beautiful!
You really can't beat a Namsan view!

While my friends were having their own mini swimsuit fashion show,
I couldn't just sit still! I pulled out the party supplies I brought
and started decorating the window.

When our friend said she didn't have a swimsuit and asked to borrow one,
our excited mom-to-be packed a whole bunch for her haha!
Just watching them was so much fun.

I finally got to try out
the temporary tattoo stickers from mello that I bought at the Seoul Illustration Fair last time!
My friends absolutely loved them, which made me so proud ^^
One of my friends kept joking that she looked like a "tough rebel" now... haha, so cute!

After our swimsuit fashion show and unpacking,
we finally headed down to the outdoor pool around 4:30 PM.
It was absolutely packed...
Here are the outdoor pool operating hours:

Session 1: 7:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Session 2: 11:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Session 3: 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Session 4: 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM (No Kids, only from 7/26 to 8/18)
During peak season, you get one free entry per night,
while during the off-peak season, you can use both the indoor and outdoor pools
unlimited times!
We had no idea and thought it was open until 8:30 PM!
But since we had to prep for the party in the evening anyway,
we decided to just squeeze in a quick, fun hour of swimming! haha

Showing off our tattoos!
Aren't they seriously so cute and pretty...???
Another core memory unlocked! T_T
Also, the Grand Hyatt Seoul outdoor pool is surprisingly deep,
which my "mermaid" friends absolutely loved! haha
It was a short dip, but we had the absolute best time..!

We got hungry after that quick swim, so on the way back,
we grabbed some bread and coffee to-go from the hotel bakery...
They also had a selection of wines and gorgeous wedding cakes.
Probably for proposals! >< So sweet.

A quick shot of our pool wristbands before taking them off.

Once we got back to the room, we showered and started setting up for the party!
My friend who had never used helium before was having the time of her life haha.

I brought along the tablecloth we bought for their bridal shower,
and it was such a great decision! Hoho.
It feels like just yesterday we were celebrating your bridal shower,
and now you're already going to be a mom...!

Ta-da! After some hustling, we are all set! 🤍
Since we didn't know the baby's gender yet when ordering,
we decided on a lovely yellow diaper cake! haha

I even got my nails done specifically for the gender reveal!
How do they look? 😎

As we set up for the party, the sun began to set,
and each moment was so beautiful that I couldn't stop snapping photos! 🥺
Pboyong... so incredibly cute!
And then, it was time for the big gender reveal party!
Will Baby Pboyong be... ~~~~!!!
A baby girl or a baby boy?!

Ta-da! Baby Pboyong is a baby girl! 💖
Yayyy! 👶🏻
Another friend who joined the party is also a girl-mom... I'm so jealous of you guys!
After a round of massive celebrations and photo sessions,

the Pipe Ground Corn Pizza we pre-ordered on Baemin,
along with Bonny's Pizza and Cheogajip Supreme Seasoned Chicken!
And some green grapes that Pboyong's mom packed from home, haha. So cute! 😂
Now, let the feast begin!

Wow, what a spread!
Every single thing was delicious... we ordered so well! 🤤
We actually planned to order the Yoyoi ice cream (recommended by influencer Chommy),
but we were so full we couldn't fit another bite. Next time for sure! 🥲

This is Golden Gobi Chocolate, a Mongolian chocolate from my friend's husband.
Why is this so incredibly delicious?! 🍒
And how do we wrap up a party?
By inhaling helium! ~~~
Pboyong's mom sat this one out just in case,
but the rest of us inhaled it, talked, and laughed our heads off.
Before calling it a night so we could wake up
for breakfast the next morning! haha 💤

Woke up half-asleep but successfully cleared the breakfast buffet! ❤️
Staying at a hotel really requires diligence... there's absolutely no time to rest!
Grand Hyatt Seoul's breakfast hours are
from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM,
and even though we rushed downstairs by 7:30 AM,
the line for the Terrace restaurant was already massive.
Since they told us the food selection was exactly the same,
we just ate at the lobby-side tables instead. haha

After breakfast, we came back up to lay down and scroll through our phones for about an hour.
Checkout was at 11:00 AM,
so we tidied up the room and headed out!

It was so much fun getting together after such a long time!!!
We definitely need a full 2 days and 1 night to catch up properly...
The only thing that's changed since our student days is our stamina! ❤️
I can't believe two of us are moms now...
I love it so much. I'll shower the babies with so much love, hehe!

And finally, a photo of us who can no longer
survive summer without our parasols, haha. ☂️
By the way, I figured out the ultimate secret to finding hot spots in Hannam-dong!
Just search for "Chommy Cafe" in Hannam-dong, and they pop right up.
Chommy's food recommendations never disappoint! ><
This staycation was so special and happy.
I want to go back already! ~!!!
