Gangjin Daseolgi Jeonju Review: Best Hangover Soup
Looking for the ultimate Korean comfort food? Read our review of Gangjin Daseolgi in Jeonju, serving a legendary, deeply revitalizing freshwater snail soup.
I've had this spot saved on my Google Maps for ages.
This is Gangjin Daseolgi, a legendary local favorite in Seoshin-dong, Jeonju! ‼️
With the scorching summer heat of 2026 in full swing, the Korean concept of "fighting heat with heat" (iyeol-chiyeol) has never felt more relevant.
During Chobok (the first hot day of summer), I ordered chicken noodle soup for delivery,
and it was an absolute disaster...
Determined not to make the same mistake for Jungbok (the mid-summer peak heat),
I set out to find the ultimate nourishing meal to restore my energy.
And that brought me straight to Gangjin Daseolgi in Seoshin-dong!

They originally started out in Innovation City,
but since relocating to Seoshin-dong,
the space is much larger,
allowing them to welcome even more hungry locals.
I kept seeing this place pop up on my social media feeds.
Every review was 100% authentic and self-paid,
and that deep, emerald-green broth looked incredibly rich.
I kept telling myself I had to go,
but as someone who rarely has reasons to visit Seoshin-dong...
I finally made the trip!

Gangjin Daseolgi Menu & Offerings

Their signature Daseolgi Sujebi Bantang (Hand-Pulled Dough Soup with Rice)
comes in two options: Original or Doenjang (Soybean Paste) broth.
They also serve snail pancakes, spicy sweet-and-sour snail salad, and concentrated extracts.
The soy-braised snails (daseolgi jangjorim) served as a side dish
are also sold in jars to-go.
It is the ultimate "rice thief" 🍚🍚🍚
There were plenty of regulars coming in while I was there.
Listening to them order, some asked for just the broth without the dough,
while others went straight for the savory Doenjang option.
Since it was my first visit, I decided to stick to the classic Original!
Despite the sweltering heat outside,
the restaurant was about two-thirds full,
with a steady stream of customers coming through the door.
Both the owner and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming.
(I've been to another famous snail soup spot near Nambu Market a few times,
but the hospitality there always left a bit to be desired.)
Because the place was so busy, I couldn't snap too many interior photos.
Daseolgi Sujebi Bantang Dining Experience

The moment the side dishes (banchan) hit the table,
I was reminded of Jeonju's legendary culinary generosity.
Both the rice and the roasted seaweed are refillable!
Wrapping a spoonful of rice and some soy-braised snails in a sheet of crispy seaweed...
It is an absolute delicacy.

The spread included two types of kimchi, seasoned radish, lotus root, perilla seed mushroom soup,
fish cakes, and soy-braised quail eggs.
You can refill any of these sides at the self-serve bar,
though eating solo meant I had more than enough with the first round.

I might have to ask my mom to recreate this soy-braised snail recipe...
(Yes, it was that good!)

The main event arrived bubbling hot in a traditional earthenware pot.
Packed with chives, zucchini, hot peppers,
and a generous portion of freshwater snails,
the hand-pulled dough (sujebi) was cooked to absolute chewy perfection.

Look at how deep and green that broth is!
One sip of this,
and it felt like a hangover from ten years ago was instantly cured...

I fully recharged my body for the summer heat and hopped in a cab back home.
Though Songcheon-dong and Seoshin-dong are close, they always feel so far apart...
It would have been perfect to hit a cute cafe afterward,
but I haven't found my go-to spot in Seoshin-dong yet.
