Hey there, fellow foodies and explorers! It's your favorite travel guide here-!
Today, I'm taking you to Euljiro—one of Seoul's coolest retro neighborhoods, affectionately known as "Hipjiro"!
My friend and I originally planned to hit up some hyper-famous spots nearby, but the waitlists were insane (we're talking over 100 to 200 groups ahead of us!). starving and exhausted, we decided to pivot.
That is how we stumbled upon the absolute gem that is "Eulji Baektan", and let me tell you, it was the best decision we made all day.

🐷 Who should visit Eulji Baektan?
✔︎ Anyone hunting for authentic Euljiro local favorites
✔︎ Travelers exploring the retro alleyways of Hipjiro
✔︎ Foodies craving life-changing, smoky bone-in pork ribs (Bbyeo-gui)
✔︎ Fans of perfectly chewy, icy-cold Kimchi Noodles
✔︎ Anyone looking for the most refreshing Lemon Draft Beer of their life 🍋
A quick warning for first-timers:
This place is the real deal. If this is your first time trying Korean bone-in pork ribs, it might ruin all other spots for you because the bar is set incredibly high!

As I mentioned, we originally tried going to other mega-hyped spots nearby like Sanx or Dalae-on-dae.
But with 245 teams waiting at Sanx and 104 teams at Dalae, we just couldn't do it. We put our name down at Dalae, but the line barely moved.
We noticed Eulji Baektan nearby had excellent local reviews. It had a waitlist too, but it looked manageable (about an hour), so we signed up.
The Verdict: Past-me, you made the absolute best choice by switching lines!
The Interior

Eulji Baektan has dining spaces on both the first and second floors.
It's a bustling local spot, so you can't choose your table; the staff will guide you to your assigned seat when your number is called.
The Menu

The menu focuses on two main stars: grilled bone-in pork ribs and cuttlefish.
Since everyone raves about the ribs, we ordered the Baektan Pork Ribs (Small). To complement the heat, we added Rice Balls, the legendary Cold Kimchi Noodles, and their famous Lemon Draft Beer—which we heard is practically a crime to skip!
Side Dishes (Banchan)

For sides, they serve up crisp radish kimchi, refreshing white kimchi, and a light cabbage salad.
They also provide bottled water, but honestly, once you take a sip of that Lemon Draft Beer, you won't even look at the water! haha.
Baektan Pork Ribs (Small)
~$26

The star of the show: Smoky Pork Ribs! 🔥
I’ve had bone-in pork ribs before at other places where even the "mild" option was painfully spicy, so I was a bit hesitant.
Thankfully, you can choose your spice level from 1 to 4 here. We went with Level 1, and oh my goodness... it was absolutely perfect. ✨

Because they are grilled over premium white charcoal, they are packed with a rich, smoky aroma.
The meat is incredibly tender and effortlessly slides off the bone.
The glaze is the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and a tiny kick of heat. I was instantly hooked! ✨️

The ribs are served with char-grilled green onions on the side.
Do yourself a favor and wrap the tender meat around those sweet, grilled onions. It makes the flavor ten times better!
Rice Balls
~$3

We ordered these rice balls to help cool down our palates just in case it was too spicy.
The portion size was incredibly generous, which we loved!

Since Level 1 wasn't spicy at all, we didn't strictly need them to fight the heat, but mixing the rice with that delicious sweet-savory rib sauce was out of this world.
Next time, I'll definitely bump the spice level up to 2 or 3 and pair it with these savory rice balls!
Cold Kimchi Noodles (Kimchi-mari Guksu)
~$7

We were debating between ordering potato pancakes or fried cuttlefish as our second side.
But while waiting in line, we noticed literally every single table had a bowl of these cold noodles. Local food blogs insisted it's a crime to leave without trying them.
So, we ordered them, and wow... the broth was incredibly refreshing and tangy, and the noodles were perfectly chewy.
It's the ultimate palate cleanser. Skip this, and you'll definitely regret it!
Lemon Draft Beer
~$4

I'm usually a strictly soda person, but since this place is legendary for its Lemon Draft Beer, we decided to give it a try.
It is sweet, zesty, and incredibly smooth.
It instantly became my absolute favorite beer of all time! 🍋

Q: I don't really like beer. Should I still get the Lemon Draft Beer?
➡️ Yes! I usually stick to soda when dining out, but this sweet, citrusy brew is a game-changer. You won't regret it! 🍋
