Finally, the long-awaited Dongdaejeon Library has opened its doors!
These days, libraries are no longer just places to borrow books,
but vibrant hubs for culture, learning, and experiences,
multifunctional cultural spaces where you can even relax and unwind.
They're truly transforming!
I visited myself and discovered that
it's perfect for families, with plenty of activities and play areas for kids,
making it a great place to visit together, and even adults can find it a wonderfully healing space.

Dongdaejeon Library is located in the heart of Dong-gu, Daejeon,
and its proximity to Daejeon Express Bus Terminal and Daejeon IC makes it easily accessible.
However, the library is situated a bit up an alley on a hillside.
When driving,
the narrow road combined with the uphill slope
requires careful driving.
(On the day I visited, a child on a kick scooter almost collided with a car coming down the hill.
There's also a lot of illegal parking in the area, making visibility difficult. It's absolutely crucial to drive slowly.)
If you search for 'Dongdaejeon Library' on your navigation system, it will guide you directly there.
2. Parking Information
For parking, you can use the library's underground parking lot.
The parking lot is quite narrow, making parking challenging.
I visited on a weekend, and
was able to park after waiting for a short while.
When I left later, I noticed a lot of cars were even parked sideways.
On the day of my visit (a weekend), free parking was available.
Right next to the library, there's also a small open-lot parking area,
but parking there is just as challenging.
You could also consider using the Sindo Kkomjilak Market parking lot nearby.
It's free on Sundays,
but operates as paid parking on weekdays.
You can purchase an 8-hour parking ticket from the library for ~$2.
3. Exterior View
As expected of a modern building, its exterior boasts a sleek and clean design.
In front of the library, there's also a small plaza and a rest area,
perfect for sitting down and relaxing for a bit.
4. Interior Guide (B1F~3F)
Dongdaejeon Library is thoughtfully designed, offering enriching spaces from B1F all the way to 3F.
Each floor has a distinct feel,
with different activities and learning opportunities,
ensuring everyone from children to adults will find something to enjoy.
B1F (Basement 1)
Auditorium / Sodam Room (Meeting Room) / Sangsangmaru (Imagination Lounge) / Chaeknaru (Automated Book Return Kiosk) / Parking Lot
On B1F, you'll find the parking lot and a multi-purpose hall.
Rest areas and simple convenience facilities are also provided.
As you exit the parking lot, on one side of the wall,
a screen projects an image,
where you can enjoy a simple digital touch game.
There's no dedicated staff overseeing it,
and anyone can freely use it.
From B1F to 3F,
the central area features a stair-like structure,
creating a vast and open hall with a beautiful rest area.
You can take off your shoes on one side
and freely use the space.
1F: Children & Family-Focused Space

The 1st floor is designed as a children and family-focused space,
Children's Library, Children's Workshop, Immersive Experience Room, etc.
It's absolutely packed with fun things to do!

The Children's Library is a dedicated space filled with children's books,
and since it's newly built, it feels overall
quite comfortable and tidy.
The seating and reading areas are specifically designed
to be kid-friendly.
However, it can get quite busy on weekends,
making it tricky to find a spot.
There's also a separate area exclusively for toddlers.
You can enter this space barefoot,
making it a safe place for kids to freely
run around or sit on the floor
and read books.
However, I was a little disappointed that there weren't as many books as I had hoped.
Some of the shelves (bookcases) even had noticeably empty spaces.
It seemed like popular genres
were quickly borrowed, often leaving shelves bare.
My kids, in particular, were quite disappointed there were no comic books.
(Popular titles like Heunhannammae and Takjujoko were missing.)

This is a space where experiences and play come together,
making it a particular favorite among children!

👉 Inside, it seemed like children weren't consistently following turns or waiting in line properly. Guardian accompaniment is essential.
Many children randomly intervened during games, which caused some inconvenience.
In the Immersive Experience Room,
digital touch-screen games, screen content, and more are freely available for use.
As it's a particularly popular experience,
children's order wasn't always properly maintained,
which made it a bit inconvenient.
There's also a designated area
on one side where you can relax.

This space offers crafts, drawing, block play, board games, and more,
catering specifically to elementary school students aged 8-13.
It's an exclusive area for children,
so parents cannot join them inside.

You're welcome to use the facilities freely,
though some special activity programs might require advance registration
or on-site sign-up.
Before diving in, you'll need to fill out a quick user log
at the desk.
And don't forget your library card when you visit!
This month, they had a fun cellophane suncatcher making program!
Beyond that, you're free to unleash your creativity with any craft activity that sparks your interest.
You can also dive into the world of assembly games like Lego, Multibee magnetic blocks, GraviTrax,
or challenge your friends and family to a board game!
Though some areas are typically just for kids,
there's a special dedicated family board game space!
So when it's game time,
the whole family can join in on the fun together.

It's easy to assume libraries are just about books, right?
But here, you'll discover a fantastic space where families can gather
to enjoy movies together!
The room is surprisingly spacious, I bet
even two families could comfortably use it at once.
Just a heads-up: on Saturdays and Sundays from 3 PM to 6 PM, it's reserved for one family at a time with an advance booking.
Equipped with a turntable, projector, and screen, it's perfect for a cinematic experience.
Plus, with a selection of LP records, you can even enjoy some classic tunes!

Right in front of the Teen Reference Room,

With a fantastic collection of DVDs and CDs across all genres,
you can pick your favorite movie to watch or simply unwind to some great tunes.

and you can enjoy it right here!

The library's overall design
features open spaces, not closed off by doors or walls, which makes it

Between the 3rd and 2nd floors,
next to the stairs,
there's also a designated relaxation area.
A large screen is installed on the front wall,
showing various videos.
It's a wonderful spot to read a book, enjoy some visuals, and take a moment for some healing.

As it's newly opened, it can get a bit crowded with many visitors on weekday afternoons and weekends. If you want to enjoy books at your leisure, we recommend visiting during morning hours.
✔️Utilize the Underground Parking Lot
While there's an underground parking lot available, it can fill up quickly on weekends. It's a good idea to also check nearby public parking lots for convenience.
✔️If You're With Kids, Head to the 1st Floor First!
There are many interactive spaces like the Children's Reference Room and various craft activities and games.
✔️For Light Refreshments, Visit the Book Cafe
Outside food is not permitted, so it's a great idea to use the book cafe inside the library. It's perfect for a simple cup of tea while enjoying your book.

With children's spaces perfect for family visits,
reference and study areas for youth and adults,
and even exhibition and experience zones where you can enjoy cultural activities!
I've come to realize that libraries are no longer just places to read books,
but vibrant multi-cultural spaces that everyone can enjoy.
Even kids now see the library not just as a place to read,
but as a fun place to visit and enjoy themselves! :)
