Discover Deul-ui Park in Daejeon, a breathtaking hidden gem where delicate fringetree blossoms transform the landscape into a snowy paradise each May. Perfect for a tranquil spring escape!
A hidden spring flower spot in Daejeon that I absolutely must visit every May.
Your Perfect May Getaway in Daejeon
It's none other than the Deureu Park Fringe Tree Flower Path.
The petals of the fringe trees look like soft, white snow has gently fallen,
and from afar, you might even mistake them for cherry blossoms,
but up close, their texture is even more delicate and exquisite.
This year, the fringe trees
bloomed a little later than last year,
but on May 6th, when I visited, they were in full, glorious bloom at 100% coverage,
and a beautiful 'flower rain' was gently falling.

What are Fringe Trees (Ipopnamu)?
Fringe trees are quintessential spring trees that typically bloom around mid-May.
The origin of their name comes from 'ibapnamu' (이밥나무),
and it's said that they were given this name because their white blossoms resemble a generous pile of white rice.

Their fluffy clusters of blossoms might look like cherry blossoms from a distance,
but up close, you'll see that their petals are longer and even more delicate.

At Deureu Park, these beautiful fringe trees line the path all the way from the entrance
to the side of the central forest walking trail,
creating the delightful sensation of walking under a canopy of white umbrellas.

Deureu Park Location Guide
📍 Deureu Park

Deureu Park, a renowned spot for fringe trees,
is a park located right next to the Civil Service Center of the Daejeon Government Complex.
True to its name, it's an urban green space where fields and forests blend harmoniously,
making it a wonderful place for a leisurely stroll.

Deureu Park Parking Information
Deureu Park doesn't have its own dedicated parking area.
You can park at the nearby Hanbat Arboretum and walk over, or
I usually visit during hours when parking enforcement isn't active,
and park on a nearby street, then walk a short distance to enjoy the park.

Fringe Tree Bloom Status at Deureu Park
Visited: 2025.05.06-07
During my visit (May 6-7),
all the fringe trees were in full bloom,
with some petals already starting to turn yellowish,
and a beautiful flower rain was actively falling.

Perhaps because it rained the day before,
the ground was covered with a thick carpet of fallen petals.
The petals are gradually changing from white to brown,
and hints of green are starting to appear,
but you should still be able to fully enjoy their beautiful white glow until the end of this week.

Deureuigongwon Park: A Haven of Fringe Trees

Even just passing by the park,
the enchanting white blossoms catching your eye
will naturally make you stop and explore.

Along the walking path that encircles the park,
Fringe trees line both sides,
providing welcome shade.
And as their delicate petals dance and scatter in the wind,
it truly felt like a moment of pure healing and tranquility.

Every time the breeze gently stirs,
and the petals softly flutter down,
it's like stepping right into a beautiful K-drama scene!

What's more, with every step I took,
a delicate fragrance wafted from the pristine white Fringe trees.
Wow, the scent was absolutely divine!
My nose was in pure bliss ♥

Amidst the lush green meadows,
the sight of the white Fringe trees
created a scene that was incredibly warm and beautiful.

I only intended to snap a few photos,
but I ended up lingering for over 30 minutes, completely captivated!
Even the kids absolutely loved this delightful walk.

A spacious lawn stretches out in the center of the park,
making it a popular spot for families with children,
picnickers,
dog walkers,
and couples on dates alike.

It was wonderful to see so many people
spreading out mats on the wide grassy plaza,
enjoying picnics with packed lunches.
This time, my visit was spontaneous,
but I've already promised the kids we'll definitely come back for a planned picnic next time! Haha.
✔️ Outside food is welcome,
so I highly recommend planning a leisurely picnic here!

The park isn't overly large,
so if you stroll along the flower-lined paths
for a relaxed, easy walk, 20-30 minutes is plenty.
However, my kids and I were so busy taking photos and playing
that over an hour flew by before we knew it! Hahahaha.

What's more, the walking paths are gentle and
well-maintained,
making them accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.

You'll find many benches dotted around,
perfect for taking a break when your legs get tired.
Plus, with photo zones located all over,
you're bound to snap a 'once-in-a-lifetime' shot no matter where you pose!

Under a shower of white blossoms in the city,
breathing in the delicate floral scent,
you can enjoy a leisurely stroll,
have a delightful picnic,
and experience true healing.
