Hi there! I'm Ciel, your friendly travel guide-!
If you're planning a quick day trip from Seoul, taking the KTX to Daejeon is one of the easiest and most scenic ways to travel.
Today, I'm sharing my experience exploring Daejeon Station, the heart of this vibrant city.

Daejeon Station Quick Facts
Opened: 1905
Nearby Attractions
Sungsimdang Bakery, Daejeon Central Market, Soje-dong Cafe Street, and more
📍 Location📍
📍 Daejeon Station (High-Speed Rail)
215 Jungang-ro, Dong-gu, Daejeon

🚆I highly recommend taking the KTX for a Daejeon day trip if you:
✔︎ Want to leave the car behind and enjoy a stress-free trip
✔︎ Have your heart set on visiting the famous Sungsimdang Bakery (perfect for grabbing pastries right before your train back! ‼️)
✔︎ Prefer the classic romance and comfort of train travel over express buses

Whether you are planning a legendary bakery pilgrimage ("ppang-ji-sun-rye") or heading to Daejeon O-World (which just reopened its doors in late May 2026 after a major renewal!), Daejeon is a fantastic destination.
If you're traveling without a car, you'll likely choose between the express bus and the high-speed KTX train.
For my recent day trip, I hopped on the KTX from Seoul Station to Daejeon Station, and here is a detailed look at what you can expect when you arrive.

Just like any major transit hub, you'll find clear electronic departure and arrival boards...

...as well as ticket booths and automated ticketing machines.
But Daejeon Station has a few unique perks that make it stand out from other stations.

For starters, the station features a highly useful Tourist Information Center.
If you're a spontaneous traveler (a "P" on the MBTI scale!) who arrives without a strict itinerary, or if you find yourself with an hour or two to spare before your train departs, this smart tourism information system is incredibly handy.
Not only does it recommend the best local spots, but it also provides step-by-step public transit routes to get you there!

You can also find a dedicated souvenir shop packed with adorable merchandise of Kumdori, Daejeon's iconic mascot!

The station is incredibly well-equipped, featuring a Lost & Found office, a Startup Lounge for business travelers...

...a pharmacy, and plenty of convenience stores and retail shops to browse while waiting for your train.
Daejeon Station Food & Dining

Daejeon Station is quite spacious and offers an array of dining options.
Because the restaurants and cafes are spread out, I recommend checking the commercial directory board map above to find exactly what you're craving.

As you can see, there's everything from quick local bites to classic Korean comfort foods.

And, of course, the crown jewel of Daejeon: Sungsimdang Bakery (Daejeon Station Branch).
When I passed by around 8:00 AM, there was only a moderate line, and grabbing bread was quick and easy.
However, by 6:00 PM, the queue was absolutely massive!
If you plan to buy some of their legendary Soboro bread before heading home, make sure to arrive at the station 30 to 60 minutes early just to stand in line.
Seeing the endless queue in the evening, I decided to skip it. I was so glad I did my browsing and buying in the morning!

✔︎ My Honest Review of Daejeon Station
I usually use West Daejeon (Seodaejeon) Station, so it had been a while since I last visited the main Daejeon Station. Honestly, my only vivid memory of it was Sungsimdang!
But walking around the station to write this post, I realized how clean, modern, and well-developed it has become.
There are tons of food options, and having a Sungsimdang branch right inside the station is incredibly convenient if you missed out on buying their famous Fried Soboro bread at the main downtown branch.
Best of all, as soon as you step out of the KTX gates, the Daejeon Subway line is right there, making it the perfect starting point for an effortless car-free adventure.
