If you're looking for a great place to visit with kids in Daejeon,

this is it!

The Daejeon Shinsegae Aquarium!

Compared to the large aquariums in Seoul,

this one might seem a bit smaller in scale.

But after visiting myself, I found it perfectly designed for young children,

with a compact route that's easy to navigate. Plus, it's packed with fantastic content,

from synchronized swimming to circus acts and interactive experiences – way more substantial than I expected!

Best of all, it's located on B1 of Daejeon Shinsegae Art & Science,

which means you can visit the aquarium, grab a meal, and even shop,

all in one building. Super convenient! :)

However, buying tickets on-site is more expensive.

If you purchase online in advance, you'll get a discount

and can enter directly by scanning a QR code.

So, definitely pre-book your tickets online!

1. Daejeon Shinsegae Aquarium Discount Hacks

When I visited, the on-site admission fees were

~$23 for adults and ~$20 for children.

Comparing that to online prices, there's quite a noticeable difference.

That's a difference of ~$4 per adult

and ~$3 per child, so for a family of four, the savings would be even greater.

And here's the clincher: QR direct entry!

When you pre-book, you'll receive a QR code via KakaoTalk,

so you can walk right in without queuing up to buy tickets on arrival.

While it might not matter much on weekdays,

it's incredibly convenient on crowded days like weekends!

2. Daejeon Expo Aquarium Show Schedule

This was my first time at Daejeon Aquarium, and I was charmed

by the abundant floral decorations, giving it such a bright and beautiful atmosphere.

It even feels romantic enough for a date! 😄

Plus, it's not just about watching fish; there are so many engaging little experiences that made it surprisingly fun.

There are stamp stations scattered throughout,

making it fun to seek them out one by one.

You can also spot robot fish and electric eels!

(Super fascinating!)

They were swimming so actively that

I stood there watching them for quite a while, haha.

What I was most looking forward to were the performances!

When I visited a few days ago, the Synchronized Swimming performance was themed around Aladdin.

It's a show that unfolds underwater, and the kids couldn't take their eyes off it.

Lasting about 10-15 minutes, it kept the little ones from getting bored, and afterwards, you could even take photos with the synchronized swimming team!

And clowns are super popular these days, right? Haha.

The circus, featuring the 'Daeppi' (meaning Daejeon Pierrot) performer, was also about 10 minutes long, and the moment he rode the unicycle,

even I found myself completely captivated, haha.

I was really disappointed I missed the feeding show because the timing didn't work out.

If I go again, I'd definitely plan my visit around the performance schedule first.

There are also paid experiences like the carousel for one person (~$4),

fish feeding (1 capsule, ~$1), and DIY aquarium making (~$13), among others.

Plus, there are free activities like origami and curly paper crafting,

so if you're coming with young children, I recommend setting aside a generous 1 hour and 30 minutes!

3. Daejeon Shinsegae Parking Hacks

If you're coming by car, make sure to note this!

Aquarium visitors get 2 hours of free parking.

After that, ~$1 will be charged every 10 minutes,

and you can extend your free parking time

based on your department store purchases.

Over ~$36: 2 hours

Over ~$73: 3 hours

Over ~$146: 4 hours

Over ~$219: 5 hours

And one thing I absolutely loved was

the fact that same-day re-entry is possible!

If you get a stamp on the back of your hand or wrist when you exit,

you can come back in, which means

if there's an awkward gap before the next show,

you can grab a bite and do some shopping at the department store and then return.

Personally, I recommend getting the stamp on your wrist

instead of the back of your hand, just in case it washes off while you're washing up! 😉

a sweltering hot, or a chilly cold day.

For families with little ones who want to soak in dazzling shows and engaging experiences

without too much walking,

this place is an absolute must-visit!

While it might not be a colossal aquarium in terms of sheer size,

the ability to combine the aquarium, shows, experiences, Shinsegae shopping,

and dining all in one go was the definitive advantage

of Daejeon Shinsegae Aquarium.

It truly was the ultimate perk! :)

Especially if you're planning a weekend visit,

instead of paying the full on-site price

and waiting in a long ticket queue,

I highly recommend purchasing discounted tickets online beforehand

and entering with your QR code!
