Daejeon's Lush Green Escape
Barley Field ❌ Wheat Field ⭕
I recently visited
Sungsimdang's very own Korean wheat field.
Did you know that Sungsimdang,
the pride of Daejeon,
now even grows its own wheat to bake its delicious bread?
Last year, I visited when Sungsimdang's wheat field was golden yellow,
when it was ripe.
But this time, I was curious about the lush green scenery
that can only be seen at this time of year,
so I went before it transformed into its golden hue.
A perfect spot for a light, healing stroll,
let me introduce you to Sungsimdang's vibrant green wheat field.
The path to get there can be a little tricky,
so I'll guide you carefully, step by step.

Sungsimdang Wheat Field
Currently, it is filled with vibrant green wheat.

In just a few days,
the wheat will gradually ripen to a golden yellow,
revealing a completely different ambiance.
I plan to visit again then
to capture the golden Sungsimdang Wheat Field as well :)

2. What is Sungsimdang Wheat Field?
The Sungsimdang Wheat Field
was created to cultivate the Korean wheat
used by Sungsimdang for their renowned baked goods.

Last year, the wheat cultivated here
was proudly used to launch Sungsimdang's very own 'Our Wheat Bread' (Uri-mil Bread).

Currently,
the vibrant green wheat field stretches out widely,
creating an atmosphere straight out of a movie scene.

Especially when the wheat's color is at its most beautiful,
like now, a visit will immerse you in an impressively fresh green landscape.

Every time the wind blows,
the wheat sways like waves,
a truly beautiful sight.
Simply walking through it
creates a wonderfully healing atmosphere.

This year too,
I'm already looking forward to the delicious bread that will be made from the carefully cultivated wheat here!

📍 From the main road side
→ No entry

Use the alleyways around Gyochon Elementary School
Since it's not a famous tourist spot,
there isn't a dedicated parking lot.
You'll need to park in the alleyways near
Gyochon Elementary School before visiting.
🚍 Public Transportation
You can take buses 211 / 212 / 704 / Village Bus 3.
After getting off at J-Park Apartments,
it's about a 10-minute walk.

4. Why I Recommend It as a Solo Travel Spot
The Seongsimdang Wheat Field isn't
a bustling tourist spot.

Instead, it's more like a place where you can
quietly walk, listen to the wind,
gaze at the green scenery, and simply zone out.
That's why it was actually
perfect for a leisurely solo walk.

It's wonderful to walk with earphones in,
listening to music, or just bring a camera
and enjoy a photo-taking stroll.

Especially
when the wind blows,
seeing the green wheat sway was incredibly
healing, even just by watching.

4. My Actual Walking Route (How to Get There)
How to Get There & Route |
Gyochon Elementary School Back Gate Parking → Seongsimdang Sign Photo Zone → Green Wheat Field Walking Path |
From the back gate of Gyochon Elementary School
to the Seongsimdang Wheat Field,
there are no separate signs.
Please follow along with the photos.

Exit through the back gate of Gyochon Elementary School (parking area)
and walk along the road.

After walking a short distance, you'll come to a fork in the road.
From here, walk a little further to the right (on the unpaved path),
and then...

You'll see a blue barrel + a greenhouse.
The Seongsimdang Wheat Field is right in front of it.
Last year, the accessible
roadside entrance
is now off-limits.
You can only enter through the back gate of GyoChon Elementary School.

Since it's not a designated tourist spot,
you won't find specially designated paths
for sightseeing.

Along the narrow paths winding through the wheat fields,
you'll need to explore carefully.
Taking my time, snapping photos as I went,
about 30 minutes
was perfect for a leisurely stroll.

5. Top Photo Spots & My Takeaway
Best Photo Spots | |
Sungsimdang Sign | The iconic spot for your proof-of-visit shot |
The Green Wheat Wave Section | Recommend burst shots when the wind blows / Capturing video here creates a truly magical vibe. |
As soon as you step inside,
you'll immediately spot the Sungsimdang sign!

Here,
you absolutely *must* snap a photo – it's
the quintessential photo op!

Within the wheat fields themselves,
you won't find any manicured walking paths.

You can wander and explore along the narrow tracks that form organically between the wheat stalks,
moving carefully as you go.
This means, unlike a typical tourist attraction,
you'll get to experience a truly natural and wild
wheat field.

Heads up: the wheat leaves are surprisingly prickly,
and the grass can be quite lush,
so long pants are definitely recommended over shorts.
Sneakers and long pants are your best bet!

The absolute biggest charm of this place is undoubtedly
the endlessly sprawling tapestry of green.
From a distance, it might look like a barley field,
but up close,
you'll feel the soft, unique texture of wheat.

Especially when the wind whispers through,
the emerald hues ripple like waves,
creating a truly mesmerizing sight.
It's truly the perfect spot for a light, refreshing, and healing stroll!

If you visit around sunset,
as the golden hour light softens,
the vibrant green hues
are captured even more beautifully in your photos.
Instead of the harsh midday sun,
I highly recommend visiting in the late afternoon!
