Seongsimdang Cake Boutique Daejeon 2026: Roll Cakes & Buying Tips

Daejeon (대전) is famous for its iconic bakery, Seongsimdang (성심당). But did you know Seongsimdang isn't just one big store? It actually operates several specialized branches, including a main bakery for various breads, the Seongsimdang Cake Boutique (성심당 케익부띠끄) for delightful roll cakes, the Siru Specialty Store (시루전문점) for Siru cakes, and the Sandwich Station (샌드위치정거장) for fresh sandwiches.

Today, we're diving into the Seongsimdang Cake Boutique to share my experience buying their famous roll cakes. I'll cover everything you need to know: roll cake prices, available types, storage tips, shelf life, and those crucial purchase limits!

1. Seongsimdang Cake Boutique Locations & Hours

The Main Branch operates in its own separate building. If you visit the Lotte Department Store (롯데백화점) branch, you'll find their general bakery items on the 1st floor, while the Siru cakes and Cake Boutique are located on the basement level (B1).

Operating hours for the Lotte Department Store branch are from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily.

I personally visited the Lotte Department Store branch for my roll cake haul!

I arrived around 11:00 AM on a Saturday weekend and was able to purchase my roll cake without waiting in line. What's crazy is that it sold out right after I bought mine! To ensure you get your hands on Seongsimdang's famous roll cakes on a weekend, it definitely seems best to visit in the morning. Aim for before 10:00 AM if you want the best selection!

2. Roll Cake Varieties & Purchase Limits

📌 Seongsimdang Roll Cake Varieties:

* Pure Roll (순수롤)

* Yogurt Roll (요거트롤)

* Matcha Roll (말차롤)

* Tiramisu Roll (티라미수롤)

* Mango Roll (망고롤)

* Saenggyul Roll (생귤롤)

* Chestnut Roll (알밤롤)

* Fig Roll (무화과롤)

* Strawberry Yogurt Roll (딸기요거롤)

As of the current autumn season in October 2026, popular seasonal offerings include the Chestnut Roll, Fig Roll, and Yogurt Peach Roll (요거피치롤)!

The **Pure Roll (순수롤)** costs ₩14,000 (~$11).

This roll cake is incredibly soft with a cream that isn't overly rich, making it a crowd favorite. There's a purchase limit of 3 per person for the Pure Roll. You can also buy a cooler bag that fits up to three roll cakes for an additional ₩2,500 (~$2). It comes with an ice pack that keeps things cool for about 3-4 hours. If you're staying in Daejeon for longer, I highly recommend finding a place to refrigerate them!

The **Chestnut Roll (알밤롤)** is priced at ₩19,000 (~$14).

Like the Fig Roll (무화과롤) and Yogurt Peach Roll (요거피치롤), the Chestnut Roll is a limited-edition seasonal item. When I visited, the Fig Roll, Yogi Roll (요키롤), and Yogurt Peach Roll were all unavailable. I'm not sure if they were sold out, not being offered that day, or if the Lotte branch simply has fewer varieties compared to the Main Branch.

Even the Chestnut Roll was almost gone by 11:00 AM, so I was lucky to grab one!

While you can buy up to three Pure Rolls per person per day, other seasonal rolls like the Fig Roll, Chestnut Roll, and Yogi Roll are limited to **one per person**.

It was quite shocking to see them sell out so quickly right before my eyes! Keep in mind that **Seongsimdang roll cakes have a very short shelf life of just 2 days**, so purchase thoughtfully.

I bought mine with the mindset that I'd just freeze any leftovers, just in case I couldn't finish them in time!

Besides roll cakes, they also offered other delightful treats like the Night Cake (떠먹는 밤케이크) and Ganache Fondant Cake (가나슈퐁당케이크). However, the Lotte Department Store branch did not sell individual slices of roll cake.

You'll also find other delicious pastries:

* Pure Madeleine (순수마들렌): ₩5,000 (~$4)

* Chocolate Madeleine (초코마들렌): ₩5,500 (~$4)

* Tigre (티그레): ₩3,300 (~$2)

The Seongsimdang Cake Boutique isn't just about roll cakes; they also sell Madeleines and Tigres. Personally, the Tigre was incredibly delicious, and I regret only buying one! 😥

3. My Roll Cake Review

Each roll cake comes with 6 slices and is incredibly, incredibly soft.

For the **Chestnut Roll (알밤롤)**, I found about 2-3 whole chestnuts embedded inside. The chestnut cream itself is delightfully savory and not too sweet, which made me personally enjoy it even more than the Pure Roll! If I visit again, I'd definitely prioritize buying more roll cakes, especially this one.

The **Pure Roll (순수롤)** also contains 6 slices and boasts a similarly smooth and soft texture.

Among the basic roll cakes I've tried, the Pure Roll's whipped cream and castella-like cake are exceptionally soft and truly delicious! Even with a generous amount of cream, it wasn't overly rich, making it easy to enjoy multiple slices. I imagine kids would absolutely love this flavor.

However... after exactly 2 days, the whipped cream did firm up, and a slightly greasy taste started to emerge. 😭

→ If you don't think you'll finish the roll cake within a day of purchase, I highly recommend portioning it out, wrapping individual slices in parchment paper, and freezing them for later!

(I still have some leftover roll cake in my freezer, by the way!)
