A day trip to Daejeon (대전) is perfect, especially with the lovely weather we've been having recently in 2026. And no trip to Daejeon is complete without a stop at the legendary Seongsimdang (성심당) Bakery!
I'm excited to share my recent visit to the Seongsimdang Lotte Department Store (롯데백화점) branch. I'll cover the best Seongsimdang bread recommendations, a comprehensive list of bread types, and their prices, along with essential tips for navigating the queues!
1. Seongsimdang Daejeon Opening Hours & Locations

📌 Seongsimdang Daejeon Locations
· Seongsimdang Main Branch (본점)
· Seongsimdang Lotte Department Store (롯데백화점)
· Seongsimdang DCC (대전컨벤션센터) Branch
· Seongsimdang Daejeon Station (대전역) Branch
There are four main Seongsimdang locations in Daejeon, with the Main Branch and the Lotte Department Store branch typically drawing the biggest crowds.
Most Seongsimdang branches open at 8:00 AM, though you'll often see queues forming at the Main Branch as early as 7:00 AM. They usually operate until 10:00 PM. I've heard that weekday afternoons or Sunday afternoons at the Main Branch might even have no waiting lines!
Keep in mind that Seongsimdang also has specialized shops like the Cake Boutique (케익부띠끄), Siru (시루) specialty store, and the Sandwich Station (샌드위치정거장), each offering different selections.

Since I heard the Main Branch can be incredibly crowded (especially the lines for Siru and the Cake Boutique), I decided to aim for the Lotte Department Store branch from the start!
📌 Weekend Saturday Waiting Experience
Around 11:00 AM on a Saturday, I first headed to the Cake Boutique on the basement level of the Lotte Department Store. I got in right away with no waiting and made my purchase instantly.
However, the main bread section and Sandwich Station on the first floor required a 1-hour wait. It was quite the ordeal!
2. Seongsimdang Daejeon Bread Recommendations

📌 2026 Hall of Fame
Almond Croissant
Sunflower (해바라기)
Banhallbeon (반할번)
Bomunsan Meari (보문산메아리)
Myeongran Baguette (명란바게트)
Shrimp Roll Octopus (새우롤 낙지)
Noah Raisin (노아레즌)
Apple Brie Cheese (애플브리치즈)
Daejeon Blues Manju (대전부르스만주)
These seemed to be the most frequently sold and popular breads.
(The Bomunsan Meari feels like it's especially popular with an older crowd.)

Myeongran Baguette (명란바게트) ₩3,800 (~$3)
The Myeongran Baguette is incredibly popular! They bring out many at once, they sell out quickly, and then they're replenished in a flash. If you ask at the counter after payment, they'll even cut it into bite-sized pieces for you.

Matcha Croissant (말차크로아상) ₩6,200 (~$5)
Sunflower (해바라기) (Leaf Pizza Bread) ₩2,000 (~$2)
The Matcha Croissant seemed to be a hit with the younger crowd. While most breads were quite affordable, the Matcha Croissant was a bit pricier.
3. Bread Varieties

My Name is Yuja (내이름은 유자) ₩3,500 (~$3)
French Pie (후렌치파이) ₩2,000 (~$2)
Cream Stick (크림스틱) ₩3,500 (~$3)
Rye Sourdough Bread (호밀사워브레드) ₩7,000 (~$5)
Ham Cheese Croissant (햄치즈크로아상) ₩3,500 (~$3)
There were also plenty of healthy bread options, and the Lotte Department Store branch had a surprisingly wide variety of breads.
❗ At this branch, you can enter and choose your breads without waiting in line. The only wait is when you get to the cashier to pay.

No matter how many items you plan to buy, make sure to grab a bread cart (빵빵카트) as soon as you enter! The bread trays get heavy surprisingly fast, and standing in line for an hour holding a heavy tray felt like a real workout. My friend and I joked about it being like 'Physical 100'!
Ggaedubangjeong (깨두방정) ₩3,000 (~$2)
Black Sugar Steamed Bun (흑당찐빵) ₩3,000 (~$2)
Choux Cream Bread (슈크림빵) ₩2,000 (~$2)
Red Bean Bun (단팥빵) ₩1,700 (~$1)
Chocolate Butter Baguette (초코버터바게트) ₩5,000 (~$4)

Truffle Salt Bagel (트러플소금베이글) ₩3,000 (~$2)
Pain au Lait (팡오레) ₩2,000 (~$2)
Kouign-amann (퀸아망) ₩3,300 (~$2)
Milk Berry Pie (밀크베리파이) ₩3,800 (~$3)

Caramel Pecan Twist Donut (캬라멜피칸꽈배기) ₩3,800 (~$3)
Black Hole Donut (블랙홀도넛) ₩1,500 (~$1)
598 Hot Dog (598핫도그) ₩1,000 (~$1)
Fresh Donut (생도나쓰) ₩1,700 (~$1)
Glutinous Rice Donut (찹쌀도넛) ₩1,500 (~$1)
Chewy Shrimp Ball (쫀득새우볼) ₩1,800 (~$1)
Notably, the croquettes and Fried Soboro (튀김소보로) are located along the path to the cash registers. The Kimchi Glutinous Rice Jumeokbap (김치찹쌀주먹밥) takes some time to prepare, so you'll need to wait in line for that one.
You don't actually need to wait in the main line for Fried Soboro or croquettes, but many people get confused and join the wrong queue. It's a common mistake!

I filled my cart with this much bread and even added some Fried Soboro. I truly regretted not grabbing any croquettes, but once you're in the thick of it, picking out bread can be overwhelming and the tray gets heavy. You just want to get out of there quickly!
→ Seriously, grab a bread cart as soon as you enter!
❗ The Lotte Department Store branch also has a Sandwich Station (샌드위치정거장) inside, so you can easily pick up items like the Apple Brie Sandwich without an extra wait.

Once I got home, I reheated the Myeongran Baguette in my air fryer for a few minutes.
The Myeongran (pollack roe) series at Seongsimdang Daejeon, including the Myeongran Baguette and Myeongran Salt Bread, is genuinely delicious! They aren't overly salty or fishy, offering a rich, savory flavor that you can enjoy without getting tired of it.

I also sliced and enjoyed the Chestnut Roll Cake (알밤롤케이크) I bought from the Cake Boutique.
All the effort of buying these treats on a day trip paid off, allowing us to have a wonderful bread feast on Sunday morning. Highly recommended!
I'll be sharing more reviews soon, including my experience with the Cake Boutique roll cakes, the Sandwich Station, and tips on using the bread storage lockers!
