Daejeon Seongsimdang (대전 성심당) is getting hotter and hotter by the day,
I actually visited the **Seongsimdang Main Branch (성심당 본점)** for the first time in almost 10 years, and even though I went on a **weekday, the immense waiting line** really made me realize just how popular Seongsimdang is.
But there were so many delicious bread options, and a wide variety of "tyuiso" (fried soboro bread) too, making it a very satisfying bread shopping experience – a review of my personal purchases!
From Daejeon Station (대전역) to Seongsimdang Main Branch

I went on a **day trip to Daejeon (대전)** and headed straight for the Seongsimdang Main Branch,
Get off at Daejeon Station and head towards the **Banseok-bound (반석행)** subway!

The Seongsimdang Main Branch is located at **Jungang-ro Station (중앙로역)**, just one subway stop from Daejeon Station.
From inside the subway to the underground shopping arcade, there are clear Seongsimdang signs everywhere, so you can easily follow them without any trouble!
📍 Seongsimdang Main Branch
15 Daejong-ro 480beon-gil, Jung-gu (중구), Daejeon Metropolitan City (대전광역시)
If you go above ground, head out through **Jungang-ro Station Exit 2**, and if you go underground, take **GATE 1**.
Seongsimdang appears right after you exit GATE 1, so if it's your **first time, I recommend going through the underground shopping arcade**!

Seongsimdang has several stores, so if you exit GATE 1, you'll first see the Cake Boutique,
and **one more block down is the Seongsimdang Main Branch**!
I visited around **2:30 PM on a weekday**, but even then, there was a long line outside the store...!
Apparently, the wait is even longer on days when there's a baseball game. On weekends, people sometimes wait for over two hours.

Fortunately, the line moved fairly quickly, so I was able to enter after waiting for about 15 minutes.
The interior was quite crowded, so..! I **recommend checking out the bread menu in advance** before you go.
It's a bit too chaotic to slowly browse and pick out each item.

First, upon entering, you'll find the relatively quieter **Seongsim Mill House (성심밀방앗간)** corner on your left.
This section sells **classic meal breads**, including healthy options like whole wheat and sourdough.

Healthy breads like stone-ground whole wheat bread and rye sourdough bread were very reasonably priced, but,
Seongsimdang has so many delicious breads that this section was comparatively quiet.
You can also snag the popular **Myeongnan Baguette** here!
Seongsimdang Bread Recommendations

If it's your first time, it's worth checking out Seongsimdang's officially recommended **2026 Hall of Fame Menu**.
Almond Croissant ₩3,500 (~$3)
Sunflower ₩2,000 (~$2)
Banhallbeon ₩2,500 (~$2)
Bomunsan Meari ₩6,000 (~$5)
Myeongnan Baguette ₩3,800 (~$3)
Shrimp Roll Nakji ₩3,000 (~$2)
Noah Raisin ₩7,000 (~$5)
Apple Brie Cheese ₩8,000 (~$6)
2026 Seongsimdang Hall of Fame
In particular, the **Bomunsan Meari** is a crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside pastry, similar to kouign-amann. It offers great value, and since it comes in a box, it's perfect as a gift, making it very popular.
Some people even bought two or three boxes at a time!

Seongsimdang (성심당) also boasts a huge variety of new menu items and seasonal specials. Since I’ve visited Seongsimdang many times, I also kept an eye out for the September Staff Recommended Menu.
Teaberry Bread (티베리 브레드)
Whole Wheat Buckwheat Kuron (통밀메밀쿠론)
Fruit Brot (후르츠 브롯)
French Fig (프렌치 무화과)
TOP 4 Seongsimdang Staff Recommended Menu for September

The two winning items from the 2026 Seongsimdang internal competition were Teaberry Bread and Choco Chalbbang (초코찰빵).
When I visited, the Choco Chalbbang had just come out of the oven and looked so delicious, so I grabbed one!
It was incredibly tasty, with a chewy chalbbang texture and a rich chocolate flavor!

Beyond that, there are so many other delicious-looking breads that it truly makes your head spin.
You can choose from an incredible variety of breads to suit your taste.
Passing by pastry-type breads like Pain au Chocolat (뺑오쇼콜라) and Ham & Cheese Croissant (햄치즈 크로와상), there was also the seasonal special, Fig Croissant (무화과 크로와상)! (This one uses the same figs as the Fig Siru (무화과 시루) — highly recommended!)

Crispy pastry breads resembling the nostalgic sausage bread, like Italian Salsiccia (이탈리안 살사차), Tiramisu Pie (티라미수 파이), Choco Butter Bread (초코 버터 브레드), and Real Melon (리얼메론),
—the delicious breads just keep coming!

For my husband, who loves nuts and chocolate, I debated between Cacao Sunjeong (카카오순정) and Walnut Bread (월넛브레드), and ultimately picked Cacao Sunjeong.
True to its name, it was intensely chocolatey, and my chocolate-loving husband was extremely satisfied, haha!

If the famous Bomunsan Meari (보문산 메아리) feels a bit too large, there's also the mini-sized Cinnamon Meari (시나몬 메아리)!

They also have classic Cream Bread (크림빵) and various bread loaves.
I initially picked up a Cream Bread, thinking it would be best eaten chilled right away, but later realized I couldn't manage it, so I put it back. 😅

At the Croquette Corner (고로케 코너), there were various types of croquettes and donuts, including Tuna Croquette (참치고로케), Curry Croquette (카레고로케), Mala Croquette (마라고로케), and Hall of Fame items like Shrimp Roll (새우롤) and Octopus (낙지).
There was a wide range of croquette and donut varieties.

Kimchi Sticky Rice Balls (김치찹쌀주먹밥) are also very popular, but they're not really my style, so I skipped them!

The Cheese Fondue and Almond Cream Bread also looked delicious..! Honestly, at this point, you'll start running out of space on your plate.
Sungsimdang (성심당) Twiso
But above all else, if you've come to Sungsimdang, the one bread you absolutely cannot miss is Fried Soboro (튀김 소보로), also known as Twiso!

The most classic and representative menu item, the Original Fried Soboro, is ₩1,700 (~$1)!
You absolutely have to grab this one,
and there are various other types, so I recommend trying one of each kind, depending on what's in stock at the store!

Right next to the Twiso, proudly holding its spot, is Pantalong Buchu-Ppang (판타롱 부추빵), which has been a steady menu item for a whopping 40 years!
I tried it the first time I went, and while the Buchu-Ppang is charming, the Twiso is overwhelmingly more delicious to my taste haha. So ever since then, I've only focused on the Twiso.
I heard the Choco Twiso (초코 튀소) was first released and tried twice to get it but failed (at the Daejeon Station (대전역점) branch and the DCC (DCC점) branch), but it was available today, so I quickly grabbed it!

Twiso is also sold in sets, for which a box fee of ₩1,000 (~$1) is added, and they're great for gifts!
This time, I wanted to try various types of Twiso, so I bought each one individually :)
These two generous plates together cost ₩47,000 (~$35)!
Isn't that an amazing value for money?

On weekends, it gets so crowded that there are separate lines just for the cashier, but since it was a weekday, I could pay right away, so I checked out quickly and left!

And just like that, I got my two precious Sungsimdang bread bags!
Nowadays, near Sungsimdang, there are also excellent Sungsimdang bread storage services, making it easy to store your bread in the fridge.
I've separately organized my review of the interesting bread storage service, so check it out for reference!
If you come to Daejeon (대전), make sure to try Sungsimdang's Twiso and other breads, the taste is definitely worth waiting for! :)
