we decided to visit a place where we could enjoy diverse indoor experiences and exhibitions:

the Daejeon Noeun-dong Prehistory Museum.

This place truly lets you feel what ancient Daejeon was like.

It was a truly unique experience, perhaps because you get to explore the prehistoric era right in the heart of the city.

It's also a fantastic educational spot, especially for kids, as it naturally introduces them to the lifestyle of Korea's prehistoric era.

The Prehistory Museum

In Daejeon, I had only ever thought of the Dunsan Prehistoric Site in Wolpyeong-dong,

so I was surprised to discover for the first time that there's also a Prehistory Museum in Noeun-dong!

From the parking lot, you'll need to walk through the park for about 3 minutes to reach the museum entrance.

Currently, the Noeun-dong Prehistory Museum is hosting a special exhibition in the Children's Experience Room called [The Secret of the Giant Stones: In Search of Dolmens].

It sounds like it would be a very special time if you visit with your children.

Looking at the exterior of the building, it appeared a bit old,

so, honestly, I wasn't expecting much inside.

However, upon entering the entrance,

I found the museum's interior to be incredibly clean and well-maintained,

making for a pleasant visit.

The Daejeon Prehistory Museum showcases the entire cultural landscape of Daejeon,

from the Paleolithic Age all the way through to the Three Kingdoms period, with exhibition rooms dedicated to each era.

The first floor houses a lounge area,

while the second floor features four exhibition rooms covering different prehistoric periods, along with a special exhibition room and a children's experience room.

The exhibition halls are thoughtfully divided by era,

making it easy to grasp the characteristics and culture of each period.

From Paleolithic hunting tools and Neolithic pottery to

Bronze Age weapons and Iron Age agricultural tools,

it was fascinating to observe the evolving lifestyles across different eras.

My child, for instance, could easily imagine what life was like for people in the past by looking at the Neolithic pit-house models.

The 1st-floor lounge area is freely accessible,

offering a space to read a book or simply take a break.

2F Permanent Exhibition Halls, Special Exhibition Room, Experience Room

The second floor is home to the permanent exhibition halls, the special exhibition room, and the children's experience room.

The permanent exhibition halls allow visitors to explore the prehistoric era, divided by period into the Paleolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, and Iron Age Culture Halls.

On the central floor of the 2nd-floor lobby, a large map of the Daejeon area was prominently displayed.

Here, you could see Daejeon's major historical sites and the status of prehistoric excavations in Daejeon, all at a glance.

Even the kids were so excited, exclaiming, "That was in our neighborhood too!"

To think there were so many historical sites we never knew about!

I'd love to explore them one by one, in order!

At the information desk on the 2nd-floor lobby,

be sure to grab the children's activity sheets and carefully explore the exhibits with them.

With cute and charming characters drawn on the activity sheets, the kids absolutely loved them,

and especially with the stickers included, they could enjoy exploring every nook and cranny.

Paleolithic Culture

The first area you'll encounter is the Paleolithic Culture exhibit,

a space where you can explore artifacts discovered at Paleolithic sites in Daejeon (such as Yoho-dong, Gujeuk-dong, and Gasuwon-dong).

After passing models depicting the process of human evolution,

you can explore the diverse aspects of Paleolithic culture.

Inside the cave models, you'll find murals and various tools,

and even interactive experiences like "Becoming a Paleolithic Human."

Through these diverse experiences, we were able to enjoy the exhibition in a captivating way.

Neolithic Culture

In the Neolithic Culture exhibit, you can explore artifacts discovered at the Dunsan-dong site,

and through dugout hut models, you can get a glimpse into Daejeon's cultural landscape during the Neolithic Age.

Here, it showcases the changes that occurred during the Neolithic Age, such as dugout hut models, agricultural life, pottery making, and stone tool crafting.

My child showed such interest, asking, “Mom, can we go into that house over there?”

so we just had to go inside!

It was fascinating to get a glimpse into how people lived during that era.

The Bronze Age Culture

In the Bronze Age Culture exhibit, artifacts discovered at Bronze Age sites across Daejeon, including Yongsan-dong, Sangdae-dong, Gwanjeo-dong, and Bokryong-dong, are proudly displayed.

There's a video corner where you can learn more about the Bronze Implement with Agricultural Scenes, a representative artifact of Daejeon.

It also explains Bronze Age culture in an easy-to-understand way, using models like the Jaundae Dolmen discovered in Daejeon.

What really impressed me was how the Bronze Implement with Agricultural Scenes is displayed using a fascinating hologram!

Iron Age Culture Hall

The Iron Age Culture exhibit takes you back to the era when iron tools began to be used extensively.

Here, you can explore various iron implements discovered at sites like Yonggye-dong, Doan-dong, and Panam-dong,

as well as pottery that diversified in form according to its purpose.

Additionally, you can see a model of a traditional Korean cooking stove that emerged during this period.

My children absolutely loved the ironware crafting experience zone, making our visit truly enjoyable!

Children's Discovery Zone

In the Children's Discovery Zone, a special exhibition titled [The Secret of the Giant Stones: In Search of Dolmens] is currently running.

The exhibition cleverly uses dolmen characters to introduce the topic in an easy and engaging way for children.

The explanations about dolmens are presented in such an entertaining manner that,

not only my child but I also learned so much!

Remember, inside the exhibition room, you'll need to take off your shoes!

We were able to discover all sorts of fascinating facts about dolmens, from their various shapes to their distribution across the land.

Kids could even get hands-on in the block experience zone, building their very own dolmens! It was such a brilliant way for them to grasp the different forms and shapes of these ancient structures.

Outdoor Exploration: Open-Air Exhibition & Archeological Dig Site

Just above Eun-gubi Park, home to the Prehistoric Museum, you'll discover meticulously restored excavated relics, along with a special excavation experience site designed for students to enjoy hands-on learning.

My little explorers felt it was a bit too chilly that day, so we decided to skip it.

But no worries! Instead, we happily explored the traditional games set up right by the entrance and admired the adorable stone statues dotted along the path to the parking lot.
