After planning a 2-night, 3-day birthday trip to Daejeon, known as the 'City of Bread,' the very first thing I pondered was choosing the perfect accommodation.
Considering location, price, and overall condition,
the place I chose was Daejeon's 5-star Hotel Onoma.
After enjoying the Gapcheon River view from the Deluxe Twin Room
and indulging in breakfast,
I could truly understand why the reviews were so positive.
As many of us start preparing for year-end travels,
if you're looking for a hotel where your family can relax and recharge,
I recommend checking out the room reviews and December prices :)
1. Location & Check-in Information
📍 Hotel Onoma Daejeon
Hotel Onoma Daejeon, 1 Expo-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon
📍 1 Expo-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon
Check-in 15:00 / Check-out 11:00
The biggest reason I chose Onoma was its location!
📍 National Science Museum
National Science Museum, 481 Daedeok-daero, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon
📍 Ohssi Kalguksu (Doryong Branch)
Units E103, 104, 105, 1F House D Urban, 19 Expo-ro 151beon-gil, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon
📍 Hotel Onoma Daejeon
Hotel Onoma Daejeon, 1 Expo-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon
📍 Sungsimdang DCC Branch
107 Expo-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon
📍 Hanbat Arboretum
169 Dunsan-daero, Seo-gu, Daejeon
The National Science Museum, Expo Citizens Plaza,
and Hanbat Arboretum are all nearby.
Even Sungsimdang DCC Branch, Daejeon's top bakery, and the Doryong branch of Ohssi Kalguksu, a famous local eatery,
were within walking distance.
Traveling with children can make getting in and out of the car quite a task,
but being able to enjoy both sightseeing and delicious food
right around the hotel made planning our itinerary incredibly easy.

Even at noon, Sungsimdang had a queue... ^^
Make sure to get there right at opening to beat the rush!

Check-in takes place at the 7th-floor reception.
We dropped off our luggage around 10 AM and
also received a check-in waiting number in advance.
Thanks to that, we were able to check in immediately in the afternoon!
If you arrive early on a weekend,
it's worth checking if you can get a waiting number.
2. Deluxe Twin Room View
Our assigned room was
a high-floor Deluxe Twin Room with a Gapcheon River view.
As soon as we stepped in, we were pleased with the generous room size.
From the window, we overlooked Hanbit Tower and the Gapcheon River,
and at night, Daejeon's city lights twinkled.

Since there was no need to go out separately to see the night view,
it was a perfect vista for an anniversary trip
where spending quality time in the room is key.

The room featured two single beds placed side-by-side.
The staff promptly installed the baby guard
we had requested in advance.

The bedding was cozy, and there were two types of pillows with different heights.
The mattress was also incredibly plush, giving a sensation of being
enveloped as soon as you lay down..!

There was a Nespresso machine, tea bags, and wine glasses.
During our visit, two bottles of mineral water, two cans of soda,
and two bottles of sparkling water were provided free of charge.

Bathroom amenities were by Grown Alchemist.
The water pressure was, simply put, incredible, and the cleanliness was also excellent.
However, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and razors were not provided,
so I recommend bringing your own.
3. Swimming Pool

The swimming pool, fitness center, and sauna are
all conveniently located on the 26th floor at Onoma Club.
What a perk! During my stay, both the pool and gym were
completely free for guests, with no usage limits whatsoever, so I loved being able to
dive in once at night and then again for a refreshing morning swim!

You'll find both a refreshing lane pool and a separate, wonderfully warm hydrotherapy pool.
Here's a tip: go for your swim first, then treat yourself to a blissful soak in the warm pool!

Back then, they even offered complimentary swim cap and towel rentals – super convenient!
Just a heads-up, you needed goggles to use the last lane.
While the price might seem a bit steep if you're only planning to sleep, for us,
making full use of the fantastic swimming facilities truly made the stay feel worthwhile and justified the cost.
4. Delicious Breakfast & Direct Connection to Shinsegae!

Start your day right! Breakfast is served from 6:30 AM
at the fabulous restaurant on the 7th floor.
Get ready for an incredible spread, from authentic Korean and Western dishes to fresh fruits and crisp salads,
and even a live egg station where they cook your eggs just the way you like them!

It's truly a family-friendly feast, with plenty of options even the kids will love,
making it perfect for families.

Imagine this: no rushing to get the kids dressed and hunting for a restaurant first thing!
The sheer convenience of enjoying breakfast right here at the hotel is a huge plus
for any family vacation.

Here's another fantastic perk: Shinsegae Department Store is directly connected to the hotel on both the 7th floor and B1 level!
We truly made the most of it – exploring the science museum, having a blast at the hotel,
and even visiting the aquarium, making it a "staycation" that felt anything but ordinary... haha!
Especially during the chilly holiday season, the seamless connection means you don't even need to step outside to enjoy dining and shopping – pure bliss!
5. Snagging Those Year-End Booking Prices!
When I visited, I managed to book a weekend stay including breakfast for ~$326 through Trip.com.
This time, I decided to check prices for a one-night stay from December 19th-20th, and here’s what popped up:
Booking Site | Price Checked | Check Price |
Agoda | ~$303 | |
Trip.com | ~$285 |
It's worth noting that when I checked, Trip.com was
~$19 cheaper than Agoda... what a steal!
Remember, even for the same hotel, prices can fluctuate!
So, always compare room types, breakfast inclusions, and cancellation policies
to make sure you're getting the absolute best final price :)
If you're dreaming of a year-end escape,
don't wait – start planning your booking right away!
It might only be October, making it easy to put off, but trust me,
bookings are already filling up through early December. The year-end slots are likely to disappear even quicker!
For anyone eager to unwind in a room with a stunning Gapcheon River view and make the most of the incredible swimming pool,
Daejeon Onoma truly delivered a wonderfully satisfying stay.
