5 Cafes and Unique Goods Stores in Jung-gu.

Lately, Daejeon has seen so many beautiful cafes popping up,
and I've been on a mission to conquer them all on my days off!
Today, I'm sharing places I've personally visited
that aren't far from Daejeon Station,
making them perfect for travelers too.
I've boldly excluded places that were *only* pretty,
and picked out spots that offer both beauty *and* great taste, hehe.
I've also listed some great spots to visit alongside them.
3 Recommended Daejeon Cafes + Unique Goods Stores
1. Kiko Cafe, Daejeon
📍 Kiko
2F, 30 Jungang-ro 129beon-gil, Jung-gu, Daejeon
Address :
2F, 32-4 Seonhwa-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon
Opening Hours :
Daily 12:00 PM ~ 10:00 PM
Parking :
Nearby public parking lot (paid)
Located on the second floor, right above The Prelude Shop (which I'll introduce below),
this cafe is highly recommended as a combo visit with The Prelude Shop.
There's no dedicated parking,
but with plenty of public parking lots nearby,
finding a spot wasn't difficult.
I used the Seonhwa-dong No. 2 Public Parking Lot,
where 60 minutes cost ~$1.

I visited on a weekday afternoon and got in without any waiting.
The interior was surprisingly spacious, and the tables were well-spaced,
creating a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
The woody atmosphere complemented by plant decor was
clean and impressive.

‼️Recommended Menu Items:
Matcha Chocolat Gâteau
Orange Americano
Orange Bianco

Among these, the menu item I want to recommend the most is
the Matcha Chocolat Gâteau!
This chocolaty gâteau is chewy and just sweet enough,
and the combination with rich matcha ice cream was truly delicious.
Even for someone like me who doesn't prefer overly sweet things,
it was a delightfully palatable taste,
and not being too sweet meant less guilt, hehe!

Personally, for drinks,
the Orange Americano with its refreshing and slightly bitter taste
was perfectly my style.
It might be a hit or miss for some, though, hehe.
Right next door, there's a restaurant called Doolleh Sikdang,
famous for its Spicy Pork Hot Pot Ribs (Maeun Dwaeji Naembi Galbi).
It's a place I've saved because I really want to try it.

It seems like getting a reservation has become even harder since it appeared on 'Halmyungsoo'...
Since I haven't been able to visit yet,
I can't accurately speak about the taste,
but the reviews are quite good.
If you manage to get a reservation,
it would be perfect to visit for lunch, then the cafe, then the unique goods store
in that order.
2. The Prelude Shop, Daejeon
📍 The Prelude Shop
1F, 30 Jungang-ro 129beon-gil, Jung-gu, Daejeon
Address
32-4 Seonhwa-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon
Opening Hours
Sat, Sun 11:00 AM ~ 8:00 PM
Mon~Fri 12:00 PM ~ 7:00 PM
(Closed for Chuseok on 9/25)
This unique goods store is always bustling with people, no matter when you visit.
From Daejeon-themed merchandise to stickers for journal decorating, pens, and more,
it's packed with unique items.
When you browse unique goods stores,
if you're a 'practical' person (hehe),
it often feels like there's nothing specific to buy.
But at The Prelude Shop in Daejeon, there are so many practical *and* pretty items that I spent a long time wondering what to choose!

If you love unique goods stores where you actually buy things and use them well,
this is highly recommended!
I bought a bookmark and a notebook with a cover,
and I'm still using them well.
The bookmark, especially, was affordable and absolutely adorable!

3. Witdaek, Daejeon
📍 Witdaek
2F, 13 Bomun-ro 260beon-gil, Jung-gu, Daejeon
Address
2F, 13 Bomun-ro 260beon-gil, Jung-gu, Daejeon
Opening Hours
Closed every Monday
12:00 PM ~ 10:00 PM
Public parking lot available directly in front of the store.
(~ $1 per hour)
If you've ever searched for cafes in Jung-gu, Daejeon,
you've probably come across Wuitdaek.
I visited around noon on a weekday,
and I was lucky enough to snag the last available seat without any waiting.
This place is famous as an aesthetic cafe in Daejeon, primarily because of its stunning interior.

What really catches your eye the moment you step inside
is the incredibly beautiful counter area.
The cups are pretty, and the drinks are delicious,
making it a place I was thoroughly satisfied with overall.
However, the only downside was that the shop interior felt a bit cramped and busy,
as it was completely full, which was a little regrettable.

Next time, I plan to arrive a bit earlier to leisurely explore the space and try the chocolate mousse for dessert.
To be honest, the cherry rare cheesecake was beautiful,
but the taste wasn't quite my preference... haha.
4. Polit Daejeon
📍 Polit
3F, 13 Bomun-ro 260beon-gil, Jung-gu, Daejeon
Address
3F, 13 Bomun-ro 260beon-gil, Jung-gu, Daejeon
Operating Hours
Closed Monday, Tuesday
Wednesday-Saturday 12:00 ~ 18:00

This is my absolute favorite stationery shop.
It's located right upstairs from Wuitdaek.
Although it's more of a place that sells writing instruments than a general goods shop,
every time I go, my eyes just wander in delight...

If you're a fan of journaling or a stationery addict,
this is a must-visit spot.
And Wuitdaek and Polit are places
that pair perfectly with a visit to the Daejeon Modern and Contemporary Calligraphy Exhibition Hall and Seongsimdang Bakery.
The Modern and Contemporary Calligraphy Exhibition Hall
has such a beautiful interior, it's perfect for taking stunning photos.
5. Nakjo Daejeon
📍 Nakjo

Address
340-43 Daeheung-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon

Temporary Free Parking
52 Chungmu-ro 71beon-gil
Daejeon Middle School parking is available on weekends

This cafe offers a slightly different vibe
from the ones I introduced earlier, making it a perfect spot for solo visitors in Daejeon.
Only a maximum of two people are allowed to enter together,
and it's a "no talking" cafe.
At first, I was like, "A 'no talking' cafe? What's that about?"
But after visiting once, I completely fell in love with it.

Once you place your order and make your payment,
you'll receive a surprisingly long receipt,
which features the owner's recommended song of the day.
It's definitely worth reading.
Recommended menu items include:
Potato Plate
Tomato Latte
Nakjo Latte

You absolutely HAVE to try these three!
While the Tomato Latte might be a hit or miss for some,
it's a flavor you've probably never experienced before, so I highly recommend giving it a try.
While the drinks are great,
the true signature menu item at Nakjo Daejeon is, without a doubt,
the Potato Plate.
The slightly spicy sauce in the middle is the absolute kick!
It's even more delicious than most brunch cafes.

When I went solo, I absolutely devoured the salad + potato plate, leaving not a single crumb!
And when I visited with a friend, we ordered the delicious brunch set.
While walk-ins are welcome, it seems reservations are a must on weekends, especially if you want to snag a spot!
This café in Jung-gu, Daejeon, is perfect for a relaxed solo coffee date.
If you're exploring Daejeon and craving a unique café experience, definitely consider checking this place out.
And if you're already in the area near Nakjo,
it's a fantastic idea to pop over to Temi-Oraeng as well!
Temi-Oraeng is a wonderful spot where you can catch glimpses of Daejeon's old downtown charm,
especially perfect for a leisurely stroll on a crisp autumn day.
