When you think of Daejeon, Seongsimdang Bakery often comes to mind first, right? Even as a local, I used to ponder what unique gifts to bring friends from out of town. But lately, a new and absolutely adorable option for Daejeon snacks and gifts has emerged!

I'm talking about Kkumdori Hodugwaja, featuring Daejeon's beloved mascot, Kkumdori! From these charming walnut cakes to baseball-shaped desserts and even Kkumdori merchandise, it's definitely a spot worth a quick visit during your Daejeon trip.

1. The Perfect Daejeon Souvenir: Kkumdori Hodugwaja!

You'll find Kkumdori Hodugwaja conveniently located near Exit D-5 of Jungangno Station's underground shopping center. It's also just about a 5-minute walk from the famous Seongsimdang Bakery's main branch.

Parking isn't available directly at the shop, so I recommend using the Daeheung-dong Public Parking Lot or finding roadside parking near Daeheung Park.

Stepping inside, the first thing that catches your eye, of course, are the adorable Kkumdori-shaped hodugwaja.

These aren't just any ordinary walnut cakes; they're crafted in the shape of Kkumdori's face, instantly making them feel like an authentic Daejeon souvenir! Plus, the prices are quite reasonable.

The Original Kkumdori Hodugwaja: 4 pieces for ~$1 / 10 pieces for ~$3 / 20 pieces for ~$7
Mixed (Original + Chocolate): 4 pieces for ~$2 / 10 pieces for ~$5 / 20 pieces for ~$10
Colorful Chocolate Signature: 4 pieces for ~$3 / 10 pieces for ~$8 / 20 pieces for ~$17

If I were grabbing a snack to enjoy right away, I'd go for the Original. But for a gift, I'd definitely choose the Mixed or Signature options, where Kkumdori's cute face is more prominently displayed. They even offer box packaging, making them perfect for colleagues or friends!
2. From Baseball Hodugwaja to Coffee and More!

You can't talk about Daejeon without mentioning baseball, right? They also have special baseball-shaped hodugwaja, and they're even cuter than you'd expect!

Baseball Hodugwaja Original: 3 pieces for ~$1 / 12 pieces for ~$5
Mixed: 3 pieces for ~$2 / 12 pieces for ~$7
Signature: 3 pieces for ~$3 / 12 pieces for ~$14
If you're in Daejeon for a Hanwha Eagles home game, make sure to wear your baseball uniform! You'll get ~$1 off your in-store purchase. A great tip for any baseball fans visiting the city!

They also sell coffee, perfect to pair with your hodugwaja. Even better, if your hodugwaja purchase totals over ~$7, you can get ~$1 off your coffee!

Beyond hodugwaja, they offer other delightful treats like macarons, an-butter bread, and salt bread, making it a great spot for a quick dessert break.
3. Your One-Stop Shop for Daejeon Snacks, Gifts, and Souvenirs!

What truly surprised me was the wide variety of Kkumdori merchandise available – it was so much fun to browse! From keychains and plushies to tumblers, pens, magnets, and even hairpins, all sorts of adorable items were neatly displayed in one section.

Instead of hunting through various souvenir shops for Kkumdori merchandise, you can get all your gifts and hodugwaja treats right here! What I loved most was that it truly felt like a special item you could only find in Daejeon.

While the taste might not be remarkably different from other hodugwaja, let's be honest – they're incredibly cute! And the affordable price point makes them even more appealing.

If you're looking for unique Daejeon travel souvenirs or snack gifts beyond Seongsimdang, or perhaps a small present to take home after catching a baseball game, then Kkumdori Hodugwaja is definitely worth a visit!
