Do you often find yourself wondering where to take your parents?
Too much walking can be tiring,
Crowded places can quickly drain their energy,
But if there's nothing special to see, it can get boring.
Beyond just the usual flowers,
Why not try this place?
After parking, it's just a short walk uphill.
And more importantly, if your parents have lived in Daejeon for a long time,
As they gaze at the city center laid out before them,
They'll remark on how much it's changed from before,
And spend a long time soaking in the view.
A new hotspot in Daejeon
That earned high satisfaction from my parents:
The Bomunsan Big Tree Observatory.
Allow me to introduce it to you.

The Bomunsan Big Tree Observatory is
a renowned observatory spot in Daejeon,
newly opened in 2026.
The former Bomunsan Observatory underwent a renovation,
and the facilities are now much cleaner.
Nowadays, it's frequently listed as a must-visit place in Daejeon.
It's really climbing the ranks!
Since both admission and parking are free,
it's a great place to visit without any burden.
What I liked most was that
it didn't feel like a strenuous climb up a mountain at all.
You can walk up as if taking a light stroll,
enjoy the view, and then head back down.
It's the perfect course,
making it ideal for a leisurely visit with your parents.
It was truly enjoyable.

2. Location and Parking
📍 Bomunsan Big Tree Observatory
1-65, Daesa-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon
The Bomunsan Big Tree Observatory
is located in Daesa-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon.
Weekdays are usually fine,
but on weekends, due to roadside parking,
the uphill road can sometimes become
a one-way street. ㅠ
New drivers should be aware!

Wood Culture Experience Center / Bomunsan Forest Healing Center
If you're visiting by car,
the Bomunsan Forest Healing Center parking lot or
the parking lot near the Wood Culture Experience Center
is where you should park.
General vehicles cannot access the area directly in front of the observatory,
so you'll need to park and walk up.
Initially,
I was worried my parents might find it difficult,
but once we actually started walking,
it felt more like a leisurely stroll,
and wasn't strenuous at all.
Even my parents, who have sensitive knees,
managed to go up without any trouble,
taking breaks along the way.

3. Why It's the Perfect Trip for Your Parents
The Bomunsan Big Tree Observatory is a place
that isn't too strenuous but offers fantastic views.
When choosing a place to go with parents,
the flow of movement is incredibly important, right?
Is parking convenient?
Will they have to walk too much?
Are there places to rest in between?
These are the things
you naturally start to consider.

From that perspective,
the Bomunsan Big Tree Observatory
was generally not overwhelming at all.
Inside the observatory, there's an elevator,
and the indoor spaces are well-designed,
making it easy to take breaks.

But what my parents loved the most
was definitely the view.
As they gazed at the Daejeon cityscape,
finding all the ways it had changed from before,
chatting about 'it used to be like this' and 'it was like that',
they kept talking,
and I found myself lingering, looking at the view with them for a long time too.
Rather than feeling like a bustling tourist attraction,
it’s more of a serene spot for quiet strolls and peaceful breaks,
making it an ideal place to spend quality, relaxed time
with your parents.

3. The Path to the Observatory
From the parking lot
to the observatory,
it took us about 10 minutes.

It felt less like a challenging mountain trail
and more like a gentle walking path,
perfect for a leisurely stroll with your parents.
The path is also very well-maintained,
so you can comfortably make your way up
even just wearing sneakers.
With plenty of trees along the way
and fresh air,
the walk itself was incredibly refreshing.

Right in front of the observatory,
you'll also find the old Bomoonsan Cable Car on display,
which used to be in operation.
It seemed to evoke wonderful memories for my parents' generation,
as they were incredibly happy to see it!

On the stairs leading up,
you’ll also find adorable Kkumssi Family sculptures,
so be sure to snap some memorable photos!

4. Floor Guide
The Bomoonsan Keunnamu Observatory
actually has a more substantial and diverse interior
than you might expect!
Rather than just an observatory where you go up, admire the view, and head back down,
each floor has a slightly different atmosphere,
making it a joy to explore slowly.

Basement 1: Media Art Space
First, on the basement level,
you'll discover a media art space.

While it's not a massive exhibition hall,
the dimly lit space with captivating videos projected onto the walls
creates a wonderful atmosphere to sit back and relax for a bit.
My parents thoroughly enjoyed taking it all in comfortably.

If you feel it would be a shame to just visit the observatory and head straight back down,
I highly recommend taking the time to explore
the media art space on Basement 1.

1st Floor: Future Book Cafe & Rest Area
The first floor was in the process of being prepared
to open as a book cafe and relaxation area.

When you arrive at the observatory entrance,
instead of taking the stairs up,
head left and you'll find yourself on the first floor.
There's also an elevator located here,
making it convenient for those with strollers or wheelchairs
to access the different levels.
The restrooms are also on this floor,
making it easy to make a quick stop before you begin your exploration.

2nd Floor: Indoor Observatory
Personally, my favorite spot
was the 2nd-floor indoor observatory.
Through the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows,
the entire city of Daejeon stretches out before you,
making it feel incredibly open and breezy,
even though you're indoors.
The panoramic views truly open up your senses!

They even have digital telescopes here,
which made it fun to scan for distant buildings
or the baseball stadium.

What's great is that
there are also digital telescopes specifically for kids,
so even shorter children
can enjoy using them!

Instead of just gazing out the window,
you'll find yourself wondering, 'What's that over there?'
and trying to identify each landmark,
which made me stay much longer than I expected!

Even on rainy days or when it's scorching hot,
the ability to enjoy the view comfortably
from indoors was a huge plus.
(Oh, and the night view from here is absolutely stunning too!)

3rd Floor Rooftop Observatory
The 3rd floor is an outdoor rooftop observatory.
If the 2nd floor is a space for calmly appreciating the scenery,
the 3rd floor is more about feeling the wind directly
and enjoying a wide-open, unobstructed view.
As soon as I stepped out the door,
I loved how the view dramatically opened up.
I visited during the day,
and seeing the lush green scenery of Bomunsan Mountain
alongside the Daejeon city center
was even more beautiful than I expected.

Photos of my parents
turned out most naturally and beautifully here.
With such an open backdrop,
it was perfect for capturing commemorative shots.
It gets better light than inside the building,
and with such an expansive background,
it's fantastic for taking scenic photos.
However, it can get quite windy,
so it's a good idea to be careful with hats
and light belongings.
Rather than a place to linger for a long time,
it felt more like a floor for taking a refreshing stroll around
and snapping some great pictures.

If you're visiting with your parents,
I'd recommend spending the most time on the 2nd floor,
then heading to the 3rd floor for photos,
and finally taking a short break on the 1st basement level.

6. Top Tips for Your Visit
✔️ Parking directly in front of the observatory is not possible.
✔️ Sneakers or comfortable shoes are highly recommended.
✔️ Visit on a clear day for much better views.
✔️ It's a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll with your parents.

Bomunsan Keunnamu Observatory
is less a flashy tourist attraction and more
a wonderful place to enjoy a slow walk with your parents
and have a relaxing outing.
Most importantly, the time spent gazing at the Daejeon city center together
and sharing various stories
is what truly created lasting memories for me.
On days when you want to take a light breath of fresh air
without a packed schedule,
it's the perfect spot to visit with your parents,
a truly recommended 'filial piety' course in Daejeon! :)
