If you ever find yourself at the Daejeon Jungang-ro Underground Shopping Center,
there's one snack bar you absolutely have to stop by.
It's none other than the spot famous for its Ice Cream Tteokbokki!
Yes, Baro Geujip!
If you're a local from Daejeon,
chances are you've visited it at least once in your life.
It felt so surreal, returning to a place I used to frequent with friends
but this time, holding my child's hand.
It really brought back so many memories! Haha.
After such a long time away,
I thoroughly enjoyed a hearty meal with the Tteokbokki, Gimbap, and Sundae set.
The sweet, thick sauce coats the wonderfully chewy rice cakes.
And then there's that distinctive, almost magical, and utterly addictive flavor that's unique to Baro Geujip!

📍 Baro Geujip
145 Jungang-ro, Jung-gu, Daejeon, Underground Shopping Center, Section C, No. 61
The Baro Geujip Tteokbokki Main Branch is conveniently located
at the farthest end of the underground shopping center.
If you come down beneath the Daejeon Modern & Contemporary History Exhibition Hall (formerly Chungnam Provincial Office),
you'll find a performance stage,
and the restaurant is situated to its left.
It's also just a 5-minute walk from the Seongsimdang Main Branch, making it perfect to visit both!

Since it's nestled within the underground shopping center, there is no dedicated parking lot.
If you're coming by car, we recommend using the nearby Underground Shopping Center Public Parking Lot
or the Jungang-ro Station Public Parking Lot.
It's also directly connected to Jungang-ro Subway Station,
making public transport a much more convenient option.

The distinctive yellow sign, emblazoned with 'Baro Geujip',
is easy to spot from a distance!

Even within the underground shopping center, it's quite a sizable establishment,
and just by looking at its exterior, you can sense the powerful aura of a truly long-standing, beloved foodie spot.
The sign itself is classic and makes a definitive statement!
It's straightforward and easy to locate, right? Haha.
The interior is also quite spacious, especially for an underground shopping center establishment.
You'll find numerous open-plan tables,
and the customer turnover is quite fast,
so even if there's a queue, you usually get a seat much faster than you'd expect.

The self-service bar offers pickled radish (danmuji), kimchi, and a water dispenser.
At Baro Geujip,
from picking up your food to clearing your table,
everything runs on a self-service system.

In one corner of the restaurant, you'll see a massive griddle
overflowing with tteokbokki.
The sweet and savory aroma emanating from the simmering sauce
wafts through the underground shopping center's corridors,
making it practically impossible to just walk past! Haha.
Baro Geujip revolves around tteokbokki,
but they offer a fantastic array of other bunsik (snack) dishes too.
From tteokbokki, gimbap, and sundae to donkatsu (pork cutlet), jeyuk-deopbap (spicy pork rice bowl), jjolmyeon (spicy chewy noodles), ramyeon, and more,
a wide variety is available.
You can also choose to add extra egg, odeng (fish cakes), or tteok (rice cakes).

Tteokbokki
It's Barogujip's signature dish, and truly, an undeniably popular menu item!
Because it's made with rice cakes (tteok), it's even chewier, and the sauce is perfectly soaked into the rice cakes, so when you chew, the thick yet soft texture is simply divine.

It consists of 6 rice cakes, 2 fried seaweed rolls (gimmari), and 4 fish cakes (eomuk).
The rice cakes are thick.
The fish cakes are also noticeably thick, too! Ha.

The sauce is a mix of sweet and salty, with a hint of powdered milk cream flavor (?).
It's an intricately addictive flavor.
At first, you might wonder, 'What is this taste?'
But before you know it, you'll keep thinking about it,
and you'll crave it again.
✔️ It's so sweet and smooth that it's even called 'Ice Cream Tteokbokki.'
Even those sensitive to spice can enjoy it without worry!

Gimbap
Baro Gimbap has that charming, home-cooked gimbap feel – simple yet comforting.
It's not overly stimulating and has a clean taste,
which made it a perfect match with the tteokbokki.

The fillings were generous,
and the seaweed wasn't tough,
making it wonderfully soft to eat.

Sundae
You can't have tteokbokki without sundae!
This is the ideal street food-style sundae!
It was savory and clean-tasting, without any unpleasant odor,
and if you dip it deep into the tteokbokki sauce instead of salt,
it's absolutely perfect!

Since the tteokbokki sauce is on the sweeter side,
if you prefer a soft and creamy combination over a spicy kick,
you absolutely must try them together!

Rabokki
Based on Barogujip's special sauce,
it had a perfectly balanced, savory broth.

The ramen noodles soaked up plenty of the sauce,
making every bite wonderfully sweet!
The seasoning permeated the noodles even better than the tteokbokki,
allowing you to enjoy a richer flavor.
✔️ Sweet, thick, and nostalgic 'Ice Cream Tteokbokki' that brings back memories
✔️ A generous combination with gimbap and sundae
✔️ Convenient self-serve side dishes and ordering system
✔️ Fast turnover even with a wait
✔️ Just a 5-minute walk from Seongsimdang Bakery – perfect for a stop after visiting Seongsimdang!
The sweet and addictive 'Ice Cream Tteokbokki,'
and even rabokki, where the noodles blend perfectly!
Barogujip is a place in Daejeon's underground shopping center that's hard to just walk past when you're there,
and it's clear why it earned its title as a true Daejeon local hotspot.
It's a satisfying spot for a light snack or a hearty meal,
so I definitely plan to stop by again the next time I visit the underground shopping center.
If you come to Daejeon, I highly recommend tasting it at least once!
