Discover the ultimate half-day Daejeon bakery tour! We review 9 trendy dessert cafes, local favorites, and weekend wait times in Korea's famous bread city.

I don't just love bread and desserts—
I'm absolutely obsessed. I even worked part-time at a bakery cafe for almost 3 years!
In Daejeon, the "fun city" of Kumdori,
I put together a half-day, 100% self-funded
Daejeon Bakery Pilgrimage course that hits both incredible flavors and immaculate vibes.
Especially for a Saturday afternoon weekend trip,
here are the wait times and honest reviews for 9 of the hottest spots in Daejeon:
(🏷 Jeongdong Munhwasa, Yeongchun Mochi, Mongsim Daeheung, Rorone Bakery, Jellypoe Jungang Mallang HQ, Heugeuimuja, Sanhocho, Pie Garden, Gusto Letto)
brought to you in vivid detail.
1. Jeongdong Munhwasa
Hours: Tue–Sat, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Just a 15-minute walk from Daejeon Station,
famous for egg tarts and baked treats,
welcome to Jeongdong Munhwasa.

It's tucked away in an alleyway with a hip, retro Euljiro vibe,
and it feels like an old industrial workshop beautifully renovated into a cafe.
Because of that, there's actually a decent amount of seating space inside.
They even sacrificed half of their indoor seating area
just to create a cool, air-conditioned indoor waiting zone.
It's incredibly thoughtful of them!

The space has immaculate vibes,
and there's even a spot to temporarily rest your bags.

Here is the baked goods lineup at Jeongdong Munhwasa.
There wasn't a line when I arrived, but here is what the remaining stock looked like:
✔️ What's the weekend (Saturday) afternoon stock like at Jeongdong Munhwasa?
Saturday, 2:00 PM. No wait line.
Some canelés and egg tarts were already sold out,
but overall there was plenty of everything else.
Jeongdong Munhwasa

From sweet to sweet-and-savory,
they have a highly diverse lineup.
As for canelés, chocolate and matcha flavors were still left,
and the financiers were fully stocked in almost every flavor.
So you don't need to rush here too early!

Out of all these, I ordered:
Squid Ink Cream Cheese Financier (~$2),
Salted Caramel Financier (~$2),
and a Matcha Canelé (~$2) to go.
I ended up eating them the next day,
and the funky, sweet-salty cheese flavors of the squid ink one were perfectly balanced,
the hazelnut was packed to the brim with crunchy nuts,
and the canelé was wonderfully crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.
Out of all the baked treats I tried in Daejeon,
Jeongdong Munhwasa is hands-down my #1 favorite!

With all the glittering baking molds and professional mixers,
this section is absolute eye candy for any fellow bread lover/baking enthusiast...
📍 Jeongdong Munhwasa
11 Changjo 2-gil, Dong-gu, Daejeon
2. Yeongchun Mochi

I took a quick bus ride and arrived
in the lovely, sunny neighborhood of Daeheung-dong.
What's the weekend (Saturday) afternoon wait time at Yeongchun Mochi?

As of Saturday at 2:48 PM...
SOLD OUT
Yeongchun Mochi
Yeongchun Mochi was already closed and empty...
Regular rice cakes are around ~$1,
and their fruit mochi is only ~$1,
which is such a steal with today's prices!
I'll definitely have to try it next time.
📍 Yeongchun Mochi
40 Junggyo-ro, Jung-gu, Daejeon
3. Mongsim (Daeheung Branch)

Winner of 1st place
at the Daejeon Bakery Festival Awards
in both 2022 and 2024—this is Mongsim Daeheung!
They are especially famous for their savory bread.

Just like other popular spots, they have super sweet
courtesy umbrellas for those waiting in line.
There's no dine-in space,
and because the ordering area is quite small,
only 2 teams (up to 5 people max) can enter at a time!
You can also order via Coupang Eats (delivery app).
So, how was the ✔️ weekend (Saturday) wait time at Mongsim Daeheung?
Line joined: 2:45 PM
Entered: 3:00 PM
Total wait time: 15 minutes. Note: Egg tarts and savory breads were already sold out!
Mongsim Daeheung Branch

By Saturday afternoon,
most of the savory breads were already gone.
Only one Margherita Ciabatta was left,
with just 3 pieces remaining.
As for the baked goods,
the egg tarts and most other treats were sold out.
I could literally watch items disappear in real-time while waiting in line!

I ordered the Classic Butter Financier (~$2)
and Milk Condensed Milk Madeleine (~$2) to go.
I ate them the next day,
and even my mom, who isn't a fan of sweet things, absolutely loved them!
If you want a wider selection of baked goods
or want to snag their savory bread,
be sure to head over much earlier...!
📍 Mongsim (Daeheung Branch)
1F, 32 Junggyo-ro, Jung-gu, Daejeon
(I heard Mongsim has other locations,
and their cake-specialty branch looked absolutely delicious too...!)
4. Rorone Bakery

Also located in Daeheung-dong,
this is Rorone Bakery.
I stopped by because their pastries are said to be a work of art,
but their chestnut bread looked amazing too.
So, how was the ✔️ Saturday bread inventory at Rorone Bakery?

Saturday, 3:00 PM. No line!
Some bread varieties sold out
Rorone Bakery

As of Saturday at 3:00 PM,
even though a few items were sold out,
I was still able to grab several popular options
like their chestnut bread and ribbon pastries.
I got the Pain Suisse (~$3) to go,
and tried it the next day. It was on the sweeter side,
but the layers of the pastry were perfectly defined and flaky.

It's a bakery cafe with plenty of seating to dine in,
but keep in mind that outside food is strictly prohibited.
📍 Lolo's Bakery
1F, Seungchon Building, 30 Junggyo-ro, Jung-gu, Daejeon
5. Jellypoe Central Squishy HQ

While waiting in line for Mongsim (Daeheung branch),
this place kept catching my eye, so I just had to pop in!
With its quirky exterior,

and an even quirkier, pudding-obsessed interior...
Welcome to Jellypoe Central Squishy HQ!

Totally my vibe. Haha!
✔️ As of 3:00 PM on a weekend,
there was no wait, and plenty of seats were available.

The menu has a distinct Japanese vibe.
They offer pudding-focused treats, classic drinks,
and Japanese-style baked goods.

I ordered the peach-flavored
Pink Paradise Jelly Soda (~$5)
to go,
and they even gave me this adorable tomato keychain!
Although the drink was quite sweet,
the homemade pudding jelly inside was top-notch.
📍 Jellypoe Central Squishy HQ
1F Cafe, 36 Junggyo-ro, Jung-gu, Daejeon
6. Heug-ui-meu-ja

Located about a 10-minute walk from Daeheung-ro
is Cafe Heug-ui-meu-ja.
At 3:45 PM on a weekend,
it was already packed, so we couldn't get a table, but
the exterior had such a great aesthetic vibe that we couldn't help but look around.
The unique name actually comes from
stretching out the pronunciation of a dog's name, 'Heugimja' (Black Sesame).

The interior is sleek and modern,
but all the lush green plants make it feel so cozy and fresh.
✔️ As of 3:45 PM on a weekend,
fully booked!

I've never seen a dog-shaped sando cake
crafted with whipped cream like this before—
it was absolutely adorable.
📍 Heug-ui-meu-ja
1F, 295 Bomun-ro, Jung-gu, Daejeon
7. Cafe Sanhocho

It has exactly the kind of moody, vintage vibe I love,
so I had saved it on my go-to list,
and I was so happy my friends tagged along with me.

Displaying all your favorite things
without making it look cluttered, but rather cozy...
is truly a special talent.
A talent I wish I had...!!!

Check out this extraordinary,
handcrafted, retro-style menu...
We ordered Lemonade (~$4),
White Peach Oolong (~$3),
and Guifei Oolong (~$3).

Listening to the dreamy music,
we explored every corner of the cafe
and took a little breather.

Even the cups were wonderfully bizarre—
this alien-shaped cup totally stole my heart haha.

Every single nook and cranny had Cafe Sanhocho's unique aesthetic,
making it so much fun to look around!
A kind soul even let us have their 3-person seat,
so I spent the rest of the day wishing them the best of luck :)
📍 Sanhocho
2F, 36 Daejong-ro 517beon-gil, Jung-gu, Daejeon
8. PIE GARDEN

Pie Garden is a relatively new spot!
We were passing by and drawn in by its spacious exterior,
so we just had to pop inside this bakery.
✔️ Saturday at 5:00 PM,
what does the pastry display look like?

True to its name, they have a wide variety of pies,
along with sandwiches, baguettes,
and baked goods,
making it a perfect brunch spot.
The Fig Jamon Sandwich (~$4)
would've easily cost twice as much in Seoul...
It was absolutely delicious!

There's plenty of seating to dine in,
and the drinks are perfectly curated to pair with the pastries.
9. Gustoletto
Gelato Shop

After a somewhat heavy and spicy meal,
we needed something to soothe our palates and refresh our mouths,
so we headed straight to Gustoletto, a local gelato spot.
Both the exterior and interior give off serious authentic Italian vibes...

It looks like they make their own waffle cones,
and they even had this insane combination called a S'mores Cone, but...
They were already sold out by late afternoon.
Besides gelato, they also offer a variety of Italian-style
coffee options and affogatos.

By the time I checked around 6:22 PM,
several of the gelato flavors were already sold out.
✔️ You can get 2 flavors in one cup, and they even let you sample!

2-Flavor Cup (~$4) ::
I chose Sweet Pumpkin (+ Balsamic drizzle)
and Camembert Cheese (+ Olive oil, truffle, and black pepper)
as my flavors.

It's a bit on the pricier side for gelato,
but you can really taste the rich, high-quality, fresh ingredients
in every single bite. Incredible quality! 👍
For just a half-day afternoon adventure,
I managed to fit in so many amazing spots.
This high-vibes Daejeon bakery & cafe crawl was a total success...
Stay tuned! I'll share my Sungsimdang queueing survival guide in my next post!
As of 2 PM on Saturday, there is no wait. Some canelés and egg tarts may be sold out, but there are plenty of financiers left in various flavors.
Fruit mochi is priced around ~$1, and regular rice cakes are also around ~$1. However, as of 2:48 PM on a Saturday, they were already sold out and the shop was closed, so you need to visit early.
The ordering space inside the store is narrow, so only a total of 2 groups, or a maximum of 5 people, can enter at a time. If visiting the store is difficult, you can also order delivery through Coupang Eats.
Roro's Bakery is a cafe and bakery with seating available inside. However, outside food is not allowed, so please keep this in mind.
The price for a 2-flavor cup is ~$4. You can choose two different gelatos in one cup, and tasting is also available when you order.
