Feeling a little antsy staying indoors during the chilly winter,
I decided to venture out with the kids to explore Daedong Sky Park & Mural Village!
Just hearing the name conjures images of wide-open skies and breathtaking vistas, and this place truly delivers.
Often referred to as Daejeon's 'Moon Village' (a charming hillside neighborhood), it's renowned for its spectacular night views.
We chose to visit during the day,
and absolutely relished the crisp, refreshing winter air.

Daejeon Daedong Sky Park is located in Daedong, Dong-gu, Daejeon.
It's perched on one of the highest points in Daejeon,
a beautiful park has been developed atop Daedong's ridge.
Daedong Sky Park is nestled above a charming village, characterized by its narrow, winding alleyways.
If you're a new driver, you might want to exercise caution when navigating the steep and narrow village roads.
While there's a free public parking lot nearby,
do note that parking spaces can be quite limited.
If you opt for public transport,
you'll need to disembark at Daedong Station or a bus stop at the base of the village,
and then brace yourself for a climb up the steep alleyways to reach Daedong Sky Park.
The public parking lot is about 400m from the entrance of Daedong Sky Park.
It's roughly a 15-minute walk.
Daedong Sky Park is often hailed as Daejeon's very own hidden gem,
established in 2009 as part of the 'Daedong Village Shelter Project',
and is so stunning, it was even chosen as one of Dong-gu's Eight Scenic Views!
The journey up to Sky Park
is an absolute delight, with vibrant murals adorning the walls, making every step an enjoyable discovery!
Wander through the nooks and crannies of the alleys, and you'll quickly find yourself
at the entrance to the Sky Park path.
Alright, from this point onwards,
the endless stairway adventure truly begins!
There are indeed quite a number of stairs,
but honestly, it wasn't overwhelmingly tough.
It was definitely manageable.
Just a heads-up: if you visit when it's snowy, the path could be a little slippery and potentially risky.

I started counting the stairs as we ascended, but..
somewhere along the way, the kids and I turned it into
a race to see who could reach the top first,
(which, of course, led to me)
completely forgetting the count! LOL!
With my less-than-stellar stamina, I honestly thought I was going to collapse! ;;
Looking down during our climb,
the view of Daejeon was absolutely magnificent, wasn't it?
After conquering those steep stairs,
you'll definitely feel like you've had a proper, invigorating workout! Ha!
Even after ascending those stairs,
there's still a little more climbing to do
to reach the Sky Park itself.
On the way to Daedong Sky Park,
right next to the stairs, you'll find the popular [Daedong Sky Park Cafe],
a spot beloved by many visitors.
And beyond this charming cafe, as you explore below the park,
you'll discover a plethora of cafes boasting fantastic views,
perfect for relaxing with a cup of tea or coffee.
For an extra special experience, try to visit at sunset,
as you can enjoy the stunning sunset and Daejeon's nightscape simultaneously,
creating an even more magical and atmospheric ambiance.
And just when you thought you were done, the second round of stairs awaits!
This set of stairs actually has a few less steps than the first one.
And they're a bit easier, too! Hehe.
Next to the stairs, you'll find **men's and women's restrooms**.
There aren't any further up,
so please use these ones!
This time, by playing rock-paper-scissors with the kids
and slowly climbing the stairs,
we were able to reach the top in no time!
From the **parking lot** all the way to **Haneul Park**,
walking and climbing the stairs
took us **about 15 minutes**.
At the top of the stairs, colorful pinwheels
were spinning in the winter breeze.
The wind was quite chilly,
but after working hard to climb the stairs,
the refreshingly cool breeze felt absolutely perfect! Ha.
But... the uphill climb wasn't over yet.... LOL
Arriving at the park, we saw that in many places,
the snow from the day before hadn't melted yet.
Since the park is located high up, like a mountaintop,
it felt a bit chilly.
At first, I worried the kids might be too cold,
but they were actually running around, having a blast! Haha.
From the park's observation deck, which felt like it touched the sky,
Daejeon city unfolded before our eyes.
Perhaps because it was winter, the air was clear and crisp,
making the scenery even more vivid.
**The trademark** of Daejeon Haneul Park
is, without a doubt, the towering **windmill**!
When I visited after a long time,
the windmill looked different!
The windmill, which used to be covered in messy graffiti,
had been neatly **renovated**.
It's now decorated with the Kkumssi Family characters on the outside,
making it much cuter than before!
The previous windmill
had a great atmosphere at first,
but over time, it became messy with signs of age and graffiti.
The newly changed windmill is a bit more 'cutesy' and charming,
so it felt a little unfamiliar to me.
However, the kids
absolutely loved the colorful and cute Kkumssi Family
characters!
Around the windmill,
the old and unsightly
**love locks**
have all been **removed**,
making everything look much tidier.
With the locks gone, the park feels cleaner,
and it's even better for taking in the full view of Daejeon.
As soon as we arrived at the park,
the first thing the kids reacted to was
the **swings**!
However, because snow had accumulated
and made them all wet,
they couldn't use them,
which left the kids feeling a bit disappointed.
Behind it, there's also a shaded rest area,
which would be perfect for taking a break during the hot summer!
Daedong: Your Guide to Togetherness
Daedong is truly a village where the joy of togetherness blossoms.
It was located east of Daedonggyo Bridge, near what is now Daedong Ogeori (the Daedong Five-way Intersection).
It earned the name Daedong because it was the village situated to the east of the 'Hanbat' (Great Fields).
This resilient community was originally forged by refugees during the Korean War (6.25),
and it holds the distinction of being the village situated at the highest altitude in all of Daejeon city.
Daedong Village truly exudes the authentic scent of life, filled with an abundance of warmth and generosity.
Around the charming windmill, you'll discover artistic sculptures scattered here and there,
making it a fantastic spot for capturing memorable photos.
But for those truly unforgettable shots, the photos taken from the observatory are simply unparalleled!
It's truly the perfect place to capture that 'once-in-a-lifetime' photo.
Daedong Sky Park, perched approximately 127 meters (around 417 feet) above sea level,
offers a breathtaking panoramic view of downtown Daejeon right before your eyes.
True to its name, 'Sky Park,' it's situated so close to the heavens,
allowing you to gaze down upon the entire city of Daejeon.
As I stood there, soaking in the magnificent vista of Daejeon,
it felt like my worries melted away, leaving my spirit completely refreshed and open.
To the front right, you'll spot two prominent towering buildings:
the Korea Rail Network Authority and KORAIL (Korea Railroad Corporation).
This area is, in fact, where Daejeon Station is bustling with activity.
While Daedong Sky Park radiates beauty during the day,
it truly transforms when you visit after sunset.
The atmosphere becomes incredibly romantic and enchanting, making it a highly recommended spot for a memorable date night.
As dusk falls, the windmill lights up with a soft glow,
and the dazzling nightscape of Daejeon city beautifully merges with it,
creating an absolutely breathtaking spectacle.
This is why it's renowned as a premier destination for spectacular night views.
It's no wonder so many couples flock here, seeking that perfect romantic ambiance.
The very top of Daedong Sky Park isn't massive in scale.
But the journey to the summit is delightful, with numerous paths and
charming alleyways branching off as you ascend.
They make for wonderful leisurely strolls.
Surrounding the park, you'll find beautifully maintained walking trails,
perfect for a refreshing walk or some gentle exercise.
As the weather warms up,
the park becomes adorned with vibrant trees and blooming flowers,
offering a unique charm with each passing season.
To immerse myself in the vibrant artistry of Daedong Mural Village,
I made my way back down the stairs.
Located just below Daedong Sky Park (along the path leading up to the park itself),
lies the captivating Daedong Mural Village.
It's a delightful place to wander, admiring the colorful murals
that adorn its streets.
After spending some wonderful time at the park,
this village was the perfect next stop on my itinerary.
Daedong Mural Village has masterfully created uniquely beautiful alleyways by assigning distinct themes to each and every corner.
With murals featuring beloved, familiar characters
and charmingly decorated spaces,
it's no surprise that children absolutely adore exploring these vibrant streets!
The narrow alleyways, preserving old houses and the charm of the past,
blend with the vibrant murals to create a wonderfully warm and cozy atmosphere.
We enjoyed exploring the murals with the kids,
and took so many photos
with the vibrant artworks as our backdrop.
There are truly countless photo-worthy spots around every corner!
The kids especially loved spotting familiar characters and scenes in the murals, making it a joyful experience for them too.
Not just the narrow alleyways, but also the main roads
were adorned with murals in every nook and cranny,
making it so enjoyable that we lost track of time while exploring.
📌 Recommended Visiting Time: If you visit in the evening or at night, you can enjoy a romantic sunset and stunning night views.
📌 There are no shops inside the park, so bring light snacks and water. Cafes are also available.
📌 Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended for the trails.
📌 Since the air is cold in winter, it's a good idea to dress warmly.

The windmill at Daedong Sky Park, which was covered in messy graffiti, has been neatly renovated. It is now decorated with the Kkumssi Family on its exterior, making it cuter than before, and all the surrounding love locks have also been removed.
The Daedong Sky Park public parking lot is 400m away from the Sky Park entrance. It takes about 15 minutes to walk, and parking spaces are limited.
There are men's and women's restrooms right next to the 'second staircase hell' on the way up to Daedong Sky Park. There are no restrooms at the top of the park, so please use these facilities.
Daedong Sky Park is especially fantastic when visited at night, as the windmill lights up and harmonizes with the night view of Daejeon city. Visiting at sunset allows you to enjoy both the sunset and the Daejeon night view, creating an even more atmospheric experience.
