start opening one by one,

are you racking your brains trying to figure out where to take the kids?

As soon as I heard about the opening of the Yuseong-gu water play area,

I immediately visited the Daejeon Science Park Sports Field Water Play Area myself on August 1st.

Before going, what I was most curious about was:

How crowded would it be?

Would parking be easy?

Could toddlers play there too?

Would there be enough shade?

Would there be more attractions than last year?

After actually visiting,

I discovered advantages you wouldn't know just from looking at photos,

and some great tips to know before you go.

Today, I'll share what I felt while directly using it on the opening day,

including parking, water depth, play facilities, and amenities.

I'll introduce it all in detail.

When visiting, it's best to set your navigation to

Dedicated Free Parking Lot

While Parking Lot 1 is quite spacious,

it can get full on weekend afternoons.

I arrived around 2 PM and

was lucky enough to park right away,

but cars arriving later

had to circle several times to find an empty spot.

To avoid parking stress,

it's best to visit early in the morning.

3. Yuseong-gu Daejeon Science Park Water Play Area

How to Use

The Yuseong-gu Water Play Area

operates for free.

Upon arriving at the entrance,

they'll confirm your group size, and you'll receive a wristband for entry.

There's no need for prior reservations or an admission fee,

and you can use the facilities on a first-come, first-served basis at the site.

While operating hours are from 11 AM to 5 PM,

after 45 minutes of water play each hour,

there's a 15-minute break for rest and facility inspection.

If you consider that the last water play session ends around 4:45 PM,

it makes planning your visit easy.

Since it starts at 11 AM,

there isn't a separate lunch break.

During break times,

you can grab a snack or relax in the air-conditioned cooling shelter,

and on days with scheduled performances,

you can also enjoy stage programs.

4. Yuseong-gu Daejeon Science Park Water Play Area

Water Play Facilities Layout

The Daejeon Science Park Children's Water Play Area offers

everything from large pools

to slides, obstacle courses, and interactive play equipment.

Indeed, the variety of facilities was impressive!

Toddlers could splash around in the shallow pools,

while taller elementary school kids

enjoyed the large swimming pools and thrilling water slides.

It was fantastic because kids could choose their activities based on their age and preferences!

Modular Large Pool

Depth: 70cm

Inside the water play area,

there are two modular large pools, each 70cm deep,

set up side-by-side.

The maximum capacity for simultaneous use is 30 people,

and for everyone's safety, large tubes

with a diameter of 1m or more are restricted.

A huge canopy covers the entire pool area,

which means you can play all day

and escape the strong midday sun!

On one side, a massive bucket

poured out cool water all at once.

Every time the water came crashing down,

kids rushed underneath,

shrieking with delight as they got soaked! Ha!

Water Sledding

Among the free water parks in Daejeon,

this is the ONLY place where you can experience water sledding.

And guess what? It's completely free to enjoy!

You have to carry your own tube

up the slope,

but the thrill of sliding down the long, cool slide

had the kids going again and again!

Just a little heads-up though:

the water that collects at the bottom

gets a bit warm under the hot sun. Haha!

Stepping Stone Slide

Depth: 30cm

Perfect for toddlers,

the Stepping Stone Slide is also open!

There's a small air slide in the middle,

where kids climb up the steps, slide down,

and splash right into the water.

Its low height makes it

perfectly safe and fun for even the littlest ones.

Water Jump Zone

Right next to the Stepping Stone Slide,

you'll find an inflatable air bounce set up.

Inside,

they can climb over obstacles, cross bridges,

and bounce around to their heart's content!

Naturally, this was also a hit

with the little ones!

Water Rollers

You can also hop into transparent cylinders

and roll across the water with our Water Rollers!

Since this is a facility that's not easily experienced every day,

it really captured the kids' attention!

The queue was longer than expected,

proving just how popular this attraction is!

Pedal Boats

In the shallow pool,

children's pedal boats were also available for a delightful ride.

Kids spin the pedals with their hands,

gliding slowly across the small pool.

Unsurprisingly, this was another attraction that had a bit of a wait!

The Giant Water Slide

Deep inside,

you'll spot a giant water slide

that grabs your attention from afar.

You'll need to go barefoot to enjoy this slide!

Just leave your shoes at the bottom of the stairs,

and grab them again after your exhilarating ride down.

Water Rollers

Imagine the fun with these Water Rollers!

Kids get right inside and propel themselves across the water by rolling with their feet.

At first, it might seem a bit tricky to find their balance,

but kids quickly master the art of rolling and pushing,

leading to endless laughter and fun with their friends!

Automatic Rotating Sleds

Sadly, these weren't operating

on the day we visited.

Mist Tunnel &

Water Play Area for Little Explorers

We found ourselves passing through the Mist Tunnel almost every time we moved around!

It was absolutely glorious and refreshing – a perfect way to beat the heat.

While there's also a dedicated Water Play Area for our tiniest explorers,

it seemed to be a bit quiet on the day we visited.

5. Yuseong-gu Daedeok Research Complex Water Park

Bubble Parties & Weekend Events!

Even just the water facilities themselves offered plenty of fun,

but on opening day,

they cranked up the excitement with special events just for the kids!

Throughout the day, staff members generously

sprayed cool water from hoses,

helping everyone beat the summer heat.

It was heartwarming to see kids gleefully dash into the water streams,

getting absolutely drenched and erupting in laughter,

and even parents strolling by

found themselves pleasantly misted!

And when the water cannons suddenly roared to life,

it felt like an incredibly exhilarating festival arena!

The opening day festivities also featured

a captivating magic bubble show!

Unfortunately, our timing didn't quite line up,

so we missed out on that spectacular display. ㅠ

Finding Your Perfect Shady Spot!

For those moments when you need a little break from all the splashing, there are several wonderful resting spots available. These are broadly divided into:

✔️A relaxation area to the right of the entrance,

✔️Another chill-out zone behind the main play facilities,

✔️Shady spots on the grassy area in the back,

✔️Prime lounging areas directly in front of the large pool,

✔️And comfortable umbrella-shaded spaces right next to the pool.

Plenty of options to find your perfect oasis!

Rest areas are available both in front of and behind the water play facilities,

and this particular spot is

quite close to the play facilities that are perfect for younger children,

with shallow water.

The area in front of the large pool

was ideal for keeping an eye on

elementary school-aged children, especially those in lower grades,

who mostly play in the 70cm-deep pool.

While being close to the pool offers the advantage of

easily spotting your child's movements,

it's also right next to a frequently used pathway,

and you might get splashed by water

from the play.

If you'd rather not have your belongings or picnic mat get wet,

it's better to use the parasol areas

or shaded tents nearby rather than sitting right in front of the pool.

The parasol areas next to the pool have

tables and chairs,

making them convenient for enjoying snacks or taking a quick break.

However, keep in mind that the shade from the parasols

can shift with the sun's movement throughout the day,

and they offer less shade compared to the tents.

If you're with infants or toddlers → the rest areas on the right side of the entrance or at the back are perfect.

If elementary schoolers are mostly playing in the large pool → we recommend spots in front of or next to the pool.

Can I Bring in Food?

Yes, outside food and snacks are permitted!

Many families came prepared with their own lunchboxes, fruits, and drinks,

and we even saw people picking up food deliveries at the parking lot entrance.

Food Trucks are Also Available!

There were vehicles selling ice cream, bingsu (shaved ice dessert), coffee, and other beverages,

alongside food trucks offering hotdogs, Sotteok-sotteok (skewered sausage and rice cake), takoyaki, and popcorn chicken.

8. Yuseong-gu Daedeok Research Complex Water Park:

Facilities

At the entrance of the water park, you'll find an operations office and a first-aid station,

and there are even air pumps available for inflating tubes.

During our visit, there was an icebox filled with ice,

and Yuseong-gu's 'Itssu' bottled water was being provided for free!

Next to the operations office, there's also a cool rest area equipped with air conditioning.

With its transparent glass walls,

it was perfect for taking a break from the heat

while still watching the kids play.

Separate changing rooms for men and women and basic shower facilities are also available.

You can quickly rinse off after enjoying the water,

but just a heads-up, there's no warm water,

so it's perfect for a quick refresh.

What's really special is that it offers things you rarely see at other free water parks in Daejeon,

like water sleds and various hands-on experience facilities.

If you have kids in elementary school,

you're sure to be very satisfied.

Just a tip: on weekend afternoons,

parking and waiting times for popular facilities can occur,

so if you visit a bit earlier,

you can have a more relaxed experience.

Among the four Yuseong-gu Water Playgrounds I explored,

the variety of play facilities
