The Natural History Museum, conveniently nestled within the Chungnam National University campus,
is located right at the campus main gate, so you'll have no trouble finding it,
and the entrance is clearly situated facing the Chungnam University main gate.

Yes, this charmingly small door is indeed the entrance! 😉

The Chungnam National University Natural History Museum is actually situated on the building's basement level 1,
so once you pass through the entrance and descend the stairs, you'll find yourself inside the museum.

The museum is thoughtfully divided into Exhibition Hall 1 and Exhibition Hall 2,
while not expansive, every nook and cranny is brimming with fascinating sights to explore.
Exhibition Hall 1 showcases an impressive collection of rocks, minerals, and fossils,
while Exhibition Hall 2 features diverse exhibits including insects, fish, marine algae, vascular plants, microorganisms, and birds, among others.

To enhance your visit, the Chungnam National University Natural History Museum provides an exceptional array of diverse visitor guides and educational materials.
I've explored many museums, but I honestly don't think I've encountered a place with such a diverse and comprehensive selection as this!

There were hands-on zones with mineral and seaweed stickers, a stamp tour experience, and even visitor guides to make exploring even more fun,
so the kids had a blast and really enjoyed their visit!
Exhibition Hall 1
Rock Exhibition, Mineral Exhibition, Fossil Exhibition

Farthest in from the entrance, Exhibition Hall 1 is home to the Rock, Mineral, and Fossil Exhibitions.

At the Rock Exhibition, you'll discover rocks that formed Korea's crust, dating from an incredible 3 billion years ago right up to 200 years ago, all organized by geological strata and era.
A staggering 265 specimens are on display, carefully collected from 220 locations across Southern Korea and the Baekdusan region, each representing distinct strata and rock formations.
These diverse rocks, vividly illustrating Earth's history and formation,
came with explanations that were so easy to understand, even the kids could grasp them with ease!

The Mineral Exhibition is where your eyes will truly sparkle, captivated by the breathtaking beauty of glistening minerals.
With mineral samples showcasing a dazzling array of colors and textures, it's incredibly fun to simply gaze upon them,
and with the interactive activity sheets, the kids even got to discover their birthstones, making it an easy and delightful learning experience.

At the Fossil Exhibition, you'll delve into the past, primarily through Korean fossils.
These incredible displays reveal what kinds of creatures thrived in different environments during ancient geological eras,
inviting you to ponder their rich scientific and philosophical significance.
Seeing the dinosaur fossils and traces of ancient life up close was truly magical – the kids were absolutely thrilled when they recognized their favorite dinosaurs! Haha.
Exhibition Hall 2
Insect Exhibition, Fish Exhibition, Seaweed Exhibition, Vascular Plant Exhibition, Microorganism Exhibition, Bird Exhibition

Exhibition Hall 2 brings together the Insect, Fish, Seaweed, Vascular Plant, Microorganism, and Bird Exhibitions,
offering a fantastic opportunity to explore the incredible diversity of life at a single glance!

At the Insect Exhibition, you'll get to explore the ecology and unique characteristics of insects, complete with fascinating real insect specimens.
The vibrant and stunning butterfly specimens were a particular favorite among the kids!

In the center, specimen models of various amphibians, reptiles, and more have been created using a 3D printer, looking just like real ones.
They were so incredibly similar to the real thing that both the kids and I were absolutely amazed!

The visitor's guide we picked up earlier
allows you to project it directly onto the specimens to learn their names and characteristics.
The kids absolutely loved searching for the hidden specimens, just like playing a hidden picture game! They had so much fun. Haha!

We also had fun collecting stamps placed throughout the exhibition, making the visit even more enjoyable.

The Fish Exhibition Hall introduces specimens and habitats of various fish species, offering a fascinating glimpse into the ecosystems of both oceans and rivers.

On the day of our visit, the Fish Exhibition Hall was temporarily replaced with photos due to ongoing specimen coloring work.

They said the fish would be back after getting 'prettified'~ Haha, isn't that adorable?
With each photo hung up and a yellow tag attached,
it totally gave me the vibe of a fish auction! LOL!

In the Seaweed Exhibition Hall, you can learn about the different types of seaweed that grow in the ocean and their roles, making it a great place to teach kids about the importance of the marine ecosystem.
Using the activity sheets provided, the kids were fascinated to learn about the forms of their favorite seaweed, like gim (laver) and miyeok (sea mustard).

The Vascular Plant Exhibition Hall showcases specimens of various plants, including trees and flowers, allowing us to feel truly closer to nature.

The Microorganism Exhibition Hall offers a fascinating peek into the world of microbes,
where we got to explore the invisible world of life through the humble mushroom.

At the **Bird Exhibition Hall**, you can delve into the ecology of various birds, complete with captivating specimens.
