I had the pleasure of tasting their 'Wild Mushroom & Korean Native Chicken Haesintang,' the ultimate nourishing dish perfect for gifting health to your parents!

This time, I visited with my husband and in-laws. We made a reservation in advance, so our table was already perfectly set.
It was a different setup from when we came for Samgyetang last time. Since we ordered the Haesintang (Seafood and Chicken Soup), there were also chili paste and soy sauce dips provided.
Menu & Our Order

Every dish at Onjeong Samgyetang uses a special wild mushroom broth. All side dishes are also prepared fresh in-house, and the kimchi is made daily. The dedication to quality is truly incredible!
Our family ordered the Wild Mushroom & Korean Native Chicken Haesintang (1 chicken) for ~$73.
We considered the 1.5-chicken option, but my mother-in-law and I don't eat a huge amount, so we decided on the single chicken. The 1.5-chicken option is ~$96, a difference of ~$23. If you have a typical appetite, the 1.5-chicken size would be perfect for 4-5 people.
Rejuvenating Wild Mushroom & Korean Native Chicken Haesintang (1 Chicken)

Not long after we sat down, our Wild Mushroom & Korean Native Chicken Haesintang arrived. As soon as it was placed on the table, all of us were absolutely stunned by its incredible presentation! 😮

Beneath a generous layer of chives and green onions lay a whole native chicken, topped with two fresh octopuses, clams, shrimp, and...

...five incredibly fresh abalones! 👍🤤 It was such a bountiful feast, it immediately brought to mind the Korean saying 'Yak-sik-dong-won (藥食同源),' meaning 'medicine and food share the same origin.'
Seeing the live abalone and octopus, along with all the abundant seafood, my in-laws were absolutely delighted. With the health benefits of wild mushrooms combined with fresh seafood, it truly felt like we were treating our parents to a proper body-boosting meal, and that made me feel incredibly proud! Haha.

Once the Haesintang started to boil, a staff member came over to expertly cut the octopus and help us prepare the abalone. It was so convenient to just sit back and enjoy, which my parents-in-law truly appreciated!

Oh, abalone, I'm sorry... but I'm going to enjoy you thoroughly! 😭

The broth, simmered for 10 hours with wild mushrooms and various medicinal herbs, had an extraordinary color from the start. The moment I took a spoonful, a deep, rich flavor spread through my mouth, instantly making me feel completely revitalized.

My husband isn't usually a big soup drinker, but whenever we come to Onjeong Samgyetang, he raves about how rich and delicious the broth is and drinks it all up! It must be because it's such a beneficial broth that it just calls to you... 😂

Oh, and a great tip: the broth, chives, and green onions are all refillable, so we asked for a second helping! Make sure to enjoy plenty of chives and green onions with your Haesintang – the vegetables alone are incredibly tasty! 😍
Wild Mushroom Sticky Rice

After heartily enjoying the chicken and seafood, I was incredibly full! But as a true rice lover, I couldn't skip the rice course. So, we prepared the wild mushroom sticky rice to make a savory porridge...

Just add plenty of the rich broth and simmer it over low heat, and it transforms into a delicious, thick porridge.

The rice, cooked with wild mushroom-infused water, has an incredible chewy texture. Even though I was full, I couldn't put my spoon down – it was that irresistibly delicious. I highly recommend making this wild mushroom sticky rice porridge at the end!
