Daecheongho Obaek-ri Road Course 4: En Route to the Meditation Garden
The eulalia grass stretched out so magnificently that
I just had to stop on my way to admire the view.
It's a place where you can witness a fantastic view with waves of shimmering silver eulalia grass and the expansive Daecheongho Lake,
wonderful for visiting with family, partners, or friends, and also perfect for enjoying some serene time alone.
This is Chudong Wetland Protected Area.
It's such a charming place that once you visit, you'll find yourself looking forward to autumn every year.

Chudong Wetland Protected Area is located between Daecheongho Meditation Garden and Daecheongho Nature Waterfront Park.
If you're coming from Daecheongho Nature Waterfront Park towards Daecheongho Meditation Garden,
you'll find it opposite Chudong Garaeul Village.
*Garaeul is said to be the old name for Chudong.
There is no dedicated parking area.
On the road from Daecheongho Lake Nature Waterfront Ecological Park towards the Meditation Garden,
there's a parking area (4 spots) on the right.
You can park there and walk over.
I visited on a cloudy weekday, so there weren't many people,
allowing me to park and explore quite leisurely.
However, parking can be especially difficult on sunny weekends.
Daecheongho Lake Nature Waterfront Park is nearby, so it's a great idea to park there and explore both spots together.
It requires a bit of a walk,
but with such enchanting scenery, it's definitely worth the stroll! :)
Chudong Wetland Protected Area has a relatively short walking path, making it perfect to explore along with other nearby attractions.
It would be ideal to visit it in conjunction with Daecheongho Lake Nature Waterfront Park.
Chudong Wetland Protected Area is a wetland protected area designated by the Ministry of Environment,
and it maintains its natural, untouched beauty.
While it offers different charms throughout all four seasons,
personally, the eulalia field scenery in autumn is truly picturesque.
Chudong Wetland plays a role in purifying pollutants
and provides a habitat where diverse creatures can thrive.
That's why it's often called the 'kidney of nature'.
It's home to species like buzzards, otters, tree frogs, mole crickets, and water striders,
making it a fantastic place for ecological experiences with children.
What's more, the well-maintained wooden deck paths
allow for passage with strollers or wheelchairs, making it an excellent spot for family visits.
As you walk, accompanied by the rustling sound of eulalia grass swaying in the wind,
you'll find it's a healing time that lightens both body and mind.

With their silvery-white hue and slender appearance, they look like eulalia grass. :)
Though they grow near water and could be mistaken for reeds,
eulalia grass can also inhabit watersides near wetlands, and is sometimes called 'water eulalia'.
Here in Chudong Wetland, eulalia and reeds grow together in a beautiful mix,
but it's the abundant eulalia that truly creates a fantastic silver wave for you to admire.
In autumn, the harmony of fields overflowing with silver eulalia and the clear Daecheongho Lake is truly breathtaking.
While I visited on a cloudy day and found the atmosphere even more enchanting,
on sunny days, the eulalia sparkles even more beautifully in the sunlight.
Especially, if you visit around sunset, the eulalia transforms into a golden spectacle, creating a scene straight out of a painting.
The way the eulalia sways like waves with every gust of wind is truly romantic,
making it the perfect backdrop for Instagram-worthy and emotive photos.
Even far off, towards the water intake facility at the front of Daecheongho Lake's waterway, silver waves shimmer.

The silver waves of eulalia and the shimmering light reflected on Daecheongho Lake (known as 'yunseul' in Korean) combine beautifully,
creating an even deeper and more moving experience.
Leaving the silver eulalia waves behind, if you follow the path further inward, you'll discover a viewpoint (the Hill of Wind).
I couldn't visit it on this trip, but I definitely plan to go back and explore it later.
If you have the time, I highly recommend making your way to the Hill of Wind!
This path, connected to Daecheongho Lake, offers not just the beauty of eulalia,
but also a unique natural charm as it blends seamlessly with the wetland ecosystem.
The endlessly sprawling eulalia fields truly open up your mind and spirit,
offering a brief moment of respite in nature.
📌Best Time to Visit: Autumn, when the eulalia is in full bloom – from October to early November is the most beautiful time.
But! I visited in late November, and it was still absolutely stunning!
📌Time of Day: Visiting early in the morning or around sunset allows you to enjoy an even more serene and magnificent eulalia landscape.
📌Attire: Since it's by Daecheongho Lake, the weather can get quite chilly.
Warm clothing and comfortable shoes are a must.
📌Photography Tip: To capture the sparkling eulalia as it catches the light, shooting against the light (backlighting) is best.
It's ideal to photograph it with a blue sky,
but since the eulalia in the Chudong Wetland area blooms below the deck, it looks wonderful when captured with the blue Daecheongho Lake shoreline.
While Chudong Wetland Protected Area might not be a widely famous tourist spot,
if you truly want to experience autumn, it's definitely worth a visit.
It's perfect for creating precious memories with children,
and for adults, it offers a much-needed pause in their busy daily lives.
Eulalia – an absolute must for an autumn trip!
As a serene autumn escape close to the city,
where you can witness the harmonious scenery of Daecheongho Lake's blue waters and silver eulalia,

Highly recommended!
The Chudong Wetland Protected Area does not have its own dedicated parking lot. There are 4 parking spaces available on the right side of the path when coming from Daecheongho Lakeside Natural Waterfront Ecological Park towards the Meditation Garden. You should park there and then proceed on foot. Parking might be difficult on nice weekends.
There is no admission fee for Chudong Wetland Protected Area, and there are no separate restrooms. The deck paths are well-maintained, allowing for wheelchair and stroller access, and pets are also welcome.
The Chudong Wetland Protected Area is home to a mix of eulalia (mul-eoksae) and reeds, but eulalia blooms profusely, creating the silver waves. Eulalia is characterized by its silver or white flowers and its slender, tall growth.
The most beautiful time is in autumn when eulalia is in full bloom, especially from October to early November. You can still enjoy a beautiful view in late November. Visiting early in the morning or around sunset allows you to appreciate an even more tranquil and splendid eulalia landscape.
