Chadoljib K-BBQ Seoul Review 2026: Charcoal Beef Brisket
Discover Chadoljib near Gimpo Airport, a legendary local spot serving melt-in-your-mouth charcoal-grilled beef brisket in a newly renovated retro setting.

Looking for an authentic, off-the-beaten-path Korean BBQ experience? Welcome to Chadoljib in Banghwa-dong.
Chadoljib is a legendary neighborhood favorite with decades of history, loved by local foodies in Seoul.
While most K-BBQ joints cook thin beef brisket on a flat gas griddle, this is one of the rare gems where you can grill it over a real, glowing charcoal fire!
It used to have a very rustic, old-school tavern vibe, but they recently gave the interior a sleek, modern renovation while keeping its nostalgic soul fully intact.

Chadoljib Menu & Pricing (2026)

Our Order:
Beef Rib (Galbisal) 150g: ~$14
Hanger Steak (Toshisal) 150g: ~$13
Beef Brisket (Chadolbagi) 150g: ~$12
Premium Korean Hanwoo Brisket 150g: ~$20
The beef selection features domestic Hanwoo, Australian, and US cuts.
All side dishes, including the kimchi, chili powder, and rice, are proudly locally sourced in Korea.

Since the recent interior redesign, the space is exceptionally clean, bright, and inviting.
There are plenty of 4-seater tables, but keep in mind that dinner hours bring a lively local crowd and a short wait!

The real deal: premium hardwood charcoal under a wire mesh grill.
You can tell a legendary BBQ spot by the quality of its embers!

Starting off our feast with the juicy Beef Rib (Galbisal).

The classic banchan spread:
Chili paste, raw garlic, ssamjang, sesame oil dip, fresh lettuce wraps,
spicy radish salad, seasoned green onions, cold bean sprout soup, house kimchi, and refreshing dongchimi (radish water kimchi).
Every single side dish is perfectly curated to cut through the rich, savory flavor of the beef.
Sizzle, sizzle...
The beef rib meat gets beautifully caramelized over the open flame.

💡 Pro Tip: Always start with the leaner, thicker cuts like Galbisal or Toshisal first.
If you start with the ultra-rich, fatty beef brisket, your palate will get overwhelmed, and you won't appreciate the subtle, beefy flavors of the other cuts!
Always save the thin, buttery beef brisket for the grand finale.

Next up: Hanger Steak (Toshisal)!

Toshisal is incredibly tender and lean, making it the perfect bridge between the rib meat and the brisket.
And now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for: the legendary beef brisket (Chadolbagi)!!!
It has been years since my last visit, and this melt-in-your-mouth cut is exactly what I came for.

Standard Beef Brisket (150g) for ~$12

Watch it curl up and sizzle instantly as it hits the hot charcoal grill...

Premium Korean Hanwoo Beef Brisket (150g) for ~$20
We ordered one of each to do a side-by-side taste test!
My dining partner stepped out for a moment, so I took the liberty of ordering both the imported and the premium domestic Hanwoo brisket to compare them. Best decision ever!

The plate in the foreground is the premium Hanwoo brisket, while the one in the back is the standard imported brisket.
You can immediately see the difference—the Hanwoo beef has a stunning, vibrant red color and incredibly delicate marbling.

To be completely honest, once they are grilled, they are both absolutely delicious! The charcoal renders the fat beautifully, leaving a crisp, smoky edge. Dip it in a bit of sesame oil and salt, and it’s pure heaven.
Grilling thin, fatty brisket over open charcoal can be a bit tricky because the dripping fat causes flare-ups, but thankfully my local friend did a masterful job grilling every piece to perfection.

You simply cannot leave Chadoljib without ordering their signature Soybean Paste Stew (Doenjang Jjigae).

Order a bowl of warm white rice, wrap a spoonful with a crispy piece of charcoal-grilled beef brisket... This bite alone is worth the trip.
Writing this makes me want to hop on a plane back to Seoul immediately for more brisket and tripe!

We ordered so much meat that we had a few slices left over. The ultimate local move? Snip the remaining beef directly into the boiling stew...

Throw in some fresh green chilies for a spicy kick, dump the remaining rice into the pot, and let it simmer into a thick, savory, comforting "Doenjang-bap" (soybean stew rice porridge). The perfect way to round out the meal!

My absolute favorite spot is this cozy table right by the window.
Even before the renovation when the restaurant was a rustic, smoky tavern, I always sat right here. It’s a spot filled with warm memories.

Even their beverage and beer fridge has a charming, retro aesthetic.

After paying, they hand you complimentary Yakult-style sweet yogurt drinks. A nostalgic, sweet finish to an amazing meal!
Chadoljib is a true neighborhood institution. If you want to experience authentic local Seoul dining near Gimpo Airport, do not miss this spot!
