Sensorium Canggu Review: Best Food & Insider Tips
An honest review of Sensorium in Canggu, Bali. Discover the best dishes to order, how to beat the massive wait times, and why seating choice matters.
I kicked off my latest Bali adventure in vibrant Canggu,
where I spent an amazing 3 days and 2 nights.
Today, I'm sharing my honest reviews of the top 3 most popular hotspots
that travelers absolutely rave about!
Top 3 Canggu Restaurants & Must-Try Dishes
1. Sensorium – Quesadilla & Cold Ramen
2. Smoke Bali – BBQ Pork Ribs
3. Penny Lane – Nasi Goreng
@calm__mood_

1. Sensorium
Must-Try: Bulgogi Quesadilla, Cold Ramen
📍 Sensorium
Jl. Pantai Batu Mejan, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351, Indonesia
⏱️ Mon-Sun 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
No Reservations / Walk-ins Only

Sensorium was just a 20-minute walk
from our accommodation,
so we decided to explore on foot.
The weather wasn't too hot, making it the perfect stroll
to soak in the local street vibes!
Even though we arrived at an off-peak hour around 3:00 PM,
the crowd waiting outside was huge!
Visit Time: Sunday, around 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM
We ended up waiting for well over 30 minutes.
A table freed up, but it was right by the window.
They warned us that direct sunlight would stream in,
asking if we were okay with that.
Exhausted from waiting, we said yes. But honestly...
it was not okay at all... 😅

Pro-tip for you guys:
If they offer you the window seat during peak sun hours,
just say you'll wait a bit longer...
There are no blinds here, so as the sun starts to set
in the afternoon, you get the full, direct heat.
They promised to move us as soon as an inside table opened up,
but we finished our entire meal before that happened.
So we just powered through it! Haha.

"Crispy Quesadilla + braised beef" - 120K
"Cold Ramen" - 99K
The Bulgogi Quesadilla + Cold Ramen combo
is the most recommended duo, and for good reason!
They are incredibly delicious and have crowd-pleasing flavors
that absolutely everyone will love.

You absolutely MUST add the braised beef to your quesadilla!
The Cold Ramen has a taste that feels familiar yet wonderfully unique,
and I still catch myself craving it even now! Haha.

And of course, we had to pair it with a cold Bintang! 🍺
The staff were all so sweet and welcoming.
The only real downside is the wait time...
It would be so much better if we could book in advance!
Card payments are accepted.
If I ever head back to Canggu or if any of my friends go,
Sensorium will be my number one recommendation!
2. Smoke Bali
Must-Try: Pork Ribs
📍 Smoke Bali
Echo Beach, Jl. Pantai Batu Mejan Indonesia No.69, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
⏱️ Mon-Sun 11:45 AM – 11:00 PM
✅ Highly recommend visiting at night rather than during the day
✅ You get complimentary marshmallows after dinner
to roast over the open bonfire!
✅ Reservations available via Google or WhatsApp
(Bookings open 1 month in advance)
✅ Minimum spend of 250,000 RP (~$16) per person required
➕ PRO-TIP!!
If you're celebrating a birthday or anniversary,
let them know when booking!
They'll bring out a dessert with candles and sing for you. 🎉
I'll share more details on this below :)

This is the signature view of Smoke Bali that you see everywhere!
The central bonfire is perfect for
some cozy, mesmerizing "fire-gazing."
Everyone gathers around the fire
to roast the marshmallows given after the meal.
It's the perfect spot to snap cute photos, eat, and just enjoy the vibe.

Since it's an outdoor open kitchen,
you can watch them grilling the mouthwatering BBQ ribs live!

We made our reservation through Google Maps.
You can choose between the "Indoor area" and the "Tent area."
The photo above shows the "Tent area,"
and I highly recommend the outdoor seating over the indoor tables!!
Maybe it was because we put on mosquito repellent beforehand,
but we didn't get bitten by mosquitoes at all.

"Pork Ribs" - 350,000 RP
+ mashed potato - 55,000 RP
+ Garden salad - 55,000 RP
We ordered the pork ribs with a side of mashed potatoes and
a garden salad.
The pork ribs were super tender and delicious,
but the seasoning can be a bit salty,
so pairing them with the mashed potatoes is a great idea!
The garden salad had a unique, fresh flavor
that we really enjoyed too.
Honestly, we came here right after a beach club, so we were already
quite full. We worried we might not hit the minimum spend,
but since the ribs themselves are decently priced,
you don't have to worry about that at all.
Still, ribs would be way more expensive back home,
but you can enjoy them so affordably in Bali!
You definitely have to try pork ribs at least once
during your Bali trip.

You absolutely MUST go to Smoke Bali in the evening!
The night view is gorgeous,
and it's the perfect spot to just zone out and enjoy the bonfire.

+TIP!!!
Our Bali trip happened to be during my friend's birthday week,
so I had messaged them on WhatsApp beforehand to ask
if they had any cakes on the menu.
But once the staff checked our reservation name,
they told me they would prepare a complimentary dessert for us!
The thing is, I had put down "birthday" notes
for almost every beach club and restaurant throughout our entire itinerary,
so by the time we actually got to Smoke Bali,
I completely forgot I had even mentioned it!
So, right after we finished our meal and while I was in the restroom,
the staff brought out a dessert with a candle, singing "Happy Birthday" to my friend.
Apparently, everyone else dining at Smoke Bali stood up
and cheered along too... haha!
And I missed the whole thing!
When I came back from the restroom,
my friend was just staring at me with this completely dazed expression...
I asked what happened, and they told me all about it. Haha!

It was an apple pie topped with ice cream,
and it was absolutely delicious! haha
Keep this in mind if you're visiting for a special occasion!
(Introverts, you might want to think this over carefully!)
3. Penny Lane
Recommended Menu: Nasi Goreng
📍 Penny Lane
Jl. Munduk Catu No.9, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali, Indonesia
⏱️ Mon-Sun 8:00 AM ~ 12:00 AM
✅ Walk-ins welcome for groups of 4 or fewer

Penny Lane has totally different vibes during the day versus the night,
so you can easily fit it into your schedule whenever.
It seems like most people tend to visit during the day, though.

Here is what Penny Lane looks like in the evening.
Our accommodation was less than a
5-minute walk from Penny Lane,
so we passed by it quite a few times.
Walking past it at night, the atmosphere looked incredible.
If we had stayed in Canggu a bit longer,
I definitely would have dropped by in the evening too.

"Nasi Goreng - 75,000 RP
+chicken - + 15,000 RP
"Shakshuka baked eggs" - 105,000
Honestly, early that morning,
I got hit with a bad case of Bali Belly.
I had to visit the clinic at 7:00 AM,
and this was my very first meal.
So, I ordered a safe bet like Nasi Goreng,
and since I wanted something warm, I got the Shakshuka too.
But the Nasi Goreng was the real star! haha

The Shakshuka wasn't bad,
but the Nasi Goreng was definitely the winner! haha

I ordered the coconut drink
after seeing it in someone else's review,
thinking it would be great for hydration...
but honestly, I took two sips and ended up leaving the rest behind. Haha 😅

By the time we finished our meal and were heading out,
a bunch of large groups had arrived
and the place was completely packed!

Even the restrooms at Pennylane are beautifully decorated
with those gorgeous Bali vibes.
There's a big mirror right at the entrance,
so lots of people were taking selfies there!
(Unfortunately, I was completely drained from a sudden bout of Bali belly...
so I had to skip the photos... 🥲)
My Top 3 Canggu Restaurants & Personal Ranking
If I ever return to Canggu
or if any of my friends ask for recommendations,
these are my absolute top spots:
1. Sensorium
2. Smoke Bali
3. Pennylane
This is my ultimate list!
Sensorium is universally loved—
every dish we tried was incredibly delicious
with zero misses.
Smoke Bali serves up classic BBQ ribs,
a crowd-pleasing favorite that's impossible to get wrong.
It's super affordable
and the atmosphere (especially after dark) is incredible,
making it the perfect dinner spot!
Pennylane is
actually more famous as a gorgeous photo spot
thanks to its stunning, exotic interior design.
While the food is decent but average,
it's hands-down the best spot for aesthetic travel photos!
The best part is that all three of these spots
were within easy walking distance
from our accommodation in Canggu.
Since Canggu traffic can get notoriously crazy, we didn't even bother with scooters
and just walked everywhere!
(Everything was a 5 to 20-minute stroll away)
Our hotel's location was so perfect
that we easily squeezed in all of these amazing spots,
even with our short 2-day itinerary.
You can check out my review of this perfectly located Canggu hotel
in the post below!
