Bouboude Comptoir Hongdae Review: Authentic French Dining in Seoul
Finding truly delicious French home-style cuisine in Seoul can be a challenge, but Bouboude Comptoir Hongdae exceeded all expectations. Highly recommended!

Searching for a charming spot in Yeonnam-dong for a delightful dinner with friends, I stumbled upon Bouboude Comptoir Hongdae!
This isn't just any restaurant; it's a dining bar personally run by an owner-chef with a background as a French chef, renowned for its excellent wine pairings.

You'll find it just a 5-minute walk from Hongdae Station Exit 2,
tucked away on a quiet street, one block in from the bustling Yeon-tral Park :)

The weather that day was absolutely perfect,
and we were craving a spot with a terrace vibe. Luckily, Bouboude Comptoir's windows were open, allowing us to soak in that ideal ambiance!

First off, the restaurant's atmosphere is incredibly cozy and inviting..!
The name Bouboude Comptoir caught my attention, and I wondered about its meaning.
It's a blend of 'Bubu' (Korean for 'married couple') + 'de Comptoir' (French for 'of the counter' or 'bar'), signifying a restaurant with a bar run by a married couple. How charming!

Since there were four of us, we made a reservation and were seated at a lovely inner table.

If you're on a date or just two friends, this bar seating also offers a wonderfully intimate vibe!

We initially hoped for a terrace table,
but those are primarily for 2-3 guests, so it was a slight disappointment for our group of four.🥲

Each seating area has its own unique charm, so it's a great idea to request your preferred spot when making a reservation!
Bouboude Comptoir Menu

The menu is divided into seasonal and regular offerings.
During our visit, the seasonal menu featured these three tempting dishes.
We were intrigued by the Full Moon Bubu Chicken and decided to order it! (~$21)

Since it's a one-chef operation,
they mentioned main dishes take about 30 minutes, and lighter options around 15 minutes.
It didn't feel quite that long, but it's wise to order with a bit of patience!

For special occasions like Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve, or Christmas, they also offer special course menus with wine pairings. How delightful! :)
I'd love to come back with my husband for a full course meal next time.

French Home-Style Dining Review

The appetizers were far from ordinary!
Instead of standard bread, we received a perfectly crispy baguette slice per person, topped with fragrant truffle.
The aromatic truffle combined with a generous sprinkle of Grana Padano cheese? An absolutely unbeatable combination!

Next up was the Fresh Mozzarella Salad.
With fresh greens, bell peppers, and avocado, it was a perfectly refreshing way to awaken our palates.
True to its name, it featured generous chunks of fresh mozzarella, which was incredibly satisfying!

One of the dishes I was really looking forward to: Ratatouille with Sea Bass!
Though listed as a 'simple' dish, it was anything but simple in flavor and portion!
I'm already a huge fan of ratatouille, but combining it with sea bass was a first for me, and it was absolutely delicious!
It had a lovely tomato base with a subtle hint of basil, and the freshly oven-baked eggplant and zucchini had a superb texture.

After tasting this, my friend declared, 'This is too good not to have with wine!' and promptly ordered a glass of wine..!
Her expression of pure happiness while sipping wine was priceless 🤭

Next came the Full Moon Bubu Chicken, a unanimous choice among our group of four!
The 'Full Moon Bubu Chicken' is ~$1 more expensive than the regular 'Bubu Chicken.'
When we asked about the difference, they explained that the standard Bubu Chicken features bone-in roasted chicken with raclette cheese and roasted vegetables, while the 'Full Moon' version is boneless, stuffed with various fillings, and designed for easy, flavorful bites!

Carefully slicing into the elegantly presented roasted chicken, we discovered it was stuffed with mushrooms and vegetables, and pairing it with the blueberry compote was simply divine!

Finally, our last dish arrived: Sirloin Steak with Anchovy Pasta.
This was a chef's recommendation, and it proved to be the perfect finale to our meal!
Just look at the sirloin steak – perfectly cooked to a flawless medium.
Honestly, the combination of steak and anchovy pasta felt a bit unusual at first, but surprisingly, the anchovy flavor was subtle and complemented the steak beautifully!

The dishes were served one by one, almost like a tasting menu, which allowed us to savor each creation – a thoughtful touch!
With so many appealing options, I highly recommend visiting with a group so you can sample a variety of dishes!
Every dish was incredibly satisfying, and I'm already planning my next visit to try their course menu.
It's genuinely hard to find authentic, delicious French home-style cooking in Seoul, but
Bouboude Comptoir Hongdae has earned my 100% recommendation!
