Honestly, last time I stumbled into Gobongdang and loved it, so this time, after watching a play, we just decided to wander around. We spotted a crowd at Bongsim Sikdang, and the wait didn't look too bad, so we quickly joined the Catchtable queue.
While Naver reservations are available, we hadn't planned on eating here, so we just used the Catchtable system outside. If you do reserve, make sure to keep an eye on your notifications! They only hold your spot for 5-10 minutes before moving to the next number, which I really appreciated – no waiting 40 minutes for someone who never shows up, unlike some other places.
They even have a cozy, heated waiting area, which was a thoughtful touch.
The team ahead of us arrived with just 10 seconds to spare, and since we had to wait a bit longer, the staff kindly brought us blankets, worrying we might be cold. Such a touching gesture! ✨️
Of course, it's fair for the team ahead to be seated, but I was so surprised by their sweetness... especially considering how busy they were inside! ❤️ They truly care about those waiting.
The restaurant was packed with diners, so I didn't get a chance to snap photos of the interior. It's not overly spacious, but the turnover was decent, so we got in relatively quickly. They have two-person tables, but if you're with a larger group, they can easily combine tables to create a four-person setup. So, whether you're a duo or a quartet, you can dine here without worries.
Our table was set up like this. You can order using the tablet, but if you'd like recommendations or are unsure how much to order for two people, just ask – the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful.
Additionally, each table had cute tissues, and there were baskets under the chairs for bags, which was a huge plus for me, as I often carry a large tote!
I was worried about where to put my long winter coat since the place isn't huge, but there are coat hangers on the wall, so no need to fret about that.
Bongsim Sikdang Menu Highlights
Pork Jowl and Napa Cabbage (Hangjeongsal Albbaechu)
Bongsim Sikdang is apparently famous for its Sous Vide Pork Belly Capellini, but we felt like trying something different. When we asked for a recommendation, they suggested the Pork Jowl and Napa Cabbage. The portion looked small in the picture, but it was surprisingly generous, and absolutely delicious when eaten immediately after it arrived. However, it does get a bit salty once it cools down.
While it's great with the basic sauce, I highly recommend trying it with the whole-grain mustard sauce they provide – it's a game-changer!
Ragu Tomato Fresh Pasta Lasagna
We initially wanted the Eggplant Tomato Lasagna, but it was sold out, so we opted for the Ragu Tomato Lasagna instead. And it was still fantastic! Definitely much better than a certain popular lasagna spot in Yongsan that always has a long wait – I was thoroughly satisfied.
Four-Cheese Cream Gnocchi
People rave about the gnocchi here. I had tried gnocchi and lasagna at a trendy spot in Yongnidan-gil before, but it wasn't to my taste, making me think gnocchi just wasn't for me. However, my dining companion at the time said that particular gnocchi was just not good. So, I gave it another try here, and now I understand why that other gnocchi was so disappointing. That one felt like eating dry, crumbly potatoes, but Bongsim Sikdang's gnocchi was perfectly chewy!
It was delicious when paired with the sauce they provided. Just be careful not to add too much sauce, as it can get salty.
Lemonade
A Coke was ~$2, and the lemonade was ~$3. Given the price of the Coke, I went for the lemonade, and it turns out this place is a lemonade hotspot!
They suggested two dishes would be enough for two people, but we wanted to try a variety of things. Plus, they mentioned that leftover lasagna tastes great even when taken home, so we ordered three dishes. They were all so delicious that we ended up finishing almost everything! Haha.
