How to Make a Reservation
You can make reservations for Arejjip via Instagram DM or by phone.
If you're hoping to snag one of their coveted outdoor 'ya-jang' tables, I highly recommend contacting them in advance!

Exterior / Interior
Arejjip, a seafood izakaya, is nestled right next to Gyeongui Line Forest Park, about a 6-minute walk from Hongik University Station Exit 6.
True to its name, which means 'lower house,' it's located slightly below street level, giving it a cozy and intimate feel.

You can check out the menu right at the entrance before heading in.

The interior is intimate, with about four tables, making it a perfect spot for a date night in Yeonnam-dong or a small gathering, rather than a noisy, large pub.

Menu & My Order
Arejjip's signature dishes feature incredibly fresh seafood, personally sourced and prepared daily by the owner, a former head chef from a renowned Japanese restaurant, who makes early morning trips to Noryangjin Fish Market.
You place your order directly with the owner, who was incredibly friendly and helpful when I had several questions.

My Order:
·Sashimi & Seafood Moriawase (1 person) ~$19 * 3
·Soju/Beer ~$4 * 5
Review
The outdoor seating area even has a large mirror, perfect for snapping some fun photos!

After ordering, traditional Japanese appetizers are served first. We received a soothing cabbage soup and pickled mustard greens, one serving per person.
It was great to have the comforting cabbage dish before starting on the drinks. They also provided individual servings of soy sauce and chojang (spicy vinegared gochujang sauce).

And then, the Moriawase arrived!
This is Arejjip's signature dish, allowing you to savor a variety of seasonal sashimi and seafood all on one platter.
You can also add extra servings of uni, sashimi, or other seafood, and they even provide individual packs of seaweed for wraps.

I asked about steamed squid that day, and they kindly included two whole squids in our platter. It's these thoughtful little touches that truly win you over!
The sashimi selection was abundant with seasonal delights: red sea bream, mullet, herring, sweet shrimp, whelk, and sea squirt.

The red sea bream was sliced thick, offering a chewy, savory texture that was absolutely delicious with each bite, perfectly complemented by a dab of pungent wasabi.

The steamed squid used was Japanese flying squid, which is smaller than regular squid and boasts a remarkably tender and sweet flesh. Steamed whole, it was incredibly soft, sweet, and savory – a true delight!
The rich, creamy innards were a perfect pairing for soju.

The sweet shrimp were plump and succulent;
they were so tasty, I completely forgot about the camera focus!

Mullet can sometimes have an earthy flavor that divides opinions, but at Arejjip, it was deliciously firm and clean, with no hint of that characteristic taste.

The herring was delicately scored, making it incredibly tender and smooth. A bite with wasabi was pure perfection!
The whelk and sea squirt were also wonderfully fresh and flavorful.
Try wrapping a thick slice of sashimi with the provided seaweed and a touch of wasabi – the combination is simply divine!
