Did you know blue crabs are perfectly in season right now?
I absolutely adore experiencing the changing seasons through their delicious seasonal foods.
Blue crabs, in particular, are at their peak only twice a year – in spring and autumn.
And right now, it's prime time for 'female blue crabs' – plump with roe and succulent meat, they're simply divine!
Today, I'm excited to share my honest, self-funded review of Yeonpyeong Pocha – a hidden gem of an old-school outdoor pocha in Bupyeong Kkang Market. It’s the perfect place to savor seasonal female blue crab dishes while soaking in the cool evening breeze!
If you're looking to truly immerse yourself in the authentic pocha vibe, you won't want to miss today's post.

Review
On each table, you'll find soju glasses, beer glasses, paper cups, and wooden chopsticks readily available.
Good to know: it's a self-service system here! You simply grab your soju and beer directly from the icebox outside.

The market's outdoor dining ambiance was absolutely fantastic, though I did notice a slight fishy smell from the reusable glasses, which was a minor letdown. If you're particular about cup hygiene, I recommend using the paper cups provided.
Once you've placed your order, a generous spread of complimentary side dishes arrives.
You'll get a delightful array of complimentary dishes, including Oiji Muchim (spicy pickled cucumbers), Miyeokjulgi Bokkeum (stir-fried seaweed stems), Gamja Bokkeum (stir-fried potatoes), savory pork rind, crispy Kimchijeon (kimchi pancake), and even Beondegi (steamed silkworm pupae – a unique Korean snack!).
This spread alone is enough for a refreshing glass of 'somaek' (a popular soju and beer mix) even before the main dishes arrive!

And now, for the much-anticipated star of the show: the Seasonal Spicy Blue Crab Salad!
Just one look at that vibrant red sauce is enough to make your mouth water.
Crisp shredded radish and lettuce are laid underneath.
It's generously sprinkled with savory sesame seeds and green onions.

Plastic gloves are provided, making it perfect for picking up and tearing with your hands.
It's thoughtfully pre-cut into bite-sized pieces!

Take a bite, and your mouth will be filled with the unique sweet and
moist flesh of seasonal female blue crabs, along with the spicy sauce!

If you order a bowl of rice, they also bring out kimchi,
and if you mix the crab meat and rice with the sauce, it's an unrivaled 'rice thief'!

Following the spicy blue crab salad, our second anju (drinking snack) was Spicy Stir-fried Squid and Pork (Ojingeo Jeyuk)!
As soon as it arrived, a smoky, flame-grilled aroma wafted up.

Plump, chewy squid and pork are stir-fried together,
and it's served with shredded green onions.

With every bite, the smoky flavor and pleasantly spicy sauce
create a perfect harmony.
It's such a fantastic dish to pair with drinks that the alcohol just flows!
