Quick answer
- Xi'an weather in October/November is surprisingly cold; pack warm layers like sweaters and thick outerwear.
- Boots are highly recommended for Xi'an's autumn and early winter conditions.
- The Terracotta Army is indoors, allowing for slightly lighter attire inside, but be prepared for cold outdoors.
- Consider booking a hot spring hotel, such as Angsana Xi'an Lintong, for warmth and relaxation.
- October and November are considered good travel seasons for Xi'an, provided you dress appropriately for the cold.

Who said Xi'an was warm? It's freezing!
Despite that, it's still the best season to travel there, for real,
Xi'an, China: October & November Travel Weather, What to Wear (& Review)

My mom and I traveled to Xi'an, China, around October 20th.
Up until now, all the Chinese cities I've traveled to have been
places like Shanghai, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen –
all warm regions.
(Even in spring and autumn, Shanghai, before 3 PM,
is blasted with sunshine and incredibly hot!)
'Oh, isn't China mostly warm? Won't it be warm in a taxi? Isn't it hot during the day??'
I was so overconfident saying things like this.
Even when I asked ChatGPT about Xi'an's weather, it said it wasn't as warm as Shanghai but slightly warmer than Seoul.

I even packed summer sandals in my suitcase like this,
and confidently told my mom,
'It might be hot, so pack a short-sleeved shirt!'
That's what I said.
LOL
However,

The moment we arrived at Xi'an Airport and stepped outside, there was an unusual chill.
(See the guy in the short-sleeved shirt there?
He's probably
from Harbin.
It was genuinely, truly freezing!)

This is today, but
it's similarly super cold.
⤴️Our first hotel in Xi'an offered pickup service,
which was a huge relief!

Coincidentally, just before departing for Xi'an, Korea had a brief period of
warm sunshine.
After the rain, Xi'an's weather felt even colder in comparison.
For Xi'an travel in October and November, regarding what to wear,
a thin short-sleeved shirt underneath? Absolutely NOT!
You need long sleeves with a knit sweater or a thick outer coat.
Boots are perfect for this weather.

This is a photo of my outfit on Day 2 of my Xi'an trip,
and those boots were a stroke of genius.
If you're wondering why I wore shorts,
it's because that day we were visiting Xi'an's Qin Shi Huang Terracotta Army (indoors).

But everyone else's outfit in front of the Terracotta Army in Xi'an, except mine,
was like this.

Honestly, in Guangzhou, China, during October and November,
wearing boots was so hot I was sweating.
But Xi'an, where the Terracotta Army is,
really has boot-perfect weather for your outfits!

This is a travel photo from Xi'an in October,
and with that guy in the short-sleeve shirt, does it look like warm autumn weather to you?
Not at all. Meiyou 没有 (No).
You could honestly even wear a light puffer jacket.

Seriously, traveling to Xi'an in October,
the outfits I packed were short-sleeved tops and light dresses.
About half of them I didn't even get to wear and brought them back just as they were.

Surprisingly, in Xi'an, China,
there's a lot of walking around and exploring the city center, places like Datang Everbright City or the Bell Tower.

And if you climb up walls like these in Xi'an's city center,
it gets even colder when the wind blows.

Nevertheless, stubbornly on the Xi'an city wall,
I, alone, took off my jacket and wore a tank top and a linen skirt with holes,
snapping a picture.
A resilient October autumn traveler from Korea.
So, after traveling to Xi'an during what's supposedly the best season to visit,
September, October, and November, and shivering from the cold,
I was trembling with cold.
⤴️Right here... in Xi'an, China,
at that legendary Tang Dynasty site where Imperial Consort Yang bathed,
with its hot spring water,
I checked into the 5-star hot spring hotel, Angsana Xi'an Hotel.

We
at the Angsana Xi'an Hotel,
booked a room that even had a private hot spring (and a sauna) within the room.
Honestly, as soon as we opened the door and stepped inside, it was incredibly warm and cozy.
The hot spring water was so crystal clear, and the garden was simply magnificent!
Pure heaven!

And while you're enjoying your hotel room,
you can also access the public hot springs within the Angsana Xi'an Hotel,
which are also available for use.
And let me tell you, this spot is renowned as one of Xi'an's most famous hot springs!
Seriously, it was amazing!
Oh, a quick heads-up: you'll need a swimsuit for the public hot springs.
(But for the private hot spring in your Angsana Xi'an room, you can go in au natural
if you prefer! 🐟❔)
Anyway, here's the takeaway: Xi'an, China, being inland, isn't as balmy as Shanghai...
So, if you're planning a trip to Xi'an in September, October, or November,
think 'Korean autumn weather' when packing your outfits.
It's chillier than you might anticipate, and a hot spring hotel is an absolute lifesaver (or rather, a blissful retreat!)
(And honestly, compared to Japan, the price, the service, the location... it all just *chef's kiss*!)

Finally, here are some outfit examples for your Xi'an trip in October and November...
Of course, for November, you might want to pack something a bit warmer, like a light padded jacket.
